Chapter Seventy-Three
Tristan’s Point of View:
If they were able to get to and take Thomas away, it was only a matter of time before they were back. I was not sure if they were done and considering they had tried to take Fiona, they must already have ideas. Perhaps they had taken Thomas instead of Fiona as an ambush.
It was very hard to get Veronica to come with us. She vehemently refused to come, saying, “What if Thomas comes back? How would she find me? No, I cannot leave. Fiona’s Alex too. What about him? Someone has to be here to give them all that information.”
She would not be moved by her decision.
“I am sure you saw those people that came for Fiona. I do not need to tell you that they will stop at nothing until they get what they want.
You should know that better than I do. We all want the same thing, but for now, we need to get to safety first.
They do not know my place yet. That would give us time to plan. Besides, there are others like me there. We would be stronger together. We have to leave now before the others come around,” I said, with a pleading look in Fiona’s eyes.
Fiona was the one person I had expected it would be very difficult to get to agree to come with me.
She had exceeded my expectations and more, as she was already aware. She certainly did know that this was beyond her, and she was calm. “She has no choice”, I thought.
I imagined myself in her place. I would not be nearly as collected as she is now.
“Must be the rival blood,” I said rather too loudly, for she heard me.
“What did you mean by that?” She inquired.
“Oh, it’s nothing really. I was just thinking to myself, a little bit too loud, I guess. Sorry to interrupt your thoughts,” I was asking myself why exactly I was apologizing, it was silly.
This only began to happen when I met her. It was like she expected me in the least places I expected. Believe me, I am trying to stay away from her, to keep her from my thoughts, because I knew she would have nothing to do with me because she was royalty, and I was a mere commoner.
Just then, Jesse, Molly and Drew had come out to pay their respects.
Jesse and Molly were both in awe of Veronica. This was a woman they had heard about, a fearless woman, a legend and an uncommon woman.
“Is it who I really think it is?” Molly asked Tristan and Jesse.
“Tristan, you should have told us. So, we will prepare. We have a legend within our home,” Jesse replied.
They bowed in respect to her.
“No, no, no,” Veronica said, shaking her head disapprovingly.
“I am not even supposed to put your young ones in this situation if only I did not fail in my duty to protect them,” she said, with her head bowed.
I can tell this was very hard for her because you can see it in the way she talks and her face.
“Welcome to our humble abode, your highness,” Drew had said to Molly.
While the other two were busy with the legendary Veronica, here was a lover of a beautiful woman engrossed in her rival.
I knew Drew well enough to know that he was trying his luck with Fiona. It was a bad move entirely, only if he had met Fiona earlier.
It was awkward, just the two of us in the room. The rest must have gone elsewhere, trying to process everything that had happened and perhaps come up with a plan out of the situation.
“How does it feel?” I asked, curious, wanting to know what she had up in her head.
“It feels like I am a thousand years old,” she said, and we laughed about it for a minute.
“To be honest, I cannot say. It amazes me. I am not surprised, only the demons might have scared me a bit. I am also worried about my friend Eleanor. I wish she did not have to see this; she deserves better. She would have a lot of questions, and no one would answer,” she said sadly.
“It is going to be okay, I promise,” I assured him.
Much more, I was trying to assure myself that this would work out just fine.
Fiona’s Point of View:
If I had not known before, I had already had ideas. Everything that happened before suddenly began to fall in place. I was beginning to grasp what was happening, I did not have to wait to be told.
And Veronica, was that why she had an argument the other day? Had she been hiding all these things from her?
How was Tristan involved in all of this? The dreams began to make sense. They might not all have been just dreams. It could be her life that was displayed right before her eyes.
I turned to Veronica expecting that she would say something, something at all, but she had decided to ignore me or pretend I was not there.
If my dream was real, it meant something bad had already begun happening. Veronica could not have come here without Thomas, would she?
“What do we do?” I had decided to break the silence between us.
“I do not know and certainly do not have the patience to wait. If we cannot figure this out quickly,” she replied shakily, as it scared her to say it, to admit that Mary was really missing.
“All this is all connected, right? And the people that tried to take me?” I asked, even when I was sure that I knew some of the answers already.
“It is connected. Right now, it just seems I have failed in all of my duties, as a mom and as a guardian,” I could see the pain and regret in her eyes, I could feel it. She did not need to tell me, I saw it.
“Since when?” I asked, and she seemed taken aback by the question. She was confused.
“Thomas, since when has she been missing?” I asked to be more specific now.
I found out she had gone missing the same day that Alex traveled.
“Alex traveled and has not bothered to call since she left. It is on the same day as Thomas’ disappearance. I am beginning to get worried that he perhaps might have not traveled at all as he wanted me to think,” I added.
“Mmmm,” that was the only reply that she gave.
Just when I thought this would not get any worse, I discovered I had left my phone at home in a hurry to get out.
“God damn it!” I cursed inwardly. What if Alex decides to call me? How could he reach me?
