Chapter 80 – Sai

Book:Tango with the Alpha's Heart Published:2024-6-4

Alexander’s POV
“Lex is safe,” I said. “He’s with Sasha.”
“Are you f*cking serious right now?” Emily spat in rage. “How dare you leave my son with someone he doesn’t know?”
“Stop worrying, Emily,” I said, my expression contorting with annoyance. “I will not ever leave Lex with someone I do not trust or with whom he does not feel at ease.”
“He’s a pup, Alex!” Emily freaked out. “He doesn’t know Sasha.”
“He seemed very familiar with her,” I said, taking her hands and directing her to a couch.
“What do you mean by that?” Emily growled.
Emily’s behavior was unlike anything I had ever seen. Was she acting unusually emotional because she had lost to Angelica, or was this because of Lex?
“I think a bit of both,” Ghost answered. Emily’s erratic behavior and sudden outbursts surprised him as well.
Luke left the room to go get Sasha to bring Lex to my office when I gave him the signal.
“Sit,” I ordered Emily, and she complied without arguing.
Sitting on the little coffee table across from her, I let go of a breath I had no idea I was holding.
I grasped her hands and looked into her eyes.
“I took Lex down to the dining hall earlier,” I started. “I suspected that he had not eaten all day because his stomach was growling.”
Emily scowled and said, “Okay. What role did Sasha play in this?”
“I will tell you if you stop interrupting me,” I said, my tone deadly and my patience wearing thin.
Emily threw her head back on the couch and rolled her eyes.
“Upon entering the dining room, Lex saw Sarah and called out “Sai.” She glanced over her shoulder right away and grinned as though she knew Lex.”
Emily gave me a disbelieving look. She did not think what I said was true.
She crossed her arms over her chest and said, “Lex has never met Sasha before. She is completely unaware of his existence!”
“Well, everyone in the pack now knows about Lex,” I said. “However, there was a distinct difference, as though they were more acquainted.”
The events quickly replayed in my mind, and I began telling Emily what had happened earlier.
“Evening, Alpha,” Sasha said, and she lowered herself to Lex’s level. “Hello, young prince!”
“Hi Sai,” Lex grinned at her.
At first, I was unsure why he kept on calling Sasha ‘Sai’ and why she was responding to the name-that was until it struck me that Lex wasn’t talking to Sasha but directly to her wolf.
With excitement, Lex remarked, “You finally crossed over.”
“Yes, I did,” she laughed in response. “I am glad to be here.”
Lex glanced in my direction.
“You can leave me in Sai’s capable hands,” he said. “She will take care of me.”
“Lex,” I uttered as I bent over. “If I leave you here by yourself, your mother will ring my neck.”
“But I am not alone,” he said. “Sai is one of my protectors. The goddess sent her to watch out for me.”
“Lex…”
I was at a loss for words with him.
“Alpha,” Sasha said, and I immediately turned to look at her. You need to attend to the queen and comfort her. I will take care of the young prince. Give me a call, and I will bring him over.
I sighed in irritation.
Will you see to it that he eats something? I asked.
“Yes, Your Highness,” Sasha replied as she took Lex’s hand and walked out of sight into the kitchen.
I was interrupted by a knock on the office door and our eyes quickly moved to the door.
Luke opened the door, and Lex leaped in, looking like an energetic and happy pup again.
I stood up to give Emily and Lex space.
“Mommy, mommy,” Lex yelled, leaping into Emily’s arms.
“My poor boy!” Emily let out a cry. “Are you alright? Are you injured? Do you feel ill? Do we need to take you to the infirmary?”
I had never seen Emily so distraught before. Her hands moved all over Lex, feeling for any injuries and his temperature.
“Mommy, I am okay!” Lex said, stepping away. “Sai took me to have some mac and cheese, and then she gave me some ice cream too,” he said, licking his lips. “She is the best!”
I internally chuckled. The boy was so sweet and innocent.
“Lex,” Emily said, glancing into his eyes. “I would like to know how you got here. Could you please tell me?”
Lex shook his head and said, “No.”
“Have you seen the people who took you?” I asked.
He shook his head once more and turned to face me.
“Is there anything you can tell me?” Emily questioned, growing agitated.
“Mommy,” he uttered, his eyes welling with tears. “The loud noises woke me up,” he uttered. “I’m sorry, mommy. I was scared and didn’t know where I was or what to do.”
“It’s okay, Lex.” Emily pulled him to her chest and stroked his back, trying to calm him down.
“I even forgot to call you Parker,” little Lex sobbed.
“Do not worry, sweetie; you are safe now,” Emily reassured him. “Nothing is going to happen to you again.”
Lex pulled away, and Emily dried the tears from his face.
“Are you tired?” Emily asked.
“A little,” Lex nodded.
“Do you feel like going to bed?” Emily inquired, Lex nodded and looked at Sasha, and Emily knitted her brows in frustration.
“Would you like Sasha to put you to bed?” Her eyes came to rest on me as she asked.
“Yes, mommy,” he replied, his little face beaming with joy once again. “Sai will stay by my side. She is very loyal and strong.”
Emily’s eyes shifted to Sasha, who inched forward.
Confused, Emily said, “I do not understand.”
“Mommy,” Lex said, pulling away from her. “Sai is my personal protector; the goddess sent her to watch over and keep me safe.”
Emily gave a bewildered shake of her head. She was still not convinced by anything he said.
“Do not worry, Mom,” Lex said as he took her hand in his. “Sai will keep me safe.”
With a sigh, Emily nodded and released Lex’s hands. He glanced up at Sasha as he skipped toward her.
“I am ready to go to bed,” declared Lex.
“You will need to take a bath first, little prince,” Sasha said, taking his small hand.
I was on the verge of laughing when Lex rolled his eyes.
“I’m too tired,” he said. “I’ll have my bath tomorrow morning.”
Peering at Emily’s face, I bit my lip. She did not know how to interpret the situation.
“That is alright,” Emily said, “Let him take his bath tomorrow morning. It has been an emotional and lengthy day. You can put him in my bed.”
Sasha nodded, and she, Luke, and Lex vanished through the office door.
“Do you believe Lex?” Mila asked out of the blue.
She has been observing everything in silence.
Emily shrugged.
“We both know he was born with abilities,” Emily said.
Mila nodded and got to her feet.
“I’ll take my leave now,” she said, picking up her belongings.
“Are you returning to the White Moon Pack tonight?” I asked. I didn’t want her to drive at night. Not because we couldn’t see perfectly fine at night, but because we had some maniacs loose.
“I’ll be leaving first thing tomorrow morning if it is alright with you, Alpha,” Mila said.
I internally sighed, relieved, and gave her a nod of the head.
“By the way, where’s Lilly?” Emily suddenly asked.
“I left her with my parents,” Mila answered calmly. “She was too freaked out to stay at White Moon Pack with Uncle Xavier and my cousins.”
That was understandable; the pup had gone through trauma.
Mila started to exit, said goodnight, and left.
A few moments later, Sasha reappeared at the door.
“Luna,” she called. “May I have a moment of your time?”
Emily nodded, and Sasha closed the door and got closer.
“Have a seat,” I offered.
“Thank you, Alpha,” Sasha said, sitting down.
“I guess both of you have a lot of questions for me,” Sasha asked.
I nodded, but Emily didn’t hold back.
“How do you know my son?” She growled fiercely, jumping to her feet.
This fight might have ended in the arena, but a new fight was about to start in the office.
