Brian went to shout for Diana to come back, but Jessica stopped him. She looked at him and aggrieved.
“Why do you want her? I have been waiting for you for so long!”
Brian hesitated. Everything was so confusing. He looked at the unfamiliar woman in front of him, wishing he could remember anything about her.
“What happened to me?”
“You had an accident,” Jessica replied vaguely.
As Diana ran away down the corridor, she bumped into Ken.
“What happened?” Ken caught her as she tried to get free from him. She was crying hysterically; something horrible must have happened.
Diana grabbed Ken’s arm with a distraught look and murmured, “Ken, he has no idea who I am. Brian has lost his memory!”
“What? How?”
Overwhelmed by the sheer weight of her emotions, Diana felt herself faint and slowly collapsed to the floor.
Ken just managed to catch her fall. In one swift motion, he picked Diana up in his arms and rushed her to a doctor.
The news that Brian was awake soon spread around the William family.
“What?” Simon William shouted down the phone. He was giddy with excitement.
“What happened?” asked Mrs. Garcia.
“Brian has woken up!” replied Simon. He ran out of the room at once to go and see his son.
Mrs. Garcia was left alone in the room. Her own reaction to the news about Brian was almost exactly the opposite of Simon’s. She immediately called Kyle to inform him of the news.
Kyle was exasperated. He would have been the president if Brian hadn’t woken up!
When Simon arrived at the hospital, Kate was already there, but she didn’t look happy.
“What happened?” Mr. William asked.
Mrs. Grace didn’t answer but burst into tears.
Ken approached Simon and explained in a lowered voice, “Brian has lost his memory.”
“What? Who else knows this information?”
Ken shook his head and answered, “Not many people, just us.”
“Okay.” Simon was at least happy to hear that. But now, the company had serious problems that were waiting to be dealt with. He thought for a while before giving his instructions to Ken.
“Now, I want you to deal with the affairs in the company. Remember, don’t leak the news that Brian has lost his memory.”
Ken promised he would.
Simon glanced briefly at Brian through the window. He couldn’t bring himself to go in, so he turned on his heel and left.
Soon after, Sybil arrived on the ward, moving forward as fast as she could. She was very close to her due date, and her belly was now rather large.
When Ken saw her, he put his arms around her in a protective embrace.
“My princess, are you okay?”
“Where is Brian? What happened?” Sybil was very agitated, desperate to see her brother.
Since she was so far along in her pregnancy, no one had dared to tell her that Brian had an accident. Not until that moment did Sybil even know that he was in the hospital.
Ken pointed Sybil in the direction of Brian’s room. He was about to explain the situation, but Sybil ran inside before he could get his words out.
“Brian, oh my god, are you okay?” Sybil asked fearfully.
“Who are you?” Brian was at a loss when he saw Sybil.
“What the hell?!” Sybil thought.
Ken pulled her back and explained hesitantly, “Sybil, Brian has lost his memory.”
“What?” Sybil cried and hit Ken on his chest.
“This is unbelievable. How could you not tell me before? What if he’d died?!” Ken said nothing; in his heart, he knew Sybil was right.
However, Mrs. Grace could not stand it. She walked towards them and stopped Sybil, “It’s not Ken’s fault. You are pregnant. We had to protect you from the stress.”
Sybil was suddenly reminded of Diana.
“Where is Diana? Does she know about this?”
At that moment, Simon walked in and said to Sybil angrily, “You’d better not mention that woman again!”
Sybil reacted strongly to his words, “Why can’t I mention her? She is pregnant, too. She has Brian’s baby.”
“Shut up. She is a wanton woman. Who knows who the baby’s father is?”
Sybil wanted to defend Diana, but the argument was getting increasingly loud,
so a nurse came in and ushered them out; Brian was still in a fragile state.
As if matters were not confusing enough, Jessica then walked in with a hamper in her hand. She greeted them all politely.
Simon hoped that Brian would never remember Diana, so he said nothing about Jessica’s sudden appearance at his side. As for Mrs. Grace, in order not to distress Brian, she didn’t say anything either.
Looking at the people in the room, Brian thought there should be someone else there, but he had no idea who.
When Diana came to the hospital bed, she was shocked to see her brother, Daniel, standing in front of her.
“Daniel, when did you come back? Why are you home?” Diana asked weakly.
Daniel felt sorry for her but couldn’t help responding with a judgemental tone, “If I was not back, how could I know that you lead such a life?”
“You know everything?” Diana smiled bitterly.
Daniel sighed. “How far along are you?”
“About six weeks.”
“Where is Brian? When are you going to get married?” Daniel was far from happy with Brian’s behavior; he intended to have some serious words with him when they next met.
Diana hesitated. She had no idea how to explain what had happened to Brian. She murmured, “He…he…”
Diana’s explanation was interrupted by her room door swinging open to reveal Sybil’s heavily pregnant figure. She asked with concern, “Diana, are you okay?”
“I’m fine Sybil, I just felt faint earlier, so they brought me here to check me over.”
“How could Brian be like this?” Sybil complained. “He doesn’t even remember you!”
“What?” Daniel exclaimed.
Sybil realized that she’d said too much.
“Diana?” Daniel was angry, but more than that, he was worried. Diana was always like this; she never told him what she suffered, instead choosing to face it on her own.
“Please. Don’t…don’t say anything,” Diana begged.
Daniel kept quiet. He let out a heavy sigh and then left to give Diana and Sybil some space.
“Diana, don’t worry. He will remember you. It’s just a matter of time.”
Diana gave Sybil a smile to make her feel at ease. However, deep in her heart, all she felt was despair.
Looking at Diana, who was clearly in a bad way, Sybil had no idea what she could say to comfort her. If she experienced this, she knew she could never be as strong as Diana.
