Book:Alpha’s Regret: Chasing My Rejected Mate Published:2024-6-4

Emily sits in front of the huge mirror in her room, a flowery outfit on her body as she prepares for the welcoming party dedicated to her. She has been looking forward to this night because it marks a new phase of her life, it will enable her to brace herself up and learn to move on without Louis.
She hopes to start something new in her cousin’s pack and at the same time, she hopes to ease her mind away from her thoughts on Louis. She is now ready to face the world and forget about the man she once loved and cherished.
As she stepped out for the night, the guests become captivated by her stunning beauty. The glow of her body intrigues the men, most of the guests are wondering why Jax threw a welcome party for his cousin. Although a few of them are aware of her relationship with Louis Clayton, they don’t know the actual reason behind her sudden stay in Jax’s pack.
Conrad is already at the bottom of the stairs with his hands ready to take hers, she gladly entwined her arm to his without any hesitation. He bends his head closer to her and whispers in her ears.
“You are looking magnificent tonight, Emily.”
She blushes lightly and responds, “Thank you.”
They proceed to greet the guests that have been anticipating to talk to Emily, most guys have already decided to shoot their shots at asking her out. Emily is a fine woman to date and build a family with.
“Greetings, Emily,” a young man approaches them.
“Greetings, Mr Longman,” Emily replies.
Being with Louis for nine years, Emily has gotten to know a lot of people in Louis’s circle. They know her as well and try to engage with her a lot of times, but Emily has to ensure that some of them do not find out about her breakup with Louis. News travel fast and Louis might find out where she is, she did not want him to know about her whereabouts.
“You are glowing more than before. Is Alpha Louis treating you well?” he asks her.
Emily is uncomfortable with his prying questions but pretends to smile, “It doesn’t matter why I’m glowing up. The truth is that my hard work pays off so well for me.”
Longman nods in understanding, “Louis has refused to acknowledge his friend’s visit, is that why you relocated to Moon bearers pack.”
Emily is a bit surprised by this information, Louis has never rejected his friend’s visit before. Is he feeling pained that she has left?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Perhaps when you get the opportunity to see him, you can ask him yourself.”
She left hastily with Conrad to avoid anymore questions from Longman, he might discover the truth and spread rumors across the packs. Another young man blocks their path to greet them, Conrad growls lowly while Emily plaster a fake smile on her face.
“Hi, Emily. I’m Alpha Eric of the New Dawn pack.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Eric,” Emily acknowledges.
“The pleasure is all mine. Are you going to be free tomorrow for lunch?”
Emily thought about it for a second. If she really hoped to move on then accepting a new date would be helpful, she is about to accept when Conrad interrupts her.
“No, she won’t be free by tomorrow,” Conrad replies.
Eric and Emily look at Conrad with surprise on their faces, Conrad would have punished severely for interrupting them if he was not the beta of Moon bearers pack.
Eric later nods and moves on his way to greet another person.
“Conrad, what was that supposed to mean?” she asks.
“I thought you wanted to say no to him, you hesitated before answering his question,” Conrad responds.
Emily scoffs, “I was going to say yes, Conrad.”
Conrad awkwardly scratches his head, he was only trying to be overprotective of her. He decided to allow to make her decisions by herself but each time a man comes across them, he finds himself rejecting their advances and calling off their appointments.
Emily becomes fed up with this and storms off, leaving him alone. Conrad goes after her, he grabs her arm and turns her to face him.
“Are you mad at me, Emily?” he queried her.
“Yes, I’m mad at you. It’s obvious that you are hellbent on ruining my one chance to be happy. I’m trying to move on and forget about Louis but you’re acting like I’m your girlfriend which I’m not, stop this nonsense and allow me to be happy.”
She seems to realize how deeply she must have gone in her words, her countenance changes and she looks apologetically at him. She realizes that she has gone too far this time around, even though she only wants to scold him. She has vented out all her anger and frustration on Conrad instead of Louis and it is unintentional.
“I understand that you want to be happy, Emily and I’m sorry that I’m in the way of your happiness. I simply meant no harm to you, I’m sorry.”
He slowly backs away before leaving her in front of her room. Emily regrets saying those hurtful words to him, she enters her bedroom and cries herself to sleep.
Conrad sits at the garden, his face looking dejected. The party has come to an end as the guests are trooping out of the hall but that is not his problem, he is worried about Emily’s anger at him.
He must admit that he was beginning to get jealous at the way those men boldly approached her to ask her out while he is left in the shadows even if he is beside her. He just wished that she could notice him the way he did notice her for years.
“The night is a long one,” Freya says from behind him.
Conrad is annoyed to see her face again but keeps his cool, he nods and watches her as she sits beside him.
“I have been transferred to the northern border, I might have to stay there for another three months,” she informs.
Conrad smiles inwardly, Jax did justice to his request.
“The northern border is a very dangerous area, be careful and always listen to instructions,” Conrad says.
Freya smiles, “Thank you. I must admit that you are one of my biggest inspirations to be here…”
“Freya, just leave already… please.”
He already have enough on his plate to deal with. She looks at him sadly.
“Why are you always pushing me away?”
“Because i loathe your presence. Sending away to the northern border is my only option to stop seeing your hazy face every single day!”
Freya abruptly stands up when she realizes that Conrad is the one that arranged for her to be transferred to the northern border, tears stream down her face as she looks at the man who is supposed to be her fated mate.
Seeing him love another woman breaks her heart but she is left with no choice but to leave because that is exactly what he wants her to do.
