Chapter Twenty-One
Fiona’s POV:
“I have no close relative doctor.” I told him again.
“Can…Can I know who that person is?” I asked the doctor.
“No ma’am.” The doctor replied.
“The donor asked for a hidden identity and would love everything to be confidential.” The doctor explained to me.
“Oh, wow.” I said.
“I’m sorry.” The doctor added.
I ignored it because I was not ready for any more drama.
“How is my brother doing?” I asked the doctor.
“He is okay but…” The doctor added.
“But what?” I cut in.
“You need to calm down, Miss. Your brother is doing well but he is currently in a coma,” the doctor said.
“What!” I said in disbelief.
“But I thought you said the surgery was a successful one.” I asked the doctor.
“Then why is my brother in a coma? What did you do to him?” I yelled at the doctor.
“It is not a severe condition, ma’am. He would not be in such condition for a long time.” The doctor tried to explain.
“Fiona, what is the problem?” Veronica asked as she rushed into the doctor’s office.
“I heard you scream.” Veronica added.
“He announced that Thomas is in a coma.” I told her in tears.
“Oh my God.” Veronica said.
“But yelling would not bring him back, my child.” Veronica told me.
“The only thing we can do now is make sure that he is happy even in his unconsciousness, so he can recover quickly.” She told me.
“Right doctor?” She said again.
“You are a hundred percent right, ma’am.” The doctor answered.
“Now, let’s go check on your brother.” Veronica said as we left the doctor’s office.
“He looks peaceful.” Veronica said as we got into Thomas’s ward.
“I want him to recover as fast as possible. I cannot take seeing him in this condition, even though we have not been on good terms lately.” I told Veronica.
“I understand you, Fiona.” Veronica said, rubbing my shoulder.
“Lest I forget, I got you two lunches.” I told Veronica.
“Where were you, Mom?” I asked her.
“I could not find you when I got in.” I asked again.
“Oh. I…I felt weak, so I decided to have some rest.” Veronica said.
“You see, you could have just gone home earlier.” I told her.
“There is no problem. Besides, we will be leaving soon.” Veronica shrugged the statement off.
“Then, you leave. I would just stay behind.” I told her.
“If you say so.” She replied.
“But you would have to have your meal before leaving.” I told her.
“If you say so.” She replied with a smile.
Veronica bade me goodbye as I sat by Thomas’s bedside. It felt distressful but Thomas was family and the only one I had around me.
Uncle Victor’s POV:
“Thomas got into an accident today.” I told Alexander.
“Whoever is responsible should go into hiding.” I said in anger.
“Why are you so angry dad, besides he is still alive.” Alexander told me.
“But he is in a coma. This alone spoiled all my plans. Argh!” I replied to Alexander.
“This would not deter me. I always have my way around things.” I added.
“What do you mean, father?” Alexander asked me.
“Nothing, it is nothing. Just focus on what you are supposed to do.” I told him.
“I hope you have taken care of Whitman’s case?” I asked Alexander.
“No, dad.” He answered.
“What is wrong with you, Alex?” I asked in anger.
“What if his presence destroys your plans?” I asked again.
“That would not be a problem dad besides Fiona asked him to stop seeing her, so he is clearly out of the picture now.” He explained.
“I hope so.” I said.
“I hope it does not thwart your plans of becoming the CEO and it keeps the media away.” I said.
“It won’t, dad. Besides, we will be getting married soon.” Alexander told me.
Fiona’s POV:
“What does he want again?” I said as I picked my phone to answer a call.
“Hi, Uncle Victor.” I said in the sweetest tone ever.
“How are you doing, my darling?” He asked me.
“I am doing well.” I answered him.
“I heard about what happened to Thomas, I am sorry.” He said.
“I would love to clear off the hospital bill as a token.” He told me.
“Oh Uncle, that is so thoughtful of you, but we’ve cleared up all the bills.” I told him.
“Oh, that is okay.” He said.
“But do not hesitate to ask for any help when you need it.” He said as we exchanged pleasantries before we ended the call.
“God forbid, I accept anything from an ungrateful swine like you.” I said as I dropped my phone.
“Fiona.” Veronica woke me up with a tap in the morning.
“You must head home now; you need to rest.” She said as she got into the ward.
“Good morning, Mom.” I greeted her.
“Good morning. Come, I need to get you home.” She said as she held me by the hand.
“I think you should just be with Thomas. I would order a ride.” I told her.
“Bye, mom.” I said as I exited the ward.
“Take good care of yourself, child.” She said as I left.
“Get into the car.” Uncle Victor said as he parked his car beside me.
“Uncle Victor. What are you doing here?” I asked him.
“Am I uninvited here? Or can’t I see my soon to be daughter-in-law?” He asked with a smile.
“No. I thought you were stalking.” I told him.
“Oh no. I would never do that especially to you.” He said.
Uncle Victor drove me to his house and made sure I had a lavish dinner.
“Thank you.” I told him.
“I did not take you home because I knew you were too tired to make breakfast.” Uncle Victor told me.
“Aww! That was thoughtful.” I said, forcing a smile.
Everything on the table felt like poison.
“It would not be easy trusting Uncle Victor again.” I told myself.
“I can’t see Alex; I have missed him a lot.” I said.
“He’d be here in a bit.” He said.
“My son loves you. The last thing you’d want to do is fail him. It wouldn’t end well darling.” He said as he left.
