Alexander’s POV
“Be careful, your moron!” Angelica’s screeching voice filled the hallway. “Those things cost more than your yearly allowance!” She growled.
“Sorry, Angelica,” the she-wolf assisting her apologized.
“It’s Luna’s for you!” She snapped.
“Yes, yes, yes, ma’am,” the she-wolf replied, ignoring the use of the title.
I have instructed the pack not to call Angelica Luna until the actual ceremony. The pack was obviously delighted by that idea.
“Seems like the wannabe Luna is moving in today,” Luke sneered, peeking his head out of the office to observe the action down the hall.
“Yeah,” I replied, feeling nauseous to the pit of my stomach. “Seems so.”
Angelica had been threatening to move into the pack house for two days, but to her disappointment and my relief, the unforeseen weather had prevented her from doing so.
“You seem very excited about that fact,” Luke teased.
“Mm,” I said dryly, and I lifted my hands in the air in a mocking gesture. “You can hear the excitement in my voice. Yeah!”
Luke chuckled and got closer.
“And see the excitement on your face!” Luke laughed.
“Hmf!” I huffed and turned back to the report I was reading.
Luke came closer and took a seat at the desk. I lifted my gaze, seeing his golden eyes glittering out of mischief.
“Oh, Goddess,” I internally growled. “What was he up to now?”
Luke’s smile widened, and he wiggled his eyebrows.
“What?” I snapped. “What did you do that would get me in trouble?”
“N-o-t-h-ing….”
I narrowed my eyes and glared at him. I knew Luke too well to know when he was lying.
“Luke…” I warned him.
“Okay, okay, I’ll tell you,” he said, shifting his body closer to the desk. “I made sure to give your new Luna the best room in the pack house.”
But before I could ask what he meant, the office door flew open and crashed against the walls.
“Seriously!” Ghost growled when Angelica’s scent invaded my office. “What the f*ck does she want now!”
Yet before I could ask, her voice rang in my ears, and she was huffing and puffing like a bull ready to storm.
“What’s the meaning of this?!” Angelica roared as she stormed into my office.
Luke bit his bottom lip, trying hard to hold his composure and not burst out laughing, and I suspected he had something to do with Angelica’s sudden outburst.
“Pardon me?” I said, my face turning hard and cold. “What are you going on about?”
“My room!” She shouted. “How dare you!”
“How dare me, what?” I snapped, jumping to my feet.
My gaze met Luke’s and I narrowed my eyes at him.
I was burning to know what he had done.
“It is way too tiny!” She yelled out in frustration. “Not even a mouse can live in that room. How dare you give me a low-omega room? I can’t even fit a fifth of my stuff in there!”
“Maybe you shouldn’t have brought so much,” Ghost huffed from the back of my mind. “You won’t be staying long!”
“That is the only place presently available,” Luke said, keeping his face straight, but I could see the little golden devils dancing in his eyes.
“I demand an upgrade!” Angelica yelled, stomping her feet like a two-year-old. “I am the future Luna of this pack! I have the right to live in a high-ranking room, not that thing looking like a closet.”
“It is only for the time being,” I said. “Just until…”
“Move one of the omegas into that room,” Angelica snapped, cutting me off.
“Rude!” Ghost yapped. “If she is so unhappy, why doesn’t she return to her pack?”
“I can’t do that,” Luke said, turning his body to look back at her. He had interwoven his fingers to try and keep them still in his lap. “All rooms are assigned. Moving someone would take days, weeks, maybe even months. It requires a lot of paperwork, counseling, permission, and even reasoning.”
Luke was lying through his teeth as he counted down the reasons on his fingers.
“Then I want your beta quarters.” She gestured to Luke. “You are never home, and I would have enough room for my stuff!”
The look on Luke’s face was priceless, yet he recovered quickly and started throwing reasons at Angelica as to why it wasn’t suitable for her.
“Mine?” He asked. “I don’t think you would like to live there. It is way too hot and humid in there.”
“Too much sun,” I added. “Think of what it would do to your hair; it will go frizzy and dry.”
“And your skin!” Luke added. “You would peel like a banana in there.”
I almost burst out laughing and gave the game away.
“Then I demand I stay with you!” Angelica said, raising her chin to look me in the eyes.
Was she bloody serious?
I would never let her get close to me!
“Can’t do,” Luke came to my aid. “You two are not marked and mated yet. You will have to wait for the Lunar Ceremony!”
Which will never happen if I get my way, I wanted to add.
“It’s pack rules,” Luke continued, looking my way and gesturing to the files on the shelf. “If you don’t believe me, you are welcome to read through those files on Pack Policies and Procedures.”
Angelica shrieked and stomped her foot on the floor. She was frustrated and angry, and it seemed like we might have won this round.
“If you are not happy with the room,” Luke said, eyeing me. “You are always welcome to live in the Alpha Cabin in the woods.”
“What the f*ck, Luke!” I growled over the link. “That’s my hiding spot!”
“I know,” he linked. “But at least she will be out of the pack house for two weeks.”
“Just keep in mind that the Alpha Cabin has bugs,” I said. Angelica wasn’t too fond of bugs. How she managed to pass Alpha Camp was still a mystery to me. We used to camp outdoors a lot.
“Big bugs,” Luke added seriously.
“How big?” Angelica asked, wide-eyed, weighing her options.
“Huge ones,” I said, gesturing to my hands. “Only the bravest of wolves would go live there.”
Angelica shivered visibly.
“No, thanks,” she said. “The room you gave me will have to do! I’ll make it fit! No, thanks to you two!”
With that said, Angelica turned on her heels, lifted her nose in the air, and stormed out of the office, throwing the door shut behind her.
Luke and I burst out laughing as soon as the door clicked shut.
“Which room did you allocate to her?” I eventually asked when both of us were done laughing.
“An old storeroom, on the other side of the pack house,” Luke said.
“Are you f*cking serious?” I asked in disbelief. “You are looking for trouble!”
“Nope, trouble is looking for me,” he replied, laughing.
I couldn’t help but laugh. Luke was going out of his way to make Angelica’s life miserable, and for some reason, I like that idea.
I crossed my hands behind my head and laid back in my chair, eyeing Luke.
Was tormenting our wannabe Luna the only way to get rid of her?
Luke seemed to be reading my mind, and he gave me a definite yes for a nod.
Will it be worth it? Yes.
Will it drive her crazy? Yes.
Will she leave? I doubt that.
A sly smile followed on my lips as I went through the list, and excitement started to bubble up inside.
I lay forward, stretching my arms before me as my gaze found Luke’s.
“So tell me,” I said. “What is your plan?”
