ENDLESS THOUGHTS
“Hello, Maria,” Kyros said with a broad smile across his clean-shaved face.
He was dressed neatly in a grey suit that was perfectly fitted, giving him the legal practitioner look. He looked quite clean with his hair neatly combed backwards.
“Hey, Kyros,” Maria answered with a smile, not knowing what to do otherwise.
“May I come in?” he asked and she looked confused as she was already late for work but it was as well rude to decline the soft request so she asked him in.
“Yes, please,” she replied, turning back into the house. She was dressed for work and he could see that. Of course, he was going to make it quick.
“You have a very nice apartment,” he complimented and she smiled with a nod.
“Not when it was given to you by a pervert who is as well your helper” she thought before answering him.
“Thank you. Couldn’t have been anything compared to your apartment,” she said before settling her bag down on the sofa and he smiled before sitting.
“What should I get you?” she asked him but that seems to not to be why he was here.
“Why don’t I delve into why in particular, I came here?”
“Yeah, yeah. That’s reasonable. It’s quite early for a visitation by a lawyer,” she said with a chuckle before settling down opposite him.
If he had spoken about some rash acts by his client, he had have told him never to bother since she had experienced what he was capable of this morning but his next words blew her off as it was the least of her expectation.
“I might sound too impulsive as we haven’t had the perfect to an extreme time to get to know more about each other but I can no longer evade my feelings towards you, Maria. I might sound unreasonable as my words might be too sudden for you to comprehend the actual emotions behind them but I have never been truer to myself. I want you in my life. I want you to own me as well as a perfect place in my life. I want to be the only reason you look back at everything you’ve ever been through and say to yourself ‘I won’. I want to be the only thoughts that comes to your mind with a smile across your immaculate face. I want to be there for you as you will be there for me. I want you to be the reason I look back at my past and nod in acknowledgement that my efforts were crowned. I want you to be my woman. Just for me,” he said the words calmly and Maria watched as his words danced to the movement of his lips in a synchronised form.
His face held an unexplainable emotion that was quite impossible for her to decipher. She did not know what words was suitable for the sweet words that had just spurred out of his fine lips.
Even though she knew that she needed to say something to him, she could search for any words in the corner of her head to voice out.
Kyros had noticed this and was not willing to pressure her as much as he obviously was dying for her love.
She opened and closed her mouth with no reasonable words forming in it.
“I… Um mm… It’s just…” she fumbled and he stood I his feet.
“Don’t stress it, Maria. I was prepared for any form of reaction from you. I do not want to rush things when it comes to you and am not willing to do that now. I am ready to give you a much time as you want but do not let my heart and soul weary away,” he said before smiling at her and walking away.
She looked endlessly at his retreating back. The way he swayed his hips in a side to side motion which seems to conform to the beat of her heart. It felt like it was racing two times faster than its usual pace.
Kyros looked more downcasted when he got out of her apartment and with a dismayed look evident on his face, he looked back at her closed door for a few seconds before walking off.
As he walked off, Reid walked by and saw his retreating back. With a skeptical look on his face, he wondered why Kyros was coming out of Maria’s apartment early in the morning but then, he decided not to add much thoughts to it as he proceeded to the elevator.
Maria was beginning to lose interest in going to work as she was already too late to begin with. The morning seems to hold several events that she wasn’t even warned about before they unraveled.
She sighed as she picked up her phone to call her mum. She dialled her number but she didn’t pick and the decided to call her dad who as well didn’t pick.
She sat up out of worry as it was never a thing for them not to pick their calls. She dialled their number again and it was the same thing. She got extremely worried as she keot dialling their number but it remained the same thing.
She stood up, pacing around the room. As she was getting deep in her thoughts, her mum’s call came in. She picked it up hurriedly.
“Mum! Why won’t you pick your calls? I was damn worried,”
There was no response at first and she checked to see if the call was still on.
“Mum?” she called with a scared look plastered on her perfect face then the caller sniffed continuously as though they’d been crying.
“Maria,” the caller said which she later found out was her sister. “Mum slumped and had lost consciousness,” she said with a quite teary voice that seems to weaken Maria more.
“What?” she exclaimed as she sank in the chair.
“Whay did you say happened?” she asked again as if she couldn’t comprehend what she had just heard.
“Mum is unconscious,” she refrained and uncontrollable tears rolled down her cheeks before she spoke again.
“When? How?” she was confused, her lips quivered as she spoke. She knew she was meant to rush over or do something other than to sit and ask questions but she couldn’t think straight but to know how it happened.
“I really don’t know, Maria. They said not to tell you but we really do need you. I don’t want mum to die, Maria,”
“No. No. She won’t. I’m coming over now,” she said as if she could get there within a twinkle of an eye. She sniffed and dabbed her face dry. Her sister’s words seems to have brought her back to her senses as she stood up and packed a few things inside her box. She grabbed her bag before hurrying away.
“I’m coming over right now,” she said again before ending the call.
She was not herself anymore as she walked out of the building, oblioviously walking past Reid who was on a call and only sighted her after she had walked past him, he immediately ended the call and walked towards her to at least speak to clear the air about what had happened that morning.
“Maria,” he called after her but her steps were treading briskly towards her car. Reid ran after her, holding her wrist, causing her to halt abruptly.
“Maria. You don’t have to ignore me. I promise you what happened wasn’t an act I had intentionally planned to occur. I apologise,” he said with a sorry demeanor that she noticed and if she wasn’t in a much more emergency situation as she was in, she’d have told him it was all fine but she said otherwise.
She yanked her hand off his hold before speaking.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing right now? You really aren’t reasonable enough to read moods?!” she half screamed, trying to muffle her voice since they were outside.
“Where are you going?” he asked instead, trying to make sure that her words did not hurt him even though they did, badly.
“That is none of your business,” she shunned him before walking away hurriedly and Reid stubbornly followed behind.
As she got to her car and unlocked it, Reid got in even before she did.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Maria asked as she as well stepped into the car and now, she had turned to face him.
“I am going with you to wherever it is until you choose to acknowledge my apology,” he answered with his eyes fixed in front of him.
Maria shook her head out of frustration before surrendering and igniting the car. She knew the time was not right for her to drag things with him, so she just drove and let peace reign at that moment. Reid looked over at her, smiling broadly as if he had won a battle.
She knew that if she wasn’t in a hyper mood at the moment, there was no way she could have faced him after what had happened but she was glad she could still hold her stance to be mad at him.
“You look extremely gorgeous when you’re angry,” he said as she drove and a welcomed silence followed his words.
She stopped abruptly. What was she thinking? She needed to board a plane not drive!!
“What’s going on?” Reid asked with a confused look on his face.
“I don’t know either,” was her plain response.
