“Honey, why aren’t you getting ready yet? We’ll be late,” Darwin complained as he entered the bedroom to find Veronica still relaxing on the bed.
In just an hour, they were supposed to arrive on time for an engagement ceremony. According to the schedule, tonight, Randy would propose to the girl he had been matched with.
“Are we seriously not going to his event? I’ve already dressed up nicely and put on makeup, and now you want to engage in some making love like the other day.”
Darwin laughed. It seemed like his wife still remembered their last encounter vividly. What could he do? At that time, he had been truly tempted by Veronica’s stunning appearance, and it had been a while since he had touched her. It was difficult to resist the urge to be intimate with her.
“No, honey. This time we have to go. It’s Randy’s event after all. It would be unfair to him if we don’t attend his important event tonight.”
“So, we’re definitely going, right?”
Darwin nodded confidently. He approached Veronica, then gently encouraged her to get up from the bed.
“Yes, of course, darling. So let’s hurry and change our clothes and do our makeup. We don’t want to be late for the event.”
Veronica nodded and walked to the walk-in closet to choose a comfortable dress for the evening. Darwin did the same. He was busy changing his clothes, and when they were both ready, they hurried to Randy’s house.
Upon arriving, everyone was already gathered. After making sure that all the immediate family members were present, they all set off together to the home of Randy’s future bride.
Luckily, the bride’s house wasn’t too far away. The group arrived and was warmly welcomed by the Diharja family. They engaged in some small talk, exchanged gifts that had been prepared, and then sat down, waiting for the bride to enter the event room.
“Look who’s nervous,” teased Darwin, who was sitting right next to Randy.
“Who’s nervous! That’s an exaggeration,” Randy protested.
“Just admit it, Ran,” Darwin teased relentlessly. “I can tell just by your face. I’m sure you’re getting cold sweats and butterflies waiting for the event to start.”
Randy turned to Darwin and glared in annoyance. Normally, he was the one who teased or did things that intimidated his cousin. But tonight, it seemed the tables had turned, and Randy felt like Darwin was mocking him.
“Why would I be nervous, Win? This is just a regular engagement event. And we’re getting married because we have to, not because I love that woman. So, it’s just normal. Besides, she’s not really my type.”
Darwin sighed. He silently prayed that Randy would eat his own words, just like he had experienced before.
“Not your type? How so?”
“This Ghea is kind of tomboyish. Not sexy like the women I used to date.”
“You old pervert!” Darwin chuckled and shook his head. “And don’t get too arrogant. You might find yourself chasing after your future wife later. Many have regretted it, Ran. Do you want to be the next one?”
“It’s impossible,” Randy shook his head and pointed at himself. “A guy as handsome as me, chasing after a woman? Isn’t it usually the other way around? Everywhere I go, women have been chasing me and begging to be my partner.”
“Well, let’s see how it goes. If that ever happens, I’ll be the one laughing the loudest,” Darwin said deliberately, echoing the words Randy had once said to him.
Ending their conversation, Randy refocused his attention on the MC, who was reading the program for the engagement ceremony that evening. After the socializing and opening remarks, Ghea, the bride-to-be, was escorted into the room.
As Randy caught sight of Ghea, who was making her entrance, he suddenly fell silent. He was left speechless, having lost his words upon seeing his future bride up close.
In that moment, he wondered in his heart whether he could still maintain the arguments he had made to Darwin or whether he would eventually give in along the way.
