LOVE TANGLE
Life is like different several packages attached to everyone with a blindfold on one’s face. Everyone keeps unfolding it with the least idea of what is in it or what is to come.
So was it for her at the moment. She had never thought of being in a relationship with Reid’s lawyer and not Reid himself.
She knew for sure that she loved him and that he loved her too and she was willing to see what it brings forth while she puts in her effort to make it work.
She turned reluctantly like every other morning in bed at the sound of her alarm. It sounded repeatedly and she groaned, flicking her eyes opened angrily as she sat up.
“Fine, fine! I’m up. You sneaky little…” she stopped when she turned and saw his dark it still was and how quiet her alarm was.
She turned to her side and saw that it wasn’t her alarm but her phone which had stopped ringing when she finally realized.
She picked up her phone and saw the caller to be Kyros. She was about to ring him back when her phone rang again. She was skeptical about picking it at first but she ended up picking it on the third ring.
“Maria,” he said as he smiled at the sound of her name.
She dodged her phone from her ear to check the time and it was just 4 in the morning.
“I have managed and struggled hard enough not to call you earlier than this but I can’t hold it anymore. I miss you so much. So damn much,”
She doesn’t know how to feel about what he had just said. She doesn’t know whether to believe if it was true that he truly missed her as he had claimed to. She was fighting with her inner demon that was choosing to doubt every one of his words.
“Why aren’t you asleep?” she asked as she yawned and laid back in bed.
“I couldn’t sleep. I just couldn’t bring myself to sleep,” he turned in bed with his head resting under his right hand and his left hand holding the phone to his left ear.
“Why couldn’t you sleep?” she pressed and by now, she could feel herself withdrawing from the sleeping realm bits by bits.
“I guess, I just couldn’t get over the excitement of having you. I feel so fulfilled now that you’re mine,” he explained and a slight smile played on her lips.
“That’s so sweet,”
“I guess you don’t feel the same. You don’t feel the excitement of having me since you sleep well like a newborn,”
“You don’t want me to? I thought you love me,” she teased.
“Oh no. Of course, I do. I was only teasing,” his voice sounded a little serious since he had missed the joke.
“I was teasing you myself,” she explained and he heaved a sigh of relief.
“I really don’t wanna mess things up. I don’t want it all to end up like my last relationship,”
“You wanna tell me about it?”
“While on the phone? Do you know how bad I wanna see you?”
“I mean, I wouldn’t know if you don’t tell me,” she answered.
Somewhere in her heart, she felt like they were taking things a little too fast by referring to his past relationship and how bad he wants to see her.
“I wanna ask you. How long have you felt this way about me? Was it yesterday? Was it the day before? Was it now? Was it a long time ago?” she asked, not certain if she was prepared to listen to his honest response or not.
He turned his face up, staring intently at his ceiling as he tried to think deeper about her question.
“You should sleep, Maria,” he said instead and the expectant Maria felt disappointed but she acted cool instead showing that.
“Alright,” she said.
“I love you,” he reassured.
“I love you,” she replied before ending the call.
She turned to drop her phone back by the bedside as she turned from side to side as her mind was clouded with several thoughts. She pulled the duvet up to her chest before her thoughts drifted off to her mum. She hadn’t called her since she got back and that she planned to do at dawn.
She stared far into space, trying to get all thoughts off her mind so she could go back to sleep and slowly, she drifted back to sleep.
****
She yawned and stretched with a groan before finally opening her eyes and immediately shutting them when the sun illuminated her shield. She squinted her eyes before gradually opening them again.
“Why is the sun up so early?” she said to herself as she yawned again.
“But why won’t the alarm wake me?” she said again to herself before finally getting up. She said her prayer and grabbed her phone by the bedside.
She walked to the bathroom and immediately stopped in her track when she checked her phone and it was a few minutes past noon.
“What?” she said with her mouth still wide open.
“Past noon? I slept till past noon?”
“What the fuck?!” she exclaimed before rushing to the bathroom to take her bath.
After she was done, she managed to make a quick breakfast, oats and a little fruit.
As she was done eating and had finished dressing up, her doorbell rang and impulsively, she ran over to get it.
“Hey, Maria,” Kyros said, pulling her in for a hug.
“Hey, Kyros. I wasn’t expecting you,”
“I didn’t hear from you this morning so I decided to come over,” he answered and there seems to be a drop of butterflies in her belly.
“I’m a bit late though,” She retorted as she cleared the plates in the sink but she stopped when he held her hand.
“Maria. I get that it’s a little too soon and you’re probably trying your best to adjust to the new change and adapt to it but could you try more. I just want to feel safe with you and be the one to make you smile. I just want you to be mine with your body and your mind, baby,” he said the heartfelt words that seems to melt her heart away.
“I’m sorry I make you feel like I’m not doing much, Kyros. I love you and I promise I want us to work and of course, we’re going to work,” she managed to say and she stepped forward into his arms, hugging him. He embraced the hug as he wrapped his arms around her with a broad smile on his face.
“You smell so damn nice, boy. I could feast on you right now! Goodness,” she complimented with a brand smile.
“This makes me want to tell you to devour me. I’m all yours, baby,” he said as he stared into her beautiful eyes and slowly, gradually, he moved his head closer, so near to her face that their lips were a few inches apart.
“Fuck! I’m late for work,” she said with an awkward smile as she withdrew from his embrace.
He cleared his throat as he arranged his suit well before waiting on her to be done with whatever she was doing.
She grabbed a glass cup and opened the fridge. She took an apple juice and poured it into the cup.
“Do you care?” she asked.
“I’m good,” he crooked a smile at the edge of his lips. “I’m perfect,” he added.
Maria looked at him with a smile and only then did she notice how well he was dressed. How well he has always dressed and how well he could dress.
“Oh goodness. You’re a fine young man,” she complimented as she raised the cup to her lips, sipping lightly from it.
He walked toward her, standing behind her with the urge to hug her from behind so as to feel the softness of her butt but then, she turned around, crashing into him. She spilt the whole content in her cup on her white shirt as well as his.
“Oh shit! I’m sorry,” she said as she hurriedly took a paper towel to clean him up.
“It’s fine. Where’s the bathroom?” he asked with a genuine smile across his face and she pointed to the bathroom in the living room. While she walked to her room to get change her clothes.
As Kyros cleaned his suit and his shirt, the doorbell rang and he called for Maria to get it but she didn’t respond which left him with no other choice but to get it himself.
He walked shirtless towards the door and as he yanked the door open. He opened and closed his mouth a few times as he looked down at himself. Shirtless.
“Hey, Reid,” he finally managed to say to him. Reid looked astounded at the sight of shirtless Kyros.
“Can you help me with…” Maria stopped in her tracks as she sighted Reid.
Reid walked in and Kyros closed the door.
“What’s going on here?” he asked, still not believing what he was seeing.
