Sofia’s pov
The coldness of the smoothie glass against my hands were honestly greatly welcomed and as I listened to the familiar, pleasant sound of Zander bursting into laughter, I found myself relaxing further into my seat.
It’s been about a week since I saw him for the first time on that particular night, and a few days since I had encounter those dumb boys who had thought it nice and humorous to mess with me.
With the help of Luca, I had been able to recover from that incident way faster than I expected. Luca informed me that he dealt with those guys further and made sure they got what they deserved, and as he spoke to me, I tried not to feel any kind of pity for those guys, because they honestly had it coming from themselves since they moment one of them grabbed my butt.
I let out a small sound on realizing that Zander was speaking to me once again.
“Were you saying something?” I asked while regarding Zander with curious eyes.
We had both decided to meet up with each other over the phone last night, it didn’t take us long to settle on where we’d meet. Luca hasn’t been pleased that I wanted to meet up with Zander but I made sure to remind him that Zander is just a childhood friend and nothing more.
After that incident that happened to me at the mall, Luca had warned my guards to make sure to protect me more properly next time; which is why I can currently feel Ryan’s eyes on our table right now, and he wasn’t even trying to hide the cold look on his face or the fact that he’s currently watching our table, like Ethan would have done.
Zander didn’t have a problem with that because since he knows who my husband is, then he had definitely expected something like this before we met up today.
“I was complimenting you, I said you looked really pretty today.” He breathed out and I felt taken aback a little because that wasn’t what I had expected him to say. It took a few moments for a small smile to tug at the sides of my lips as I made to respond.
“Oh, thank you! You look really good as well.”
“Oh, I know. I always looked good since I was a baby.” He responded on a corky, teasing tone, reminding me so much of Armani in that moment and at once, a laugh poured out from my lungs as I rolled my eyes.
I took a small sip of my drink before leaning forwsrd a little.
“So, anyone in your life right now?” I asked after a few moments. Zander stared at me for a few fleeting moments before letting out a small snort.
“What? Of course not!” He responded.
“Why do you sound like that? What’s bad in having someone in your life?” I demanded at once.
“Oh no, I didn’t mean it like that. Of course there’s nothing bad about that, it’s just that for now, I’m only focusing on work and nothing more, that’s why.” He explained and I found myself nodding my head slowly.
“Oh, I get you now.”
“And besides, I don’t think I have a say in that, I believe a wife has already gotten picked out for me as we speak.” He responded and at once, I got reminded of the fact that Zander is a part of the mafia’s beliefs through and through.
“Oh, that’s true, I forgot about that for a second.” I confessed with a small, apologetic laugh. Zander didn’t look fazed or offended as he waved me off at once.
“That’s okay, it’s something I grew up knowing since I could remember.” He explained and I let out a small hum while nodding my head.
“Why did you suddenly show up though?” I asked after about a minute. “Don’t get me wrong, you have a right to show up here whenever you want, it’s just that, you were away for over a decade, and now you showed up all of a sudden.” I explained while taking another sip of my drink,
“Oh, that. I thought I mentioned the reason to you before. It’s because I’ve taken over this branch of my father’s mafia. You know it’s been silent for over a decade.” He paused for a moment.
“After I passed all my tests, I was given my first ever project last year, which I succeeded in six months. This is my second project, to revive this mafia and get it running strongly.”
He ran his fingers through his hair as he let out a bashful laugh. “Obviously, I know that’s not gonna be an easy feat at all seeing as there a a bunch of other mafias which are all currently functioning now, which means I have my work cut out for me.”
I nodded my head once he was done speaking. “I’m rooting for you.” I offered, not knowing what else to say. Silently, I hoped he wouldn’t end up losing his life while trying to get to the top because flourishing here in the mafia world isn’t an easy feat at all.
“Anyways, enough about all that. So, I was wondering if you knew about the fact that I’ve always had a crush on you?” As he spoke, I had been taking a sip of my drink, and as soon as those words were out, the drink went up a wrong pipe at once.
A laugh bubbled out of him as he demanded moments later. “Wait, you had no idea?”
As I poundered on what he had just said, I ended up admitting that even though I was just friends with him back then, didn’t mean I didn’t look forward to meeting him at school daily just so we could hold hands desecretly.
I gave a shake of my head once my coughing fit slowed down. “No, I didn’t.”
“Although, now that you’ve mentioned it, I guess I liked you more than friends were supposed to back then. Isn’t that insane?”
