The bleeding man was taken out of the boxing ring with a stretcher. If he survives after such beating his life will never be the same.
However, there were people around, watching, laughing, drinking cheering, both old and young. Some looked frustrated like they have lost a bet. They did loose their money to the other parties that placed their bets on the hefty dark man that obviously was going to end up winning.
“I didn’t sign up for this” Theressa began as they were sat in one of the VIP booth at the mezzanine floor. Where Theressa could view everything. The illegal gambling, the cockfighting, clear usage of drugs. Theressa didn’t need to be told know drugs were being distributed here. She had to force herself to not look down as she kept her gaze on Marcelo.
“You did kitten, you’re not just my secretary at the company. You’re my secretary, secretary to all my business” Marcelo stated, before sipping on his alcohol.
“This is cheating. It’s not right. How am I to know you are involved in such” Theressa pointed out almost gagging at the screams from below. This place must have soundproof walls, the music and cheering would normally be heard by anyone in front of the hotel.
Theressa had gone to bars, to clubs, to parties. But this was different, even the party lights made her eyes hurt, she was the least comfortable person here.
“I’m sure you had a hint from the convenience store” the smirk on his perfect lips. Theressa wanted to rip off. She hated the fact she was right. But honestly she had hope her intuition was deceiving her and even though he had hands in dirty dealings, Theressa wouldn’t have to get involved.
“Well now I’m going to report you to the police” Theressa shot up from her seat, determination to turn her boss to the police fueled her veins.
“Mary, Rita, Gabriel, Joel, Adam, Gabby” Marcelo began listing causing Theressa to halt in her tracks.
“And Mina, wanna know the cause of their death? Betrayal, weakness, greed. Do you think you would make it out of here?” Marcelo questioned, his clef crossing over the other as he rested his back on the black leather couch.
“It will be a pity to add you to the list, you have so much potential”
Tears almost rolled down Theressa’s cheek on hearing Marcelo’s words.
“Why me?” Theressa fell back to the chair. Her heart splitting into two at the thought of what she had put herself into.
“Kayden will show you around, and send you the documents. It shouldn’t be taken out of this floor. He will let you know about the things you are to do. Goodnight kitten” Marcelo walked out like he did not drop a bomb on Theressa, like he had not just murdered someone.
Even as Kayden passed on informations to her, she couldn’t take it, she couldn’t grab anything he was saying. For a moment, as Theressa stepped out from the hotel she had the urge to run to the police but something held her back, certainly not because she was scared of getting hurt or killed. There was something else she couldn’t pinpoint.
And so she went to her mum. She needed comfort, though her mother was still unconscious she could still find comfort by just holding her warm hands. The hand that took care of her while she was younger, she couldn’t hold back the tears anymore.
“I’m sorry mother. I Killed someone, I’m a murderer” her tears had no limit at this point she cried beating her chest as the memory replayed.
And the next day her eyes were so swollen, she got stares from the other staff.
She ignored them all even the side talks about her sleeping with Marcelo in order to get this job. They were right , even though she was yet to have sex with him sooner or later they will.
Marcelo was earlier than expected his office door was slightly ajar, signaling he was in his office. Reporting to his office was the right thing to do but Theressa couldn’t, she couldn’t bring herself to face a mafia lord.
“This is the right time to find out who he is. Keep up with the act till we get him in our trap” Theressa heard Marcelo say.
“Yes sir” kayden responded. Theressa made her way to her desk trying not to act suspicious. She had to be careful. One wrong move and she would be killed.
“The boss wants to see you” kayden proclaimed as he walked out.
Hearing that, her heart raced faster than when she was eavesdropping. She wanted to avoid him, but it was an impossible mission
And so with her hand fisted, trying to hold herself from quivering in front of Marcelo.
“Good morning” Her greeting was cut short by her boss who was putting on his black suit coat in haste, shoving car keys inside his pocket. Of course Theressa didn’t fail to notice the gloves covering his hands “When will he ever fully leave his hands out?” Theressa thought.
“Pack your bag we are going on a trip” Marcelo ordered. It just didn’t sound right but she didn’t have a choice, she can never have a choice with Marcelo.
“Yes sir… I’ll get back home and-” Theressa stammered
“Hold” Marcelo of made his way towards her.
“You don’t have to go home , just take yourself and follow me,” Marcelo clarified, his steps gentle despite the hurry in his tone.
Kayden had opened the SUV jeep door for Marcelo to get in while Theressa made her way to the passenger’s seat. To Theressa that was an order she wasn’t comfortable with.
“I’m okay”
“I said sit with me”. Now that was a clear order even though his voice was void of harshness, it was cold and it made Theressa shiver.
“As offered she got into the back seat with him. This is choking. She wanted nothing but to exit car. Marcelo could just hurt her any minute .
“I’m not going to hurt you so relax,” Marcelo muttered. As if he had read her mind.
He wasn’t lying. Theressa could tell from his voice but she was still tense.
They had made their way to the rooftop of the hotel Theressa dreaded. She had to hold herself throughout from puking. After seeing what happened beneath this building she couldn’t be the same
“I hope you’re not afraid of flying in one” Marcelo whispered in her ears, his hand on her lower back as he pointed at the helicopter before them.
Between the loud noise from the helicopter she could still hear him clearly without Marcelo raising his voice.
She shook her head. The helicopter wasn’t a problem but the fact that they were heading to Connecticut which is just thirty miles from midtown Manhattan. And by road, it’s just a two hour journey… it seemed too much getting to a place could be far better.
“Why don’t we just go by road? ” Theressa questioned
But was ignored as Marcelo gestured, letting her to settle in first as she plugged her ears with the noise-reducing headphones.
And that was it .
We had reached Connecticut, standing in front of one of the best clothing brand store in Danbury. It was Theressa’s first time out of New York she had stayed within New York, her whole life. It had been one of her dreams to fly out the state and here she was. She had to hold herself from squeaking in excitement. All the grief she had build went down a little.
“Brother!!”
An Asian lady squealed in excitement, as she ran to hug Marcelo and all Theressa could do nothing but get occupied with the luxurious view of the store.
“I’ve missed you” she whined.
“Is she his sister?” Though Theressa had to look away but she was curious about their relationship.
“And who’s this? A new one?”
Now Theressa turned to her. Her brow knitted in confusion what does she mean a new one.
“Where are the dresses?” Marcelo questioned, getting the lady off himself.
“Follow me,” she said with a smile.
Theressa didn’t expect this. What was Marcelo doing by getting her to try on these dresses?
They had tried more than ten now and at this point she was tired of the waving off hand from Marcelo.
However this seemed to be the last as Marcelo had gotten to his feet. Thistle he waved the still unnamed Asian letter. His tightened jaw didn’t go unnoticed by me, it’s like he was holding himself back from doing something as He made his way to me.
“As much as I want to say you look beautiful in this dress and I want to fuck you while you are on it, you could die in a few minutes in this dress” Marcelo stated. Theressa’s eyes widened her body rooted to the spot as blood rushes away from her skin, her muscles tensed as she tried controlling her breathing.
“You’re going to have to control your breathing more, do nothing and trust , s if you want to live” Marcelo whispered in Theressa’s ears.
“Look who’s here!”
They both shifted their gaze to the unexpected guest in front of them.
Theressa didn’t fail to notice the glances the Asian lady had given Marcelo. They seemed to agree on something only they know about as she leads her staff out of the store. She was exiting the store along with her staff and something was definitely about to go down.
