Chapter 39 – Just want to say goodbye

Emily’s POV
As soon as Alex left, I came to my senses. It was as if his scent and body had compelled me, and now that he was out of the room, I was able to think more clearly.
“What the f*ck did just happen?” I muttered under my breath. “How could I let it get so out of hand?”
I pinched the bridge of my nose, closing my eyes.
But the scenes of our lustful foreplay flashed before my eyes, soaking my panties.
Oh Goddess, where the hell did all that come from?
Hell, I even had his c*ck between my breasts!
My face heated, and I suddenly couldn’t breathe. I felt so embarrassed.
What will Alex think of me?
I have never done something like that-not even imagined doing such a thing!
I just could not believe how crazy it was. That wasn’t me, was it?
Could it be?
Was that one of my deepest desires?
I sighed hopelessly and shivered. My hands move to my lips.
I enjoyed his touch.
I enjoyed how his fingers moved over my body, magically leaving cold trails over my naked, hot body.
“No, no, no,” I muttered to myself. “That was a mistake. I can’t let it happen again!”
Yet, I could not shake the amazing feeling.
“Didn’t you enjoy our mate’s touch?” Willow mussed, walking closer. She had a huge, cheeky smile on her lips and looked very pleased with herself.
“I am still pissed at you,” I growled. “You did this on purpose! It is your fault that I gave in to him!”
“I haven’t done anything you didn’t want to. Neither did I do anything on purpose,” she said, rolling her eyes. “If you hadn’t been so unwilling to accept Alex, the bond wouldn’t have forced you to be with him! But no, little Miss Muffet wants to stay a prune and single for eternity! We could have been marked ages ago.”
“And then what?” I snapped. “We come and stay here.”
“Yeah, why not?” She lashed out. “Alex wants us.”
“And what about Lex?” I asked. “We don’t even know if Alex wants puppies or if he is ready to be a father!”
“He is an Alpha, Emily!” She said seriously. “All Alphas want pups to continue their line.”
“We don’t know that!” I yelled, feeling my throat run dry in panic. “How do you think Alex will react if he finds out he has a son? He will be pissed, not to mention that he wasn’t there for the birth.”
Willow knitted her eyebrows together.
“He might even think the worst!” I continued. “He might even believe that Lex is someone else’s pup.”
“I doubt that!” She argued. “Alex will accept him and love us unconditionally. He is utterly head over heels for you. He will do anything and everything in his power to keep you and to love you.”
I sighed, taking a seat at the dining room table.
“You don’t know that!” I said. “We don’t know if Alex would feel the same if there was no mate bond. You know what makes me even more afraid?”
Willow shook her head.
“Lex’s reaction when he finds out that Alex is his father,” I said. “It’s only been me and him all these years. Not to mention if he finds out he has been in his father’s pack. I am so afraid of knowing how he would react.”
“Lex is a clever boy,” Willow said. “He would accept him without any doubt.”
“Maybe, maybe not,” I said. “He might even feel that Alex is taking his place in my heart.”
“You don’t know that!” Willow said.
I suddenly had the urge to see Lex and hold him-maybe that would make me feel better.
“I need to go see Lex,” I said, jumping from the chair. “Before he goes home with Mila.”
“You promised Alex you wouldn’t go out,” Willow warned.
“I just want to say goodbye,” I said, heading to the door. “I’ll be quick, and Alex wouldn’t even know I was gone.”
“Rather mind-link Mila and tell her to bring Lex here,” Willow said. “With your luck, you’ll run out of time and go in heat again. Can you imagine if all the unmated wolves smelled and ran after you? Alex will be furious and will have his hands full fighting them off!”
I froze in my tracks and rolled my eyes, annoyed. For once, Willow had a point.
“Fine,” I said. “I’ll link her.”
For five whole minutes, I couldn’t get through to Mila. I became frustrated and started looking for Alex’s cell phone.
When I eventually found it, it was locked with a pin code.
“Dammit!” I hissed, irritated. “Why would he lock the damn thing?”
I threw the phone on his bed and stalked down the hallway back to the front door.
Alex should have an old landline phone in his office; maybe I could sneak down and make the call.
Willow tried to stop me, but I blocked her off, using the same wall technique she used on me the day Lex was born.
I opened the door, peeked my head out, saw nobody, and ran down the long hall to the nearest lift.
I pressed the call button, and the door swung open.
“Great,” I said, pressing the bottom number.
The lift didn’t take long to reach the first floor, and as soon as the doors opened, I peeked my head out, seeing if the coast was clear.
It was like Mother Moon was on my side; no one was around, and I sprinted down the hallway toward Alex’s office.
I sighed in relief when his office came into view and increased my speed.
I grabbed the door handle and pushed the handle down, finding the office unlocked.
The goddess must really love me today, and another relieved breath escaped my lips as I pushed the door open.
I quickly ran inside, closing the door behind me.
My heart leaped out of my chest as I took the last couple of steps toward Alex’s desk, picking up the office phone.
I dialed Mila’s number and waited.
“Alpha Alex,” Mila’s familiar voice came through the receiver. She didn’t sound too friendly over the phone.
Was she still pissed at Alex?
“No, it’s me,” I said. “Are you still visiting your folks?”
“Oh, hi Emily,” Mila said, sounding a bit friendlier. “Yeah. We are about to leave. Why?”
“I was wondering if you could bring Lex around before you go,” I asked.
“Oh, okay,” she said. “Were you at?”
“I’m in Alex’s office,” I said, feeling my face warm.
Mila paused for a few seconds, and I could hear her parents and the kids talking in the background.
“Uhm,” Mila hesitated. “My parents ask if you would like to come over. They would like to see you.”
“I can’t at the moment,” I said. “I have a little, uhm, issue…”
“What kind of issue?” She asked, worried. “Aren’t you returning home today?”
“I wish I could,” I said. “Something unexpected came up…”
I was hoping she could hear in my voice that she shouldn’t ask more questions.
“Okay,” she said with a sigh. “I’ll see you in a bit. Should we meet up at Alpha’s office?”
“Uhm, sure,” I said. “I’ll wait. Do you know where his new office is?”
I was sure I still had time.
At least I knew Alex’s quarters were close by should I need to leave urgently.
“I am sure I could find it,” she said, and she cut the call.
I sighed in relief and took a seat in the small sitting area in Alex’s office.
Emily’s parents didn’t stay too far from the pack house, and they should arrive soon.
I couldn’t wait to see Lex.
I took a seat on the couch, laid my head back, closed my eyes, and waited patiently for Emily and the kids to arrive.
The next moment, there was a knock at the door, and the door swung open-it wasn’t someone I was waiting for.
