Chapter 57

“Nath, are you seriously not worried about Veronica going to Korea this time?”
This morning, Deasy and Sean were indeed engaging in physical activities to make the most of their remaining two days of vacation. At a fitness center, they spent time doing cardio and various other small exercises.
“What do you think I should do, Des?”
“Well, you could call her. Prevent or try to do something about it, you know. So Veronica doesn’t get closer to Darwin.”
Instead of responding seriously to Deasy’s statement, Sean chuckled softly. Just by looking at his face, it was evident that he was quite relaxed. There was no hint of concern whatsoever, unlike Deasy, who had been visibly anxious all this time.
“Des, I really love Veronica. But right now, I’m nobody to her. So, it’s impossible for me to suddenly call and forbid her from doing things I don’t like.”
Deasy sighed lazily. Why did Sean seem so clueless in her eyes right now? He claimed to love her, but he seemed to be inactive and not making any effort.
“If you keep quiet like this, I’m not sure Veronica will come back to you, Nath.”
“Who says?” Sean retorted, squinting his eyes. “Until this moment, I still believe that Veronica’s love for me is intact.”
This time, it was Deasy who laughed. Her ears tingled hearing what Sean had just said.
“Oh my goodness, Sean. Why doesn’t that naive side of you disappear? Come on, wake up! Veronica might have been head over heels for you in the past. But now, she’s with Darwin. They live together and share a room, maybe even a bed. Just imagine, every day when they open and close their eyes, they’re always together. So, it’s not impossible for Veronica to develop feelings for Darwin.”
Sean fell silent. Deasy’s words had managed to disturb his thoughts. Before those words could fade from his mind, Veronica’s friend continued, picking up where she had paused.
“Imagine and think carefully, when they’re on vacation in Korea, Darwin manages to win Veronica over and that jerk manages to take what should have been yours. In such a situation, will you continue to stay quiet? Will you just let it happen?”
Sean looked up. He stared intently at Deasy’s face. Eventually, he found himself getting caught up in what Deasy had just said. Instantly, images of Darwin seducing Veronica danced in his mind. So, should he do something about it now?
Meanwhile, in a different location, Darwin and his group, who had already had breakfast, were getting ready to depart from Jeju Island to Seoul.
Spending a little over an hour on the plane, Darwin, along with his wife and cousins, arrived in Seoul around 1 PM. As they exited the airport, Celina, Darwin’s younger sister, appeared to specially welcome them.
Using a Chevrolet Explorer Van, the beautiful girl brought the entire group to Kennedy and Luna’s residence in Gangnam district.
“Finally, we’re here,” Randy remarked as the van they were in stopped in front of Kennedy’s house.
Everyone got out of the car right away. Upon entering the house, Randy’s smile grew wider because it seemed that the household staff at Kennedy’s place had prepared lunch for all of them to enjoy together.
“Ken, you’re so understanding, huh? It’s great to have a cousin like you. You just knew I was really hungry.”
Kennedy sighed lazily. Instead of entertaining Randy’s remarks, she took Luna and Kalvin to rest in their room on the second floor.
Meanwhile, Celina chose to approach Darwin and Veronica. The girl expressed her excitement by engaging in a conversation with her brother and sister-in-law.
“Welcome to Korea, Kak Veronica. I hope you enjoy your time here.”
In the next moment, Celina briefly hugged Veronica. Shortly after, she turned to Darwin, and then hugged her elder brother tightly, overflowing with the longing she had been feeling.
“Welcome. I’ve missed you so much, big brother.”
Darwin responded with a hug. He even playfully messed up his younger sibling’s hair like a little kid while doing so.
“Aren’t you coming back to Indonesia? You seem really content in Korea.”
“Tsk!” Celina could be heard clicking her tongue. Darwin always asked this question whenever they met or were talking on the phone. For some reason, her older brother still worried and wasn’t fully convinced that she could be independent while staying far away in Korea. After all, Celina was already an adult. She knew what was best for her. “I’m happy here, bro.”
“But here, you don’t have anyone looking after you,” Darwin complained.
“I can take care of myself. Besides, I’m 27 years old. I’m not a toddler or a teenager who constantly needs supervision.”
Darwin wasn’t being excessive. Because he cared so much for Celina, he always worried about her well-being. Especially since she was living alone in Korea. There was no one to look after, protect, or watch over the girl.
“Just let it be, Win,” defended Randy, who overheard the argument between the siblings in front of her. “Why ask her to come back to Indonesia? It’s nicer in Korea, really. And Celina’s career is doing well here too.”
“Don’t act like you know it all, Ran. You don’t know what it’s like to have a little sister like me, do you?”
“Alright… alright…”
Kennedy, who had come downstairs, immediately chimed in. Putting an end to the debate, she led her cousins to the dining area. “I’m so hungry. Can we argue later?”
Darwin sighed heavily. Following Kennedy’s suggestion, he led Veronica to join them at the dining table.
“Veronica, let’s eat first. It happens that we have Chinese food. Darwin said you like Chinese and Japanese food, right?”
At that moment, Veronica turned her gaze towards Darwin. Inside, she wondered and pondered about what her husband had told his cousins. He seemed to know all about her favorite foods.
“Darwin told you all about it?”
“Yes. In fact, a while ago, I came home tired from work and he asked me to buy sushi, saying it was for you because you were sick,” Randy openly joked.
“Sushi? When?” Veronica inquired curiously.
“You know, the other day, right after you entered the house-”
“It’s better if we start having lunch now,” Darwin intentionally interjected, as if not giving Randy a chance to continue her sentence.
Realizing that Darwin was deliberately diverting the conversation, Veronica immediately turned to him, casting a sharp look as if asking for more explanation.
“Win, Randy hasn’t finished telling the story yet.”
“It’s not important anymore. Why would you even listen to the nonsense talk of a one-armed crocodile like Randy.”
“Don’t just casually call me a one-armed crocodile,” protested Randy indignantly. He really hated it when Darwin or Kennedy labeled him with that crocodile moniker.
“No need to pay attention to Randy’s words, Ve.”
From the staircase, Luna appeared, just having come down, and immediately joined in. Pulling out a chair, she sat right next to her husband.
“Randy’s words can’t be trusted. I’ve been blindly deceived by him enough. Just so you know, we even had a fight because Randy gave me information that Kennedy was cheating.”
“Seriously?” Veronica was taken aback by this news.
“Don’t overreact, Luna.”
“But it’s true, right? You called Sandarra Kennedy’s ex-lover.”
“But you didn’t argue, did you? Kennedy confessed, and you even invited her for some private time after the party.”
Luna immediately glared at her husband. How could Kennedy tell Randy about that?
“No, dear. I swear, I didn’t say or tell anything to Randy,” Kennedy retorted, as if understanding Luna’s gaze.
“Alright, let’s just continue eating,” Darwin suggested after seeing the chaos caused by Randy on the table. “If this keeps going, we might end up with a household war.”
Randy laughed heartily in response to Darwin’s remark. Meanwhile, Kennedy seemed quite annoyed by what her cousin, who loved to provoke, had done.
