Laura’s POV

“No need, the maids will clean it up later…”
“Carter!” Cameron spoke seriously, “Laura is your wife; taking care of you is her duty!”
Whether at home or in the company, Cameron has always been decisive. Years of experience have bestowed upon him a naturally commanding presence.
I didn’t want to invite unnecessary trouble, so I obediently squatted down and began to clean up the fragments, piece by piece.
The larger pieces were easy to pick up, but those tiny glass shards could easily cut my hands if I wasn’t careful. Suddenly, I felt a piercing pain in my fingertips, and fresh blood oozed out along the nail edges.
At the beginning of this year, when I accompanied my foster mother to the church to pray for Carter’s well-being, we encountered a fortune teller. The person said I would have a bloody disaster this year, and it seemed he was right…
From last night until now, I have been bleeding.
“How is it? Does it hurt?” Carter hurriedly grabbed my hand, “Stop it, quickly go and bandage it!”
I looked up at him, his gentle face filled with concern for me.
I really wanted to cry. In truth, I didn’t regret marrying him. At least, from childhood to adulthood, Carter had always genuinely cared for me. Thinking about it, my nose tingled, and with the grievances from last night, tears suddenly welled up.
“Who are you trying to impress with this pitiful act?” Cameron walked over, roughly grabbing my collar and pulling me up, “If Mom and Dad find out, they’ll think I’m intentionally bullying you again!”
“You’ve never liked me since we were kids, bullying me has always been a common occurrence, hasn’t it?” I couldn’t take it anymore, glaring at him with indignation, “This time won’t make any of a difference!”
“It looks like that the injury isn’t serious, you can still talk back!”
“Cameron!” Carter probably couldn’t stand it anymore. He reached out and patted him, “Don’t go too far, let Laura go and bandage herself!”
“Go then!” Cameron released his grip on me, “The first aid kit is in my study.”
I turned and ran upstairs.
But I heard him adding from behind, “Hey, don’t go the wrong way. It’s in ‘my’ study!”
He emphasized the word “my” heavily.
I paused for a moment, forcibly suppressing the bitterness in my heart, and pushed open the door to the study.
Cameron’s study was simply furnished, everything neatly arranged. I quickly found the first aid kit, bandaged my finger, and then I noticed that there was a row of upholstered sofas in his study that hadn’t been there before.
He had always paid attention to these home decorations…
However, the sofa, a light beige color, was spacious and soft, seemed quite comfortable.
I sat down. It seemed like it could truly alleviate the fatigue throughout my body.
Leaning back, my head felt a bit dizzy. I really wanted to sleep. Perhaps it was bacause of the recent exhaustion, coupled with the humiliation from Cameron last night, the fear and shock-it all added up to extreme fatigue.
But suddenly, a pair of hands tightly gripped my neck!
I was scared, about to scream, but my mouth was covered.
Cameron’s cold face suddenly appeared in front of me…
He covered my mouth and nose, a suffocating fear churning in my heart. I kicked wildly, hitting his knee, and my hands flailed in the air, accidentally striking him.
“You little bitch!” He released me but immediately delivered a harsh slap.
“Is it bandaged?” He seized my wrist, “Just this minor injury?… And… Did you bleed a lot last night?”
“Cameron!” I growled, “What do you want from me?”
As long as my sister comes back alive, I can seriously consider your proposal.
“You know that’s impossible… It’s impossible!”
“Then be prepared to suffer for a lifetime!” He smirked.
“Laura, you can’t escape The Lynch Family, and you can’t escape me!”
In that moment, I felt a suffocating despair.
