Brian drove Diana and Carol to the nearest restaurant, still unsure how to handle the odd situation.
After what had happened, Carol was still too embarrassed to face Diana and Brian.
Diana tried to comfort her, “It’s okay. You can help us by asking your father to invest in Brian’s company. That would be great.”
Brian nodded. “I am exhausted after handling all the issues in the company for the past few days. Your father’s withdrawal was rather unexpected.”
Carol felt truly sorry for what she had done. Looking at Diana, she smiled.
The positive atmosphere was short-lived, however, as Brian suddenly recalled where he had been when he received Carol’s call.
“Sybil’s press conference is happening right now. I just left her there and ran out!”
“What?” Carol was shocked. Having been reunited with her childhood friend, Carol had thrown away all her jealous thoughts. Now, Diana’s trouble was also her trouble.
“Go back to her,” Diana said firmly. It was the first time that Sybil had been given some responsibility after coming back. Diana worried that she might not be experienced enough to handle it well, which would likely create further problems for Brian’s business.
Brian was also worried about Sybil and knew he had to go back.
“Come on, I will look after your girlfriend,” said Carol.
“That’s what I’m worried about,” Brian uttered coldly.
Still, despite the day’s events, he believed that deep down, Carol wasn’t a bad girl. He took one last look at them both before rushing off to his car.
And then, Diana was left alone with Carol in the restaurant. As one would expect, they had a lot to catch up on.
“Li, why did you leave without sending me a message?” Diana asked. The Jefferson’s had moved away so quickly. Hence, Diana had lost all contact with Carol since then.
Recalling their move, Carol was also regretful. “My father’s business developed well, and he took us to another city. It happened really fast, I just didn’t have the chance to tell you,” Carol answered sadly.
Carol paused to sip her drink for a moment before continuing, “So you were starting to tell me before about Daniel, is he okay?”
“Daniel? Yeah, he is good. Can you imagine, Brian mistook me for Daniel the first time that we met?”
“Really?” Carol was interested in Diana’s romantic stories with Brian.
Thus began a long, happy conversation, as the two girls chatted cheerfully, happy to be back together again.
Back at Kyle’s office, Antonette pushed open the door and walked in. To her surprise, Kyle wasn’t as happy as she had expected. In fact, he looked rather worried.
“What’s wrong?”
Kyle shot Antonette a nasty look, then threw the contract at her.
“Take this back to Mrs. Garcia.”
“What happened, Kyle?”
“I don’t know,” he replied bluntly.
This was the extent of their conversation before Kyle gestured for Antonette to leave.
She stormed out of his office in anger. Kyle never regarded her as his partner, and he wouldn’t utter a word of his plan to her. Biting her lip, Antonette promised herself that she would show everyone who had ever looked down on her, including Kyle, what she was capable of doing.
Kyle was struggling to comprehend the recent events. What the hell was going on? Carol should hate Diana. And Diana should hate Carol! Yet they looked so close. What had happened? Kyle was desperate to call Carol to find out, but he worried they might still be together. All this made Kyle quite exhausted.
Immersed in their conversation, Diana and Carol lost all track of time. They didn’t part with each other until Brian called Diana and asked her to go back home.
After sending Diana off in the taxi, Carol recalled that she was supposed to have met with Kyle hours ago! She took out her phone immediately and noticed there were no missed calls. Still, she called Kyle at once.
Seeing Carol’s name on the screen, Kyle calmed himself down and picked up. “Hello?” he uttered in a gentle tone.
“Hi, Kyle. I was held up by something earlier, I’m so sorry.” Carol felt terrible. She guessed Kyle must have waited for her for a long time.
Naturally, Kyle was furious. He had lost the perfect chance to destroy Brian with the contract. But now, the most important thing was to get the Jefferson’s help. Kyle suppressed his fury and uttered, “It’s okay.”
“I am downtown now if you still want to meet?” Carol asked hesitantly.
“Okay. Wait for me, I will come soon.”
When Kyle showed up, Carol was still getting over what an idiot she had been.
Sitting in Kyle’s car, she explained to him, “Kyle, Diana was my best friend when I was a little girl.”
As Kyle was contemplating her story, his silence made Carol think that she had really done something stupid.
“Kyle, do you think I am a bad person?”
Kyle shook his head immediately. “Of course not, why would I think that?”
With a loving look, he gazed at Carol and said, “In my mind, you are an amazing person, no matter what.”
Carol was a proud girl. But she didn’t have much experience in love. She was used to doing what her parents asked, and that was why she hadn’t rejected the idea of her engagement with Brian. But this was the first time a man had spoken so lovingly to her.
“I asked you to wait for me because I was worried you might make a wrong choice,” Kyle added.
Carol looked at him, gratefully. “Kyle, you are so nice.”
Kyle drove Carol back to her house but made no further moves. He knew he had to take it slowly if he wanted to earn her love.
Carol’s parents were waiting for her on the couch when she got in. Seeing Carol bounce in with quick, happy steps, Mrs. Jefferson is sure that her daughter is in love.
Without hesitation, Carol turned to her father, “Papa, I think you should reinvest in Brian’s company.”
Mr. Jefferson was confused. “I thought you wanted me to stop cooperating with him?”
“Please, just invest in his company again!” Carol said sweetly.
As always, Mr. Jefferson couldn’t reject his daughter’s request. Besides, it wouldn’t cause any damage to him if he put his money back into Brian’s company. “Okay, sweetheart, I promise you I will reinvest.”
Carol laughed happily and went away, cheerfully to her bedroom.
Mr. Jefferson was confused and asked his wife, “What’s wrong with her? Why is she always changing her mind?”
“You never know what a girl thinks when she is in love,” Mrs. Jefferson replied mysteriously.
