I was on the point of twisting the door of Jet’s office when the door handle turned on its own, I stepped back as the door unlocked and Morgana walked out, she shut the door behind her and I waited for her to move away but she didn’t instead she blocked me from reaching for the door.
“Could you please step away from the door?” I asked as politely as I could muster wondering what she was up to. Usually, she’s so eager to be out of my way that is if she is not blithering me about something.
“Jet does not wish to see you” She answered grabbing me by my arm and starting away from the door. “Perhaps I shall tell you all about the heat” That caught my attention and I tried not to let my curiosity get the better of me, I wanted to hear it from Jet and for all people, the last person I’m willing to listen to would be Morgana. I’m even still trying to figure out what her deal is.
I tried twisting my arms free of her grasp to no avail, she’s awfully strong for a girl. “Let me go, I have no interest in whatever you think you want to tell me” I informed her.
She let me go. “Then you did not know how serious this is” She continued. “The heat is very common among our kind, it is part of our nature and you Freya have no idea about our nature. You are human, and you will not be feeling certain things we feel” She paused peering at me.
I folded my arms across my chest while resisting the urge to roll my eyes at her, a habit Jet had managed to kill. “What do you want creature who is not human?” I demanded sarcastically.
“Heat is something that makes soul mates lust after each other, it is our nature to feel such sexual need, we have to go through to be able to mate” She looked at me. “Do you know what mating is? Jet is in heat which is why he is keeping a safe distance away from you” Her voice hardened. “You could not satisfy his sexual needs and birthing his pups?”
I frowned slightly. “Hold on a sec, birthing? Pups? Look, Morgana, I appreciate your concern but I’m a big girl” I turned around to leave but she pulled me back almost making us bump into each other.
“I know you do not trust me but is it not clear enough that he is keeping a safe distance from you? If you were to have sex with Jet now… you will become pregnant” Okay that was the last straw for me and I couldn’t help but gasp in shock.
“Pregnant?” My eyes widened at her.
“Come with me, Claire and I are going hunting, we can both explain mating to you,” She said giving me no choice but to follow her, I had a quick flashback to the last encounter I had with Jet making me realize I hadn’t imagine whatever I saw going on maybe I should tell Morgana I felt the flare of arousal that they consider heat?.
I decided against it immediately, I need to understand what the heat is before I can jump to any conclusion. Claire grinned excitedly at me then frowned as she eyed my dress up and down. “Where is your riding attire?” She required.
“Shall we overlook that? She shall not be doing much so Freya, stay on the horse and look human” She snickered at me before strolling away.
A few minutes later, I was riding behind Claire as we ride into the forest, my mind wasn’t on the hunting however I couldn’t stop thinking about what Morgana told me, even if I didn’t want to believe her, all the signs are there. Claire had mentioned it and Jet started avoiding me, the fact that I’m not supposed to feel the heat but somehow I’m feeling it but more intense anytime I’m close to him.
“Down to earth Freya” Claire’s voice dragged me back to the present making me suddenly conscious of my environment.
“What’s up?” I asked just as Morgana jumped down from the horse carrying her crossbow.
“A deer” Claire answered excitedly and then ran after Morgana probably to see the animal, I frowned deciding whether to go after them or just stay here. I finally decided to stay with the horse since I have no idea about hunting and would be better off not running after a wild animal.
I jumped down from the horse breathing the fresh air of pure nature which is one of the reasons I love being here, I walked over to sit down on the grass, I had barely closed my eyes to relax in nature when one of the horses made a sound, I looked up just as the horse started running off.
On an impulse I dashed after it while calling out to Claire and Morgana, one thing I also noticed was that they didn’t need to tie the horse down when we came to picnic or riding or hunting, they always stayed in place until we are done. I couldn’t help but wondered what had possessed this horse to run away.
My feet caught something and I fell landing on my stomach with a yelp, I made to push myself up but stopped when a hand stretch out in front of me, I followed the direction until I’m standing face to face with Daren.
he grinned then step aside as I stood up on my own without his help. I dust myself off and made to leave and like the first day we met, he grabbed me bringing me to a halt abruptly.
I twirled around to jerk myself away from his hold. “You sure have a habit of grabbing me” I hissed looking around for the sign of the horse.
He chuckled like I said something funny. “Humans are always assuming are they not?”
“Have a nice day” I made to leave again this time he didn’t grab me but somehow I met him standing in front of me, blocking my path. “What do you want?” Then suddenly an idea hit me. “You set the horse on a loose to make me come here didn’t you?” I accused not caring how he did it but somehow I knew he did.
“Guilty milady” He smirked. “Let us talk about the reason why I want to see you” The smile on his face vanished to be replaced by a serious look. “I need your help”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Why would I want to help the likes of you? Judging by the way Jet looked at you, you are the enemy” I reported.
“I do not believe so, Jet could also be tame as the enemy right? I have a reason to believe he brought you here against your will. I could help you if you would also help me, all I need is an honest answer from you” He paused. “The mating season is upon us, do you feel the heat?” He questioned.
“Why would you want to know that?” I couldn’t help but ask, why are they all so bent up to know what she was feeling about the heat?
“That is no concern of yours” He replied forcefully.
“Enough of the chit-chat, her reaction is a clear indication that she does not feel the heat. We should be glad” A new voice interrupted and we both turned to look as Sophie walked out of the shadow of a tree. “Freya” She acknowledged me before turning to Daren. “Humans can’t go through heat” She added then stare at me.
I took a step back. “I don’t even know what the heat is”
“She is telling the truth, she cannot feel it,” Daren told her.
“Good, now let us erase this little confrontation from her mind” It took a while for Sophie’s words to sink in and just as I was about to run off, I felt my head suddenly becoming lighter and lighter until I collapsed on the floor.
Having no idea how long I was passed out, I woke up to the sound of Morgana and Claire shouting at each other, I blinked a couple of times as I tried to get used to the sunshine on my face. “What is going on?” I asked sitting up.
“Which is what we would like to know, why would you wander off without the horse? We met you laying face down in the woods” Claire scolded as she helped me up.
“Humans” Morgana muttered dragging a huge deer towards her horse.
The other horse was back where it was again making me frown, I had no idea what they were talking about. “Can we just go home please?” I groaned.
“After the show, you have displayed with no explanation or apologies I think this shall be the last time you come anywhere with us,” said Morgana as she got on her horse and ride off without Claire and me.
“I don’t know what she was talking about” I muttered to Claire.
“Here let me help you on the horse, do not listen to Morgana she is concerned about your well being” I wanted to snort at her words but what came out Instead was a breathy moan when she touched me.
She stared at me in shock. “You are feeling the heat!” She declared making me freeze in surprise.
