Blair’s pov
When James finally came down for dinner, he was dressed in a tank top that made my mouth water as I stared at him, eyes zeroing in on his bulging biceps. He was so damn hot, it’s definitely illegal to be this good looking. His hair was dark and curly, and his eyes were a cute brown. He had the face of a runway model and I knew so many modeling brands would kill to have him walk the runway for them.
When he sank into the dining seat, he flashed me a grin, eyes zeroing in on the food before moving back to my face.
“Looks so damn tasty.” He breathed out, a small smile tugging at the side of his lips, prompting me into rolling my eyes as I began to scope some food on my plate.
“I wasn’t the one who prepared them, and it’s not something you haven’t had before.” I pointed out.
“I wasn’t talking about the damn food.” His response came almost immediately, catching me off guard and making my heartbeat stutter dangerously before I focused my gaze on him, noticing that he was grinning right now.
His eyes lowered in that moment, zeroing in on my chest, and I knew he was getting an eyeful of the small part of my clevage that was showing from the thin spaghetti top I currently had on. I had a shirt over it before but had decided to discard it while setting up the table.
Determined to not appear flustered, I clicked my tongue a little before tilting my head to the side.
“You done?” The question came out like I had hoped– airy and nonchalant, meanwhile my insides is currently on fire.
“No, I haven’t even started.” He responded on a low huff, eyes darting between my chest and my face as he spoke, making me roll my eyes once again, choosing not to respond as I began to eat my dinner.
As we are, we talked about a whole lot of things. That’s the thing about James. He was a very lively person, and without him being there for me when I had been mourning, I knew there was no way I’d have been able to recover this fast.
Not that I was already fully recovered, but at least I do not break down anymore.
After some time, when we were both done with dinner, I decided to bring up something.
“Why haven’t you tried to prod more details about my identity and past?” I asked, watching as James’ eyebrows slowly drew towards each other as he stared at me. He remained silent after that, and when it didn’t seem like he was going to say something, I decided to continue.
“Because, I know you’ve definitely attempted to look me up. I just know it, don’t ask me how.”
James let out a small laugh this time, and then he shook his head a little. He leaned forward before starting to speak,
“You’re right, I am curious, and I believe that’s only natural.”
“Yes, of course.” I responded.
When he didn’t say anything else, I dragged in a deep breath and puffed it out slowly, and then I began to speak once again.
“Will I stay here with you forever?”
That made him blink a little. I shifted a little in my seat while waiting for his response.
James let out a low sigh this time. “Don’t think about that yet, okay?” He responded, and I flared up, not liking his response one bit.
“What do you mean by this response? Are you encouraging me to live in a bubble? To live a day at a time? Cause that’s bullshit.” I pointed out.
When he still didn’t respond, I let out a sigh and pushed out of my seat, taking my plates to the kitchen next.
When I got back to the sitting room, James had his hand over his eyes for a few moments.
“Let’s just drop it, okay Blair? We can definitely think about this later, but not for now at least.” He breathed out and I scowled at him.
“Did I bring it up again? I already dropped it, you’re the one bringing it up this time.” I reminded him, hands wrapped around my middle.
James sighed deeply and got to his feet. “C’mon Blair, let’s not do this now.”
“It’s almost a month now. I’m definitely already sacked in my old workplace. I’ll have to go search for another job as soon as possible because I have to start saving up. My landlord has definitely thrown the little things I have out of the house because my rent has long expired, and I need to start working so I can start saving up for rent.” As I spoke, so did the look on James’ face get darker.
“What are you talking about? Who said anything about you working?” He demanded and I bristled.
“I did. Isn’t it obvious? This thing right here isn’t real. Sooner or later, I’m going to get put in the streets once again.” I informed him, noticing a look of hurt on his face the next moment.
“Don’t talk like that, Blair.” He murmured, walking around the table this time.
“But, it’s the truth, everyone ends up leaving me in the end.”
“I’m not everyone, I definitely wouldn’t leave you, Blair.” He breathed out as he drew closer to me but I refused to acknowledge him, lips pursed and mouth thinned.
“Even if you don’t, this thing between us would come to an end one day, then I’d be left with nothing but a broken heart and debts.”
“Fuck the debts, and you wouldn’t be left with a brokenheart, Blair.” He reassured me, inching even closer to me.
“You know I can’t live with you forever like this. One day, you’re going to get bored, then you’d throw me out and replace me with some bitch, and I’d still have a long list of debts to repay.”
“Stop mentioning the fucking debts!”
“Why?! Why the fuck not? I’m the one who has to be worried about that every damn time and not you.” I snapped out, feeling exasperated.
“Look, sooner or later, y- you’d get bored, or you’d want to settle down and start up a family. Then what? You’d make me your side p- piece? Or-”
My voice was loud and a little shaky with different emotions as I spoke, right before I got abruptly silenced by James suddenly tugging me against his hard chest to seal my mouth with a hard kiss that made my head spinned.
