Olivia
My shift was already over. I changed my clothes and as promised, I accompanied John to go around the school. Along our way, people were looking at us especially girls. They were looking at John all the time.
I had to say that John was attractive. He was handsome with his dirty blond hair and a stunning pair of blue eyes. And actually…he was very nice. Ever since I came to know him, John was so kind to me even assuring that Blake was not that bad but I always refused to listen to anything about Blake from him.
“There are lots of people today,” John commented.
“I think because today is the first day.”
“Is the school going to invite a celebrity over?”
“Well, the committee voted for Maroon 5 but the headmaster turned it down.” John laughed at it. No wondered at all.
“Even the headmaster knew the cost of inviting the band over.”
“Well, they tried. Even by negotiated if they could at least invite Adam Levine alone but he still said no.”
“The committee should be thinking about the budget too,” he sarcastically said. I had to agree with him.
We reached Josh’s class. Karen told me before that his class would be doing a chemistry challenge. I wondered how it would turn out to be.
“Olivia!” Josh called and he ran to me. When his eyes turned to John, “Oh, hi, John. Long time no see,” he greeted him as well and both of them shook hands. Different than Blake, John was nice to Josh. Probably because their names sounded rather the same. “Come on in. Let’s try the challenge,” he invited and we both stepped in.
“What’s the challenge about?” John asked and we stood in front of the table. On top of it, there were two bottles. More like potions, I guessed.
“So, the challenge is about two different potions and you guys have to choose which fits what,” Josh started to explain and he gave us a small flask. “Now you two have the ingredient, you have to choose which bottle fits the ingredient to what you have. If you pour into a wrong bottle, the potion will explode.”
“What? Isn’t that dangerous?” I asked.
“No, Liv. It’s not going to explode and burn the building down. I’m just kidding.”
“So, what happened if we give the wrong ingredient?”
“It won’t change color. That’s it.” Well, at least we could feel a little relieved with that. “If you poured it into the correct one, you will get a prize.”
“What’s the prize?” John asked. Josh pointed to the souvenirs near the table. “Interesting. I want to try it.”
“Great. Here are the instruction and you have to guess which one is the correct one.” John grabbed the paper and read it carefully. After he finished reading it, he put the paper on the table and looked at the two bottles in front of him. He poured the liquid from his flask into the left bottle.
Within one minute, it changed color without any explosion or what so ever.
“Good job, John. I suspect you will be able to guess which one,” Josh complimented. Well, I had to admit it as well. John definitely got the brain. A handsome face with a smart brain, what a great combination. “So, what would it be?” he asked about the prize.
John was looking at the prizes and then turned to me. “What do you want, Liv?” Huh?
“Whoa, hold on a minute. It’s your prize and you have to choose it for yourself, not for me.”
“I insist, Olivia. Come on, what do you want?” he demanded. I walked to where the prizes were. There was a tumbler, keychain, a notebook, and then I saw a pouch. A brown pouch and it looked good as well. More like for a man’s taste and if I remembered about it again.
Blake didn’t have one. Well, it was not Armani but I thought Blake wouldn’t mind.
“I’ll take the pouch.” Josh took the pouch and handed it to me.
“Thank you so much, both of you.”
“Is the challenge only that?” John asked mockingly.
“Of course not. Every guest has a different challenge. Yours, by coincidence, was the easiest one,” Josh explained.
“That figures.”
“Anyways, is Mr. Morgan going to come?”
“Yes, he will. But on the last day. He had a business partner coming all the way from India so suddenly and he couldn’t leave his guest alone,” John explained.
“Ooh, what a bummer. Well, at least he’s still coming. And you came too in his stead to pleases Olivia,” he said while looking at me. “Well, I have to get back there again. I’ll see you guys later,” Josh parted with us and went back to his class.
John and I continued again until we stopped by to buy a drink. John bought a coffee for him and a Caramel Latte for me. “Do you enjoy yourself?”
“Yes. I missed the school days,” he said while drinking his coffee.
“What kind of student are you?” I asked curiously.
“Well, I was not a good student.”
