Chapter 21

For the first time in their marriage history, Veronica and Darwin enjoyed breakfast at the same table with a sense of calm. Veronica herself could see how her husband was devouring the food she had cooked so eagerly.
Perhaps Darwin was starting to embrace his role. The man hardly talked or complained as usual. Instead, he was focused on finishing the chicken porridge in his bowl.
“Unusually voracious, the food suits Mr. Darwin’s taste, huh?”
Renata, who was pouring water by the side, chimed in. She was pleased to disrupt her employer, who was acting oddly this morning.
“Tsk, so many questions,” he replied grumpily.
But instead of being afraid or offended, Renata laughed. She knew very well Darwin’s behavior was often like this.
“Oh, come on, just admit it, Sir. Besides, you’re usually quite hearty when eating something not cooked by Veronica, right? You have a chance now. Don’t want to praise her directly?”
Darwin was speechless. His house assistant enjoyed teasing him so much. Instead of responding, he chose to quickly finish his breakfast.
While Renata switched to Veronica. Pouring milk, the woman then reprimanded.
“Mrs. Veronica, what’s wrong with you? Your face looks a bit pale.”
Veronica shook her head gently. This morning, she did feel her condition was a bit unstable.
“Seriously, do I look pale?”
Renata nodded again.
“Yes, it’s visible. Has Mrs. Veronica been getting enough rest?”
“It seems like it’s because of fatigue. My head also feels dizzy and painful.”
“Does Mrs. Veronica want to take medicine?”
“No need. It will probably go away on its own later.”
Making sure she was alright, after finishing her breakfast, Veronica quickly got up and prepared to leave for work.
Upon arriving at the office, she immediately got busy with work. Alongside Sean, Veronica worked on the deadlines that were waiting. Both of them were assisted by several colleagues who seemed to be discussing seriously. There were many plans that they all discussed for evaluation later on.
“Mrs. Veronica, are you okay?” Sean immediately asked when he noticed Veronica’s unusual movements.
“It’s nothing. My head is just a bit dizzy. Maybe it’s too tense.”
“Has Mrs. Veronica had breakfast? Or would you like me to get you some hot tea?” Sean whispered politely and formally. After all, there were other employees in the room. So, Sean couldn’t act casually.
“Don’t worry,” Veronica replied. “I’m fine. Now, let’s continue discussing this project until it’s finished.”
While Veronica refocused on her tasks, elsewhere Darwin was meeting with Vivian. He deliberately met his girlfriend today to tell her about what Veronica had asked of him. There was no more time. Darwin had to convey and explain things to prevent his girlfriend from getting angry or disappointed.
“So, we’re really going to part ways? We won’t be able to communicate even through phone calls or texts?”
Vivian asked with a sad tone. There was a clear expression of reluctance on her face as Darwin asked her not to communicate with each other.
“Just six months, dear. Besides, I’m doing all of this for you,” Darwin gently persuaded. He tried to explain to his girlfriend.
“Your wife is really mean, huh! It’s so rude to keep us apart like this. So, what am I supposed to do for these six months? I’m not working anymore. And I can’t contact or meet you either.”
Darwin reached for Vivian’s wrist. He gently squeezed it while looking into her eyes.
“Don’t worry, sweetheart. No need to be anxious. If you agree to this plan, Veronica will immediately offer you a job. She even promised to give you a higher position at the new workplace.”
Vivian’s face instantly brightened. Enthusiastically, she responded to Darwin’s words.
“Are you sure I’ll get a job again?”
Darwin nodded.
“100% sure. Even your apartment will be returned. But, the condition is what we talked about earlier. We can’t communicate for these six months. So, I hope you understand. This is for our own good.”
Without hesitation, Vivian nodded in agreement. She thought six months wasn’t such a long time. After all, she and Darwin had already been used to a long-distance relationship. Vivian believed she could get through all of this.
“Okay, I agree. But, when that time comes, I hope you’ll divorce Veronica and marry me right away.”
“Of course. I’ll do that. Right now, the important thing is for you to be patient and go through all of this for our own good.”
After meeting with Vivian and bidding farewell for the time being, Darwin decided to head to the office immediately. Upon reaching the Infinix Group building, he walked quickly to get to his office.
Passing through the lobby, he spotted Veronica who had just come out of the elevator with Sean. They might have been about to go around or leave.
At first, Darwin observed silently. However, the atmosphere suddenly turned panicked when Veronica suddenly leaned against Sean and then passed out.
Darwin, who was there, immediately ran over. He approached and took over his wife to quickly take her to the hospital.
