Richard trusted Macy. He was a believer in never judging someone by their past but by how they treat you from the moment you meet them.
He thus wasn’t interested in investigating Macy after he knew what he wanted: who she was and what she did.
He did that because he was worried for Mel. Mel had just been hurt by her own mother and he didn’t want a repeat of the same with Macy.
But tonight, he had to make sure that she stayed safe and that he knew who she was with and what she did just in case something happened.
That was why he put May and Asher on the job. Asher wasn’t even put on the job, he volunteered to go with Macy.
At exactly seven thirty in the evening, Asher was at his brother’s mansion ready for the action.
He was dressed in tight red leather pants, a red t-shirt and a nylon luminous blue jacket that produced weird sounds as he walked.
He had on black boots that looked like he had just come off a horse from a hard day’s work at a ranch.
“Uncle, what are you wearing? You look like Neon Red in the wrong uniform,” Mel said as she cracked up with laughter.
“You look so funny,” she said as she continued laughing.
“You don’t know anything about version. This is the new get up in the streets of DC,” he said as he admired himself and patted his pants.
“What the f**… Fudge are you wearing?” Macy asked as she came down the stairs all dressed up in her normal black leather ready for the race.
She almost cussed but stopped when she saw Mel pointing at her uncle with a small finger.
“See, even mama finds it odd. Go change uncle,” Mel continued.
“I look okay. This is what my designer told me to wear,” Asher lamented as he looked at the two females who were looking at him like a whale out of water.
“Then fire your designer. And what do you have t o consult a designer for? Are you going to a wedding?
Just go and change. All you need to wear is a jeans pants, a t-shirt and a jacket.
Please don’t overdo it. I don’t want to be embarrassed by you,” Macy said and instead of walking out to go and change, Asher sat on the couch with a pout.
“I am not changing. I already bought these clothes,” he said with determination.
“Okay. You have fifteen minutes. And in fifteen minutes I am leaving without you and I can promise you that you won’t be able to catch me even if you try and took your fastest car,” Macy said as she picked Mel.
“Baby, let me go and tuck you in bed before I leave.
We had already talked that aunt had to go out tonight right?” Macy coerced her as they walked upstairs.
After ten minutes, Macy was done tucking Mel in and reading her a chapter of her favorite comic.
When she came downstairs, she didn’t see Asher and she was almost happy as she hoped and wished that he had changed his mind.
She didn’t want to go and baby sit him but if he insisted, she couldn’t go back on her word as she had already promised.
When she walked outside, the Lamborghini she had chosen was waiting for her at the gate and Asher was still in the same clothes.
“So, you didn’t change? Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Macy said as she pulled him from the driver’s seat and took the wheel.
She didn’t overspeed. No. She used the normal speed limits since it was still early and they still had time to get to the meeting area and get everything ready.
They arrived at the venue on time and they waited for Lion for only a few minutes and he also arrived.
Macy had told everyone that she was Smita and that was the name they used to call her.
When her friends saw her they were very happy for they had not seen her for a while.
Only one girl, Dela, wasn’t happy that Macy was back because she was in love with Lion and had been for the longest time but the man seemed to have a soft sport for Macy. She thus didn’t like Macy for obvious reasons.
“Smita, you brought a stranger and you know that it isn’t allowed.
What if he goes and rattles us to the police?” Dela began and Macy could tell that she was spoiling for a row and who was she to refuse a challenge?
“He’s no stranger and Lion already knows and he agreed,” Macy answered without looking at her.
“Even though he agreed, we have to vote. That’s what the rules say.
And yes, he’s a stranger because we have never seen him,” Dela pushed and before Macy could answer, Asher beat him to it.
“Tell you what, can you race?” Asher asked Dela who was taken by surprise when she saw that face.
She usually thought that Lion was the most handsome man she had ever seen but it seemed like she hadn’t traveled.
She gawked at Asher who was giving her his signature smile. That smile had enabled him to sign multi million business deals and win over a lot of the best artists in the world over to his company.
He knew that this self entitled girl won’t be immune to it.
“Do you race?” Asher asked her again and it snapped her out of her fantasy.
“Of course. I won’t be here if I didn’t know how,” she answered although her voice didn’t vine out as fierce as she wanted it to be.
It came out as a croak and she cleared her throat to hide the embarrasment.
“Do you have a car?” Asher pushed.
“Yes, yes I do. The best here,” she answered.
Dela was a third generation heiress and she was an only child. Her parents owned a small clothing business and it was doing fairly well and she was thus spoiled because she was an only child.
She thus got whatever she wanted and that was how she was able to get a Mazda MX-5 and she was so proud of it that she showed it to anyone willing to look and listen. It was her little baby.
“Say what, why don’t you race with Macy and whoever wins takes the other person’s car. That’s the prize,” Asher said and Macy pulled him.
“What are you doing? Are you crazy? Do you know how much that car costs?” She asked Asher thinking that he was crazy.
“Of course, it’s mine, isn’t it?” He answered with a smile that said that he didn’t care and he was going to do it anyway.
“Macy doesn’t own a car,” Dela said with confidence.
“Oh, you are behind the news aren’t you? I am Macy’s boyfriend and I gave just bought her a new car. There,” Asher said as she showed Dela the new car he and Macy had driven here.
“Whos boyfriend?” Macy hissed at Asher who smiled and held her hand.
“Play along of you want to have two sports cars. You are going to win, aren’t you?” He asked Macy who sighed and walked with him while he held her hand.
Dela walked round the car as she touched here and there and her happiness couldn’t be hidden.
“Dela, come on. You know Macy is the best among us. Don’t do it,” one of the young men with her tried talking to her but she didn’t listen.
“It’s okay, she hasn’t been practicing and I have been honing my skills. Pretty sure that I can defeat her,” she said as she gave Macy a sinister smile.
It was at that moment that Lion walked in and the first thing he saw was the three young men with Dela trying to pull her away.
“What’s happening here?” He asked as ehe looked at Asher and Macy’s entertwined hands.
Another man who was watching everything without saying anything and was there as a friend judge narrated everything that happened to Lion.
“Oh, if she’s so eager to lose her car then let her,” he said as he walked towards Macy and Asher.
Asher could tell from a mile away what Lion’s feelings for Macy were even withiut being told from the jealousy that was swimming in his eyes and that was why he didn’t let go of Macy’s hand and continued holding her.
“Smita, I see you have brought the man you said you would bring. Please introduce us,” Lion said as he looked at Asher like he was prey and he, Lion, was the hunter.
“Oh, I am Ash. Just call me Ash and I am Macy’s boyfriend,” Asher introduced himself as he held the outstretched hand.
Lion swallowed and looked at Macy.
“Is it true? He’s your boyfriend?” He asked her.
“I… No… He’s just blabbering,” Macy said reading the atmosphere.
She could tell that if she agreed that Asher was her boyfriend, Lion might start a senseless fight and Macy didn’t want Asher to be injured in any kind of a scuffle in this place.
She was a good fighter and was confident of her skills but she knew that everyone here would support Lion and she and Asher would be outnumbered.
“Okay. Everyone gather around,” Lion called.
He was now in a better mood than when he first arrived.