“Really? What happened?” John was silent for a moment. It made me think if I just asked something terrible for him. “Um, if you don’t want to talk about it—”
“No, it’s fine, Olivia. I was…still a brat back there. I was captured by the authorities and being put into rehab. We were having have fun but I never thought of its consequences. Free sex and all of that. Doing drugs. The worse things people could do.” Wow, I didn’t expect that. I couldn’t imagine the bad boy version of John. Because right now…
He looked so proper. Not until he opened his mouth.
“How was your parents’ reaction when they found out?”
“Mad. When I saw my mother broke down in tears, I wanted to leave all of this and do something better with my life. So, after I got out of rehab, I continued school but I had to hold back another year but I graduate successfully and went to college, graduated in four years by taking a business major. I was working really hard to improve my skill and then…Blake noticed my ability.”
“What did he do?”
“He offered me, a newbie, a job. To be his secretary. Although at first, I wanted to refuse because I was just graduated and didn’t have a lot of experience. After I was graduated, I got a job but only as administrative staff. At that time, I didn’t know what Blake saw from me. He was like the big boss of the company and what did he want from me? When I asked him that, he only said that he believed in my ability.”
“And what did you in the end?” John was looking outside the window first before he finally turned to me.
“I accept it.”
I could see from John’s eyes that he was so grateful that he didn’t turn down Blake’s offer. Although I rarely seeing them together, I could see both of them trusted each other. So much.
“I’m really glad that you accepted it.”
“Yeah. It was tough at first but I never regretted being his secretary. I learned a lot and my parents even called me stupid if I dared to rejected his offer that day.”
“Well, I have to agree with that. You know how hard people want to work in his company.”
“And his pay was amazing and it’s enough for me to live by myself. So, Olivia?” John paused and was looking at me. “Even though your father was so hard on others, he always respects them. Just do a great job and he will be happy unless he sees no potential from them.”
“Don’t you think that was rather…harsh? Maybe they haven’t done good enough.” John smirked at my statement.
“Working life is different, little one. If Blake saw his staff were doing their job half-heartedly, he would fire them immediately.”
“He would? Have you ever saw him firing people in front of you?” John chuckled. Okay, maybe I already got the answer. I knew Blake was hard and he was like the true definition of a devil boss.
“It’s my everyday meal. At least five people got their asses kicked out in two weeks. I have to tell you something, sometimes people who came to work for him joined the company, not because of their passion or they needed the money, they came for him. Wanting his attention, especially the ladies.”
That was such a stupid move.
They were working because they wanted some attention from Blake, their big boss. Not because they wanted him to recognize them for their potential but it was something more. Possibly they wanted to be his mistress. Anything so they could stay by his side.
Unfortunately, my father was an asshole.
But I was curious about one thing.
“Can he see it? Just like you could see my classmate’s intention on hitting you?”
“Of course, he could. He taught me how to see deep into their soul of what they truly wanted.”
“And what did you see from my classmate when she was trying to getting your attention?”
“You…don’t want to know, Liv,” he avoided.
“What? Tell me, I’m not a kid anymore.” John stared his blue eyes at me. Looking at me like he wanted to make sure that I was ready for his answer.
John moved forward so close to my ear and then he whispered, “She wished me to fuck her hard like a slut she is.” My heart immediately jumped and I could tell my cheeks were warm. John pulled himself from me and I nervously stared at him. “It’s too much for you, right?” he chuckled and I slapped his elbow.
“Damn you!” And he laughed hard. He laughed his ass off. “You are such a pervert.”
“Your father is much worse.” His statement only made me remember Blake’s words back at our lunch in the steak restaurant.
Blake was uncomfortable for having the waitress staring at him and he said that he preferred me to look at him.
I preferred to be looked at by you.
And how he wanted to punish me when I didn’t want to make his dinner.
How about if I eat you instead?
Also…his kiss at our first fight.
“Olivia? What’s wrong?” John’s voice broke my thoughts.
“It’s nothing. But, hey? You can’t say that to your Boss. You just insulted him.”
“Well, that’s who he is.”
“How could you say that?”
John sighed before he replied, “I can’t answer that. It’s his personal life and it’s better if you asked him yourself.”
“What?” John walked past me and threw his cup into the bin. I finished my drink too and followed him.
He made me curious and I surely hope…John was joking.
