Chapter Thirteen
Fiona’s POV:
“Wow!” I exclaimed.
“I love your audacious Uncle, but you would not be seeing me anywhere close to you, your son or home,” I told him in anger.
“And I hope you are not calling because of my father’s business because I will not stop till I succeed,” I said.
“I am,” he tried talking as I cut the phone off in anger.
“If you want to know more about your father’s business, call me,” he dropped a text.
I thought of keeping it to myself thinking it could be a trap. I decided to tell Veronica for our safety.
I only hoped they were not able to track my location.
I told Veronica about it, and she asked me to inform the officer.
I got to work, and I felt forced to apologize to Whitman.
“Come in,” he said as I knocked on the door.
“Hi, uh…I am so sorry for how I have been behaving towards you lately,” I apologized.
“Oh, really? I didn’t notice but you look so beautiful today,” he said, smiling.
At this point, I noticed he was trying to piss me off.
“Oh please,” I said as I rolled my eyes and left the office.
Later that day, Whitman invited me for dinner. It has been a long time since I stepped out for dinner, the last was actually when I was in high school.
“The office gossipers. What if they find out?” I asked myself a little bit sad.
“Not going would not stop them from gossiping. Let them keep it coming, no one is stopping me from having fun today,” I told myself with a wide smile on my face.
Veronica helped me with searching for a dinner gown and made sure my make-up was perfect for the night.
Whitman sent a chauffeur to pick me up. It made me feel like a queen.
I got there and saw Whitman. He looked quite different and so handsome. His beard looked well-trimmed and had the perfect haircut.
“Come off it, Fiona,” I told myself as I noticed myself tripping over his looks.
“Welcome,” he said as he offered me a bouquet of sweet-smelling flowers.
“Apology accepted,” he told me as I took the flowers from him.
As I was starting to get late, I told him that I would love to leave.
He drove me home and I thanked him for accepting my apology I did mean at first.
“Keep looking beautiful,” he said as he drove off without waiting to get a response.
I got into the house and Veronica stayed up late waiting for me to return.
“Mom, you should be asleep by now,” I told her.
“I cannot sleep knowing fully well my child is not home,” she told me.
“Well but I am safe with Whitman,” I told her.
“No one said you weren’t not when you have all that smile on your face,” she said then I realized I came in smiling from ear to ear.
I got to my room, took off my make-up, got into my pajamas and went straight to bed.
It was going to be a long sleep, since it was the weekend.
I went to bed while thinking about the date. To me, it was a date.
“It was amazing,” I said as I retired to bed that night.
I slept smiling that night like someone who just won a lottery.
A new week and I got ready for work as usual. I got there earlier than before and I met the officer gossipers, doing what they do best gossiping.
But today, it seems they were angrier than the former time, but I did not bother.
I got ready to leave and Whitman asked to drop me off, but I declined. I did not want to stress him because it has been a hectic one for him.
We have been trying to work in the sales department of the company.
I got outside and heard someone call my name and turned.
“Alexander,” I said as I recognized him.
“How did he find where I work?” I asked myself.
“How dare you stalk me?” I asked him in anger.
“Calm down. I am not here to fight you,” he said.
“Calm down? Are you telling me to calm down?” I asked him angrily.
“I am only here to give you flowers,” he said, presenting a bouquet of flowers to me.
This made me angrier that I turned to leave to avoid creating a scene, but he kept following me.
“I just want to have a talk with you, Fiona,” he said.
He was starting to raise his voice, I stood, and I asked him to speak from a distance.
“I am so sorry for what happened between us last time. I feel so ashamed,” he said.
“And I am here to make amends,” he added.
“Sorry but it is coming late not after you watched your father humiliate me and threw me and my brother out of his house,” I told him.
“I am sorry,” he insisted.
“Sorry you cannot undo what you did and do not show your face anywhere around,” I yelled at him, and I went my way.
I got to the car park, and I met Veronica there. It seems she has been there for a very long time.
“What kept you, Fiona?” She asked me because it felt unusual.
“You cannot imagine Alexander came here this evening, offering me a bouquet of flowers, wanting to apologize,” I explained to her.
“He should be grateful I did not get to see, else I would have punched him in the face,” Thomas said angrily from the backseat.
“What was your reply?” Veronica asked me.
“I told him never to stalk me again,” I told her.
“Good,” Veronica replied.
“I would tell the officer about this. I do not think you’re safe around here,” Veronica said.
“Oh! Seems I dropped something,” I said as Veronica kick-started the vehicle.
“What is it?” Veronica asked me.
“My ID cards. Give me a minute, mom,” I told her as I rushed into the building.
“Are you looking for this?” Whitman asked with my ID card in his hands.
“Thank you.” I stated.
“You dropped it while you were talking to your man. He made you really happy,” he said as he walked away.
“What’s with the attitude?” I asked myself in confusion.
