Mara’s POV
“That is all for now. If there is anything that I would like to add then I will tell you while we continue the journey so far,
Do you have any questions?” Keren asked me after she was done giving me so many instructions that I wondered if I was supposed to be writing them down so I wouldn’t forget anything.
“But you said that I shouldn’t ask you any questions” I looked at her with my confused eyes.
“I didn’t say that, I only said you shouldn’t ask me many questions and the questions I’m requesting you to ask right now are the ones that concern the instructions that I have given you.
Is there anything that needs to be clarified?” She asked again and I nodded my head sideways as a way of telling her no and she started the car.
It was a very quiet drive to wherever she was taking me but the silence was soon broken by the sound of cars, horning impatient drivers who were also caught in the traffic with us at the highway.
I looked out the window to see the world from another perspective, I wonder why they were complaining about the traffic? Were they in such a hurry or was it that they were going to save a life?
Wouldn’t the world be a better place if everyone was as calm as Keren and as unshaken by every little thing like her.
“What are you thinking about?” Keren asked as she looked at me from the mirror that was just above her head inside the car.
“Nothing, I am just trying to remember all the instructions you had given me earlier. I don’t want to forget anything so I don’t make a mistake” I lied.
“Don’t worry, you are very smart. This would just be like a breeze, trust me” she tried to give me some kind of courage and it somehow worked, I guess.
Finally, having stayed for a spot for twenty minutes, the car was moving again and the traffic seemed to be clearing up as other cars were moving as well until we got to a spot not too far ahead where I noticed that cars stopped for some minutes before they began their journey again.
I stretched my neck out the window to look further only to discover that there were police officers up ahead who were conducting a stop and search.
“It’s time,” Keren reminded me as she drove further and got to the spot.
“Good day ma’am, please step down from your car so we can check the boot.
Thank you” the officer gave Keren a smirk as she came down from the vehicle in order to open the boot but the officer found nothing in it and she was about to drive off when another officer came.
“You look familiar?” He pointed at me and I was confused at first but remembered that he was the same officer that was chasing after me when I stole that purse from the lady, the day I met Keren.
“Who is she to you?” The office asked Keren, with his eyes still glued on me.
“She works for me, I hope there Is no problem?” Keren was so cool and composed.
Maybe she didn’t recognize him. That’s why she didn’t panic, unlike me, that my heart was about to jump out of my chest.
“No but..” the officer paused for a second and when he turned to face Keren while he was talking to her, I snuck the backpack under the front seat of the car.
“Ahh! My tummy hurts please take me to the hospital now before I miss my appointment” I clutched onto my stomach as I yelped in pain.
Keren looked at me and I could only hope she would understand what I was trying to do.
“If that is all, officers then I’ll have to take her to the hospital. She is having really bad side effects from some drugs she had taken.
I need to get her to the hospital quickly so that she can meet up with her appointment with the doctor” Keren was so calm and she sounded so believable with her lie. Damn! She sure knew how to tell a smooth lie.
“It’s okay ma’am, you are free to go” the officer smiled at us as Keren got into the car and zoomed off.
“I never knew you could put on such a good act” Keren had a smirk on her face, she looked very happy but I wasn’t. I just told a lie and I felt bad about it.
“And I never knew you could be so calm when you lied. I think I should be more scared of you now” I scoffed and Keren could only smile at my behavior.
“Why are you smiling so much?” I raised an eyebrow and folded my hands on my chest as I waited for her response.
“I am smiling because you were smart and it makes me very happy to see that I didn’t make a mistake giving you this job.
If you can continue to be like this then trust me you life will surely change for the best” Keren was so happy.
“I hope so too” I concurred with her and we soon arrived at the restaurant where I was supposed to make the delivery.
She parked the car and I checked if anyone was coming , when I was sure there was no one I opened the door of the car and went inside the restaurant to sit at table number 7 with the backpack as Keren had instructed me earlier I pretended to be browsing through my phone as I waited for the lady to arrive so I can give her the item.
The lady came and also ordered some food, she was so pretty and she smelled so nice.
I wonder if this business Keren was into came with a beautification certificate or something because all the ladies I have delivered to so far looked damn hot and I didn’t even want to talk about how Keren always looked so good.
Even at night when I had called her during the emergency, she still looked very expensive. Well, maybe that is the life the rich get to enjoy.
