Mother was in the theater.
Fortunately Theressa had arrived at the hospital early, she was able to see her mother before entering the theater.
She had to beg George to leave, but he was reluctant, he also wanted to ensure her mother comes out from the theater safe.
Theressa felt comforted by George’s action. The surgery had lasted for more than hours.
To Theressa it lasted for days. She just wanted her mother out alive. She couldn’t loose another family again. She will lose her mind.
Her feet tapped against the hospital floor tiles anxiously. Restlessness was the word for Theressa at the moment.
She couldn’t sit down, no she can’t, not when her mother is at the verge of life and death, not sure if she would be able to handle losing her mother.
And so as the doctor stepped out both George and Theressa rushed forward.
“How’s my mother?” Theressa questioned, her throat dry and heart were burning, tears were about to escape from her eyes. Her hands shook as she awaited the doctor’s response.
“She’s fine miss Taylor” The doctor began Theressa’s muscles released from the tension that had been welling in her.
“The surgery went well and she will be better soon” The doctor said with a smile.
“Thank you… Thank you doctor” Theressa had begun crying, it was tears of joy for the past months she had been having images of losing her mother. It was terrifying.
George had taken Theressa into a hug, patting her back softly.
“It’s all good now” he whispered, comforting her. The both of them stood like that for minutes. Until Theressa broke out from the hug drying the tears away from her cheek.
“Thanks a lot George, you don’t have to wait with me” Theressa stated.
George had done a lot for her and Theressa didn’t know where to pin this good gesture at. Was this George just being nice or he felt bad for what one of his companies top staff did to her.
“Okay then, call me if you need anything” George told her as the shot each other a smile.
Theressa was grateful, sincerely grateful that she made a mental note to pay back his kind gesture.
She saw George out, watched as he drove off before going back inside the hospital, she didn’t feel like leaving her mother, not until she saw the improvement the doctor was talking about.
She sipped on the black coffee that has been on her hand for a while now and it was starting to get cold.
“Theressa?”
Someone called from behind her. A familiar voice. One she had forgotten.
She turned to him, to her friend, her once best friend, her once boyfriend. Justin.
Theressa was the least interested in how he was doing or how he and Eunice relationship pulled through.
There were bruises all over his face, bandages covering some while the rest portraying boldly.
“I’ve been looking for you, where have you been?” Justin questioned, his voice soft and tiny almost like a female voice.
“Looking for me? Why would he be looking for me? We are as good as strangers now” Theressa turned and began to walk. He probably still think she’s a fool for him, and since he’s battered, she will pity him and let him in.
“I’m sorry for all I did to you” Justin yelled. Theressa paused in her steps. She was annoyed, thankfully the hospital wasn’t packed. She got a few stares but everyone turned back to what they were doing.
“Let’s talk outside” Theressa stated, her tone firm, eyes narrowed slightly as she glared at him.
“What are you trying to do Justin?” Theressa hissed, hands raking her hair backwards.
“Can you tell him I apologized?” Justin asked, coming out as a plea causing Theressa brows to knit together in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
“Your fiancé” Justin muttered, eyes on the gravel floor.
Theressa had no boyfriend talk less of a fiancé, she couldn’t comprehend what Justin was saying. She had no boyfriend. “Or is Justin finally going insane?” She thought. It was a good explanation to why he was in the hospital.
He certainly didn’t come to see him.
“What do you mean fiancé?” Theressa’s hand had gone up to her waist as she held her sides waiting for Justin response.
Theressa’s tone seemed to make Justin confused.
“I got this beating from him” Justin stated. Now even Justin seemed to be unsure about what he was saying.
“Wait if you don’t have a fiancé then who-” his words were cut short by the presence of someone. Someone that caused his eyes to widen in shock, his mouth open in a silent gasp, face pale as color rushes out from his face while his eyes remained fixed on the figure behind Theressa.
Theressa of course followed his gaze and her brows furrowed on seeing Marcelo. Even with the dim light Theressa could make out his expression, hands in his pocket, eyes glaring at Justin, Jaw tightened.
Then it clicked as she turned back to Justin, wanting to question him but Marcelo marched up to them.
“I made it pretty clear all you have to do is apologize and leave her alone but I guess you want to be stubborn” Marcelo muttered.
Justin on the other hand kept shaking his head in disagreement. “I will leave now” he said, giving Theressa one last apologetic look before walking away. He wasn’t even walking properly. He was leaping and Marcelo is the cause. Marcelo had done that to him.
Theressa had to be polite in what she was about to say besides Marcelo is still her boss so she took a breath before opening her mouth to speak.
“What did you do?” Theressa questioned afraid of his response.
“Gave him his own taste of his medicine” Marcelo responded non chalantly.
Theressa was angry, not at the fact her boss had beaten up her ex rather she was angry at herself.
She felt hope ignite within her and she couldn’t help but think her feelings are being reciprocated. Because no one, no one has ever beaten up someone for her. No one has ever brought her enemies to her feet and she never thought anyone will.
“It’s in my contract to protect you…atleast as long as you don’t go ahead to stab me in the back” Marcelo continued.
This is not the answer Theressa wanted. She wanted something else. Something that will feed her hope.
“Do you have feelings for me, Marcelo?” Theressa questioned, sudden confidence washing over her as she let his name slip out from her tongue.
Marcelo’s gaze darkened. “No” He said firmly.
“And what if I do?” A part of Theressa tugged at her to keep shut but she trashed it.
It was crazy at first, falling in love with a mafia, with a heartless soul that could take her life in a second. But that wasn’t what attracted Theressa to Marcelo.
Marcelo had a hidden soft spot and Theressa could see it.
Marcelo said nothing in response as he turners to leave.
“First you fired my ex director and then you beat up my ex, you don’t expect me to not think you have feelings for me or you care for me and want to be more than just a boss and secretary” Theressa was raising her voice at the moment, not caring about anyone noticing them. She had found out about the sudden resignation after being threatened by Marcelo from her team leader. It was unbelievable at first but now it all seemed clear to her.
It was a whole to Theressa, at first she could not believe it but why would George lie?
“Pathetic” Marcelo muttered without turning to her as he walked away.
Leaving Theressa and her confession standing alone in the dark.
