James’ pov
“Hm, you sound kind of obsessed.” She breathed out with a small giggle and I rolled my eyes, feeling my chest well up with so many emotions at once as I pulled her forward until her head was resting on my shoulder, and my arm around her waist.
I breathed in a deep breath before speaking softly.
“Yeah, perhaps you’re right, maybe I really am obsessed.”
Blake giggled once again, moving against me in a way that made my blood stir.
“You don’t sound sure.” She pointed out and I pulled her away from the embrace until she was staring into my face once again.
“I am obsessed.” I murmured, all traces of unseriousness wiped off my face. She blinked a few times before reaching out and wrapping her palm against my cheeks.
“Well, that makes two of us,” She declared with a small eyeroll and I let out a fond huff as I pulled her into my arms once again, rolling around until we rolled off the couch to the ground.
“You’re heavy.” She whined and shoved me off her with a fake scowl, and I only snorted while feeling weirdly fulfilled to the fullest brim. After a few moments had passed, I rose into a sitting position and contemplated on what it was that I was about to say next.
“Blair,” I called out, watching as she whipped her head around to stare at me, hair bouncing around her shoulders. At that moment, I tried to imagine her with really long hair, but couldn’t end up coming up with an image that I actually liked.
“Did you call me just to stare at my face?” She huffed out and I rolled my eyes as I pushed off the ground completely.
“What if I did?” I demanded and she smirked. “That makes you down bad, obviously.”
“Well, I am down bad.” I informed her, in case she was yet to figure that out on her own.
“I know, that’s pretty obvious.” She snickered and I snorted once again before holding out a hand out for her.
“Anyways, get your ass up. I wanna take you out on a proper date. Like a first date thingy.”
Blair didn’t instantly take my hand, not like I had expected her to. Other girls would have accepted my hand in an instant at that moment, but Blair had kept on proving times without numbers that she wasn’t a far cry from other girls.
She’s the fire that matches mine so damn perfectly, energy for energy, leaving no moment dry, uneventful or uninteresting. I loved that so much about her, cause it made my blood boil in such a way that no one has been able to achieve.
Blair threw her head back and rolled her eyes, right before she spoke.
“Aren’t you going to ask me romantically?!”

Tonight’s dinner is the first dinner we’d both be attending after the night where we had gone out and she had come across the news of her grandmother being dead. That little detail was hanging in their air, but neither of us was clearly choosing to address it just yet.
The car ride to the restaurant was quiet and pleasant and I loved every second of it. Blair softly humming to the songs playing from the radio was the extra toppings that I needed at night. Her voice is so damn perfect, raspy in the part where it needed to, and I loved that so much about her voice.
I refused to comment on it because I knew that could make her cease singing automatically, and that it could also cause her trauma, something which I’m trying to be super careful about.
On arriving at the restaurant, Blair and I walked in together, with my eyes falling on the flare of her ass as she walked ahead of me. She’s so damn gorgeous, and this time, after kw far we’ve come, I didn’t hesitate to compliment her, knowing damn well that I meant every word.
She accepted the complements tonight without throwing a tantrum, which made me conclude once again that yes, we’ve indeed come a really long way.
After we ordered, we began to eat. The setting of the corner I had picked was a darker and intimate part of the restaurant, which made the dim light atop the table illuminate Blair’s face so damn beautifully, and I didn’t hesitate to tell her just that, enjoying how a little blush filled up her cheeks as she averted her gaze from mine.
We began to eat, the conversation between us flowing so wel. It was such a stark difference from how oir first dinners used to be. Those times, Blair had refused to talk about anything most of the time at those dinners, but now, everything was obviously different about it, and I loved that so much for the both of us.
Although, I hadn’t expected what she blurted out next.
“When did you plan on letting me know that you’re in the mafia? And not just a billionaire working as an assistant ceo.” Her voice was sort as she spoke and one of her eyebrows arched.
I coughed a little and averted my gaze for a moment while cursing my luck beneath my breath.
The look on her face right now is one of someone who is a hundred percent sure of what she’s saying, which made me instantly dismiss the thought of attempting to try to lie my way out of this current situation.
“You see…” I began to speak as I dropped my cutleries. Blair let out a low hum as she spoke.
“Please don’t lie about this.” She warned, making me trail off at first, even though I had already promised myself to tell the truth.
“I wasn’t going to lie, Blair. And for your question about me being in the mafia…”
“I really cannot believe you passionately confessed to liking me and not wanting me to ever leave you, and yet, you still continued to keep me in the dark about this part of your life.” Her voice was low as she spoke, but every word echoed really loudly in my ear.
“Blair…” I began to speak but she shook her head firmly.
“Was it because you couldn’t trust me?
