Jose sat there wondering what answer to give.
He did not want to double cross his old boss because he was the man he was today because of Gerald.
Also, he could not say no to this man because he seemed to be even better than his boss.
Jose was also afraid of the fact that this man knew everything about him.
This man seemed to be even better than Gerald when it came to getting information about people.
He wondered when this man had started investigating him because he had been here for less than two hours.
The last he checked, he wasn’t in any American data system and he thus wondered what ways this man had used.
According to Jose, for the man seated across him to know who he was and know even such minute details about him, he must have taken a very long period of time.
“When did you start investigating me?” Jose asked.
“I hadn’t met you until you walked through my doors carrying my truffles,” Richard answered truthfully.
What Jose didn’t know was that it was true that Richard hadn’t ever heard of this man until less than two hours ago.
When Jose walked in with those truffles and the tracker inside activated confirming that it was the bag they were looking for, that was the moment they started running his fingerprints from the card he left at the door.
Within minutes, his ‘Silent Eye’, as the Dragon Empire called their high tech surveilance machines when it came to finding anyone worldwide, had already identified that this man wasn’t a US citizen since his fingerprints weren’t in any government database.
They then ran the international search and walah! Puerto Rican.
Richard called his men in Puerto Rico and within an hour, he had all the info he needed about Jose.
That’s where his mission changed. He needed to make the main culprit pay
Killing Jose and taking the truffles would be like burning up a house because of a rat and the rat ends up escaping.
He thus decided to deal with it in a way that he would be smoking the rat out by directing all the smoke in the rat hole and covering all other escape routes leaving it with only one way out.
He would use Jose to smoke out Gerald and then take him down with all his illegal businesses.
Jose sat there thinking about his options: If he said no to this man, it was like he would be signing his death certificate.
The fact that Richard found out about him in such a short period of time showed just how capable he was.
“Okay. I will work for you but please don’t hurt my family,” Jose said.
“Good. I am a man of my word,” Richard said.
“And what do I call you?” Jose asked.
“You can call me Zeus.
Also, you can also tell Gerald that you met Zeus and see how he reacts,” Richard said and stood up.
“Someone will be with you shortly to direct you on what you have to do from here,” he said and left a baffled Jose there staring at the bag.
He wondered what it was he had been doing for Gerald so far.
Had he been doing something illegal?
So far, he had never encountered any problems while transporting any parcel he had been given though many were the times he was asked to avoid the police.
There was one time, shortly before he was ‘promoted’ he had a chase with the police.
It was unexpected as it had never happened again. He had called Gerald’s personal assistant asking for advice on what to do and the man ordered him to lose the police and he did.
He was a pro at driving because even back home, he earned the little he used to help his mom with doing such gambling activities like illegal racing.
He was then asked to dump the car in a lake and he successfully did that without detection.
He had suspected that it wasn’t anything good but that was the first and the last time that he had a run in with the police.
But now that the man names Zeus said that his goods had been stolen at the airport, Jose had a lot of questions he needed to ask Gerald.
He felt like an idiot because for an intelligent man like him, he really though that Glorious Enterprises dealt with electronics only.
Glorious Enterprises was a company that dealt with buying second hand electronic goods from people, renovating them and then selling them at a cheaper prize than new ones.
They had a large market base since the company was based in the poor areas of these states and the headquarters were in New Mexico.
As Jose was munching and mulling on the words Zeus had told him, a man that looked like he worked in the military due to his body size and posture walked in.
He was also wearing a suit although it looked like he would be more comfortable in casual clothes.
“I am Cash, I will be tour guide from now on.
And I would advice you to make it easier for me because I am not as merciful as my boss is,” he said as he took the same seat Richard had been sitting on a few moments ago.
“Have I been doing something illegal all along?” Jose asked this man he had just met because the issue was really eating at him.
Cash looked at him like an idiot.
“You thought that all the packages your boss had been sending you to drop have all been legal?
Then why did you have to use such excluded roads and ordered to avoid the police?” Cash asked as an answer to Jose’s question.
Jose sat there and felt like the idiot he was.
“How do you guys know so much?
Who are you guys?” Jose asked again baffled.
“Let’s just say that we are the good guys and nothing is hidden from us,” Cash answered.
“But your boss, the man who was just here seemed worse than my boss. He gave off a ‘don’t fuck with me’ aura.
He looks like the kind of a man who would snap your neck even without thinking,” Jose lamented.
He felt like it was better to work for Gerald than work for this man because he gave the aura that said that he would kill someone and anyone who went against him.
“Yes. He’s that kind of a person but Jose, you should be
grateful that you met him.
He just saved your life.
That just goes to show that sometimes, the bad guys are the only good guys you get,” Cash said as he produced a card from his pocket.
“The plan works as it was. Give your boss this card and he will wait for the money for a week.
Make sure that this other card is with you at all times,” he gave Jose the two cards.
“Then you will be using this phone from today onwards.
You can transfer your Sim card in the new phone.
Then, when you get to your boss, make sure that you place this phone near his while yours is on.
All we need are ten or so seconds.
After that, go on with your duties as given and if we ever need you, I will contact you,” Cash said as he stood up and took the bag from the table.
“I will be seeing you around Mr Diaz,” Cash said and walked out.
Jose wanted to ask a lot of questions but by the time he was coming to, Cash had already walked out.
He wondered whether that was it?
Just a phone and that was it?
For all the benefits Zeus talked about, Jose expected to be given a lot of work like being a spy and such.
But he was happy and he relaxed.
At least, he won’t have to do anything illegal.
He smiled and released a heavy breath with a small smile.
He wiped inexistent sweat from his brows and thanked his stars.
A woman walked in shortly after and like when he came in, he was given a blindfold and asked to wear it.
He was then escorted out and he breathed in relief when he walked the few flight of stairs down to the ground floor and put the building.
He felt like he was in his element again once he was in an open ground.
He expected to find Cash following him when he walked out the building because Cash had called himself a guide but there was no one.
He didn’t even stand for long before the valet brought his car over.
He boarded it and drove away.
He wondered whether it was all a dream since the people didn’t seem as keen on him as he thought and he thought it all good because he didn’t want to be nervous before Gerald lest he be found out.
