“Can I go with you?”
Seeing his parents in such beautiful clothes, Neo wanted to attend the banquet with them.
But it was a company banquet, not a private one. So, they couldn’t let Neo attend it.
Clara told Neo this and Neo pouted and said he wouldn’t go with them.
Clara felt like laughing as she saw the funny expression on Neo’s face. But she refrained from doing so as she knew Neo would feel sad if she did that.
“Maybe next time, Neo Boy.”
One day, Neo with go with them to a company banquet. It must be the day when Horace announced that Neo was his successor.
Neo nodded with his eyes shining. Then Clara and Horace left hand in hand.
Neo’s eyes tinkled and then he went upstairs to study.
Yesterday Neo had had a day off. Today he should be working on his homework.
It was the first time for Clara to attend a banquet like this. She asked nervously, “Will there be a lot of people on that banquet?”
If so, Clara planned to remain silent and to always wear a smile.
Every single move of her would be witnessed by others. She was afraid that her words would affect the company’s reputation.
“Don’t bother,”
Horace stroked her head and consoled her. But then he fixed his thoughtful eyes on Clara.
“What? Is there anything on my face?”
Clara noticed his eyes. She touched her face to find if there was anything on it.
“Nothing. It’s just… You’re so beautiful,” Horace said lowly and that made Clara flush.
Horace used to express his adoration for her through a joke.
So, Clara didn’t expect him to say such warm words.
“Fine. Just focus on driving.” Clara pushed his hand a bit and then remained silent.
Then she kept asking herself what she should do if there was an emergency or what she should say if someone asked her questions.
Before she could figure it out, they arrived.
Clara got off the car with Horace and then walked into the company arm in arm with Horace.
Their face and move both showed how they loved each other. But there was something different.
They were certainly the focus of today’s banquet. All the guests present turned to look at them as they came in and they kept praising how beautiful Mrs. Kirkland looked and how handsome Mr. Kirkland was.
Clara knew they were just trying to flatter them, but she still smiled at them to greet them one by one.
Horace had always been cold to others so it was quite natural for him to remain silent at this moment.
The guests didn’t expect Horace to smile at them. If he did so, it would be weird.
Horace saw Chester was drinking together with someone else. Then he noticed Horace and then walked over to Horace.
“You look good today, Mr. Kirkland.” His words sounded better than the other guests.
Maybe that was because he did think Horace looked handsome. Or it might because he was good at lying.
“You too, Mr. Saunders.” Horace said slowly, which was completely different from Chester’s gentleness.
“And she is…”
Chester had met Clara before but now he still wanted Horace to introduce Clara to him.
“She is my wife, Clara Hutchinson,” Horace looked at Clara and then said softly.
“It is said that you love your wife so much, Mr. Kirkland. Now I know it is true.” Chester had a glimpse at Clara.
Though Clara didn’t like that man, she still smiled and nodded at Chester.
Now the two companies were in collaboration. As Horace’s wife, she needed to be friendly to Chester.
Horace also smiled and then checked his watch. The banquet was about to begin.
The general managers of the two companies went on the stage to give a speech, showing how important today’s banquet was.
“Thank you for your presence at today’s banquet. The banquet is held to celebrate the collaboration between Solrace and Saunbond…”
These words were often used in an occasion like this. These words were naturally followed by an awfully long speech.
The guests all looked quite excited but Clara didn’t feel happy.
Horace released Clara’s hand and told her to stay here.
Clara felt quite bored and she left the crowd and walked over to Logan.
“You should stay with your man, C.”
Logan greeted his younger sister through a joke. Today Clara indeed looked quite beautiful.
“Not now,” Clara smiled warmly.
When staying with Logan, Clara was not the strong woman anymore but just a little girl, which was quite happy for Logan. After all, it meant Clara did treat him as her elder brother.
“Why would Solrace choose to collaborate with Saunbond?” Logan was confused but he wasn’t willing to ask that question to Horace. So, he decided to ask his younger sister.
“Well, no idea,” Clara didn’t ask Horace that question because she knew Horace must have his own plan.
Then she didn’t have to ask him. The only thing she knew was that Horace wouldn’t fail her.
Logan knew what Clara would say. Then they saw Horace and Chester walked onto the stage.
They first praised each other’s company and then made a few promises.
Clara didn’t like the procedure but she still fixed her eyes on them.
Then they formally announced the collaboration between Solrace and Saunbond before they walked down the stage.
The banquet began to the guests all left where they stood.
Someone also brought their daughter here so it seemed that there were more female than male present at this banquet.
Some girls were observing the boys, who mainly were the staff of the two companies. Since many executives had also attended the event, so people were all trying to mix and broadened their business connections.
All the guests began to do their own business. Clara saw her elder brother and her husband were both talking with someone else.
She thought she’d better not to disturb them.
Luckily, she didn’t sit there alone for a long time. Horace soon got over to her and said, “Do you feel hungry? You can have some fruits first.”
It was already late now and they didn’t have lunch at home. Horace knew Clara must be hungry right now.
“Not at all.”
But Clara knew that it was a bit embarrassing if she were the only one who kept eating amongst those who were talking business.
So, she said those words at looked at Horace, who looked quite serious.
He had been keeping a poker face this evening, which made Clara feel a bit ill at ease. He had never looked that serious in front of her.
But Clara was also clear that he must be doing so because he was talking business.
Clara told herself that she should understand her husband.
