Macy looked at Richard long and hard and decided that this was the prize she was to pay for what she decided to do to Angela.
She knew that she wasn’t worthy to be with Richard for he was a good man and deserved a good woman but she wasn’t that.
The fact that she had slept with someone she didn’t know made her feel dirty and like she wasn’t worthy.
Even though she loved the child she had carried and loved with albeit for a few months, she hated herself.
But on the other hand, she was happy that the man was unknown for had he been known who UT was, she was sure that she would have been forced to marry him and that was something she didn’t want to live with.
She wanted to be free and do what she wanted.
She this decided to tell Richard everything and make him realise that she wasn’t worthy to be called mama by Mel.
She didn’t talk in the vehicle and Richard didn’t push her.
She waited until they came to the villa and luckily enough, Mel was asleep and she thus wouldn’t have to pretend that all was well.
Her plan was to tell Richard everything and then leave before day break and that way, she wouldn’t have to look into Mel’s face and tell her that she wouldn’t be able to be in her life anymore.
She wanted to leave a good memory in the little girl’s head though she knew that Mel would probably hate her for leaving without a word.
“Shall we go to the study?” Macy asked feigning a calm voice but nothing was calm about her emotions.
She was thinking at a speed of a thousand bites per second.
She wanted to make sure came clean about the whereabouts of her child.
She wouldn’t leave it at that.
She would make sure that Angela vomited the truth and she didn’t care at what cost.
She was even ready to hire the services of Lion and his gang at whatever price.
The two reached the study and this was the first time Macy was entering this room.
She had lived in the house for a whole but she never crossed boundaries.
She always maintained her lane because she knew that it wasn’t upon her to want to know more than was necessary about this man she didn’t deserve.
Richard say at the couch instead of the office chair at the big table and beckoned Macy to sit.
She sat the far end of where he sat and she laid her back on the back of the soft sofa.
Shw sighed and rubbed her glabella.
How she wished that she didn’t have to do this but it was time.
She had procrastinated long enough and even tried playing several tricks on Richard but non worked.
It was time she came clean and have it done with.
“I was fifteen when I discovered that I wasn’t a Smith but in fact a Philips.
I had got an invitation for an application I had made for a TV studio here in DC for a teens show when I met the Philips matriarch.
Grandma fell into a fountain in the mall and I went to help her and that was when she looked at me and the first words she said to me were, “were do you look so much like my daughter in law?”
I thought that she was joking until she insisted on knowing me more.
She followed me to Connecticut after a week where she insisted on a DNA and it was proven that I want a Smith but in fact, a Philips.
My birth parents didn’t want to hear about that because they loved ‘their daughter’, Angela, very much and mama said that she was more sophisticated than me.
But I was naive and I thought that seeing that mama and I looked identical, except for the fact that I am darker than her, she would learn to love me.
I chose the Philips over the parents who had brought me up.
I watched as mummy cried but Angela couldn’t even give her a hug.
Angela looks like mummy by the way.
In fact, she hated them.
Now that I know who Angela is, I know that it is not them she hated but she hated the fact that they were poor.
She had been brought up in affluence and the life in rural Connecticut wasn’t just for her.
I didn’t mind sharing the parents with Angela but she had things in store for me.
She embarrassed me and told lies to our parents.
They obviously believed her because I wasn’t brought up by them and I thus could never be as refined as they were.
Angela set me up several times and I was so naive because I was looking for a sister in her and I didn’t know that she viewed me as competition and wanted me out of the way no matter what.
There is a lot she did at school, at home, in the company, at social gatherings, basically everywhere.
She made sure that I didn’t have any friends anywhere and that my own family hated me.
The Philips and Jones family had an agreement where their children wrr wto get married and since I was the Philips daughter by blood, I was automatically engaged to Andy Jones by default.
I didn’t love him but to please them, I learned how to get along with him and with time, we fell in love.
I really can’t tell if he was in love with me because it was so easy for him to be manipulated by Angela and he left me.
He left me when I was pregnant and at first, I thought that he was the father.
That day…” Macy narrated to Richard the story of how she was drugged by Angela, how she escaped and went to The Grand Hotel to a room that she and Andy were to meet in and how she thought that she had slept with him.
“You said the Grand Hotel?” Richard asked with his gaze on Macy.
Macy didn’t notice anything odd with his qiestions and she just answered all of them with her emotions closed.
She had detached herself from the story she was telling because if she thought about it, she would go back and strangle Angela to death.
“What room were you and that man… And him to use?
Do you remember the room number?” Richard asked.
“Yeah, it was 696,” Macy said.
She could never forget the room number because that was the room where she lost her virginity.
Richard seemed to be in deep thought and then asked, “may I ask you something? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to,” he said and for the first time since Macy started narrating the story, Richard seemed hesitant.
Afraid even.
“Yeah, just ask,” Macy answered.
On her side, she had decided that that night would be the night she answered all his questions and came clean because she didn’t want to leave any doubts in his mind.
She knew that no man would want a woman who had been defiled by another.
“At that time… At the time that you slept with the unknown man, did you happen to see his face?” Richard asked and Macy shook her head.
“No. I was very hot and when I entered the room, there was no light and he held me in the darkness and we did everything in te darkness.
I lost it sometimes in the night and when I woke up te following morning, he was gone.
There was only the bloody sheets and the unkempt room as evidence.
I washed and rushed out and now that I think about it, I didn’t confirm the room number as I left.
“B-blood-bloody sheets?” Richard asked as he got to his feet.
“Yeah, that man, whoever it was, was my first,” Macy said and Richard swallowed.
“How did the child die?
I mean, how did it happen and how were you able to believe that the child died?” Richard asked as he sat down again.
He was fidgety as he listened to her and couldn’t seem to want to sit still.
Macy narrated about how she was hit by a car and how she woke up in the hospital to Angela seated next to her bed.
“And you believe her?” Richard asked in a sarcastic tone that made her feel more foolish than she already felt.
“Yeah. Yes I did.
I wad in pain and the anesthesia was still in my body and I believed her.
I knew she didn’t like me but it never occurred to me that she would do me in like that.
I thought that no matter how bad she was, she wasn’t a murderer.
But now… Now she says that the baby is alive.
My baby…
Macy almost broke down something she had promised herself not to do before Richard and she swallowed the words she wanted to say.
“I will make sure that she tells us where the baby is.
She will,” Richard said and stood up.
“You need to rest and May will have found out for you where she took the baby by morning,” Richard said and held Macy to help her stand up.
