Chapter 121: It’s Not Funny

Book:Billionaire's Cure For Love Published:2024-6-4

“You… are Brian’s sister?” Diana still couldn’t believe it, but the more she thought about it, it did make sense.
If Sybil was really Brian’s girlfriend, she would have behaved more obediently in Grace’s home. And some of their intimate actions were actually nothing more than a caring gesture between siblings.
Even what Brian had just said to Sybil indeed had no hint of ambiguity, it was merely the concern of an older brother.
Meanwhile, Carol was trapped in a state of infinite embarrassment. She knew that she had completely lost face.
After all, a man like Brian hated women who would fight jealousy like that for him. And Carol’s jealousy this time was completely misplaced. How could she be jealous of Brian’s sister?
Before Carol could say anything, Diana began to speak.
She was actually a little angry about Sybil’s deception.
“Miss William, I think you owe Miss Jefferson and me an apology.”
Diana’s comment made everyone pause, including Brian.
“What do you mean?” Brian asked sulkily.
“I’m sorry, but it’s true. Miss William duped me into believing you two were a couple from the moment I entered. She did not introduce her relationship with you or call you brother so as to make me fall for it. I don’t appreciate being deliberately misled like that.”
Sybil’s face clouded for a moment, but she was sensible, and of course, knew Diana was right.
She realized then that Diana was not simply trying to support Carol, she was actually angry about the joke. So, Sybil decided to take the initiative.
“It’s my fault, and I sincerely apologize. But this was my own idea. Don’t blame my brother.”
As Diana was already rather fond of Sybil, upon hearing her apology, she immediately forgave her, and replied embarrassedly, “In some way I understand, you just wanted to see our true characters. I should also apologize for being rude just now.”
Sybil was also quite taken with Diana, and wearing a big smile, skipped over to hold Diana’s arm.
“So, can we be friends?”
Diana was almost flattered. She quickly replied, “Of course! I would love that.”
Seeing their cozy relationship, Carol was filled with anger and regret.
Brian had had enough of all the friendliness and warmth and interrupted them flatly, “That’s enough. Sybil, isn’t it time for you to rest?”
“Come on, Brian! You are better than this! Are you even jealous of me?” Sybil hit back.
“Excuse me?!”
Brian flushed and got a little exasperated, gruffly replying, “What do you mean ‘jealous of you’? You watch your tongue, Sybil!”
Sybil had expected her brother’s response. “Just kidding. Don’t take it so seriously,” she replied with a chuckle.
“It’s not funny.”
“Whatever you say.”
At the same time, Carol was unable to tolerate it anymore.
“It suddenly occurred to me that I have an appointment later today, so I’m afraid I have to take my leave.”
Brian had already forgotten Carol was there. Still, there was a certain feeling of regret in his heart that stopped him from being too ruthless with Carol.
“I’ll get Ken to take you back.”
Unfortunately, all Brian’s offer did was to reignite the hope in Carol’s heart. Maybe Brian still cared about her?
“Thank you, that’s very kind. Goodbye, everyone.”
Carol glanced up at Brian as she said her farewell, hoping he would ask her to stay. However, Brian did not fulfill her hopes.
“OK, bye then,” he said.
Sybil walked over to Carol and apologized, “I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean what I said.”
The deception she’d suffered at Sybil’s hands gave Carol a poor impression of her. However, she had no choice but to suffer in silence. After all, Sybil was Brian’s only sister. It would be wise not to offend her, or else she would have a very hard time once she and Brian were married.
“I’m fine. I know you were just playing a joke. By the way, I meant to say earlier, but you look gorgeous today.”
Not giving her motives much thought, Sybil was happy to hear Carol’s compliment. “Thank you. You are also beautiful.”
It seemed Sybil would continue talking endlessly with Carol, so Brian coughed gently to get her attention.
Sybil got his warning and was forced to stop chatting.
“Anyway, since you have something to do later, it’s probably best you get going, it’s getting dark outside.”
Carol had hoped to build a good relationship with Sybil that day; however, it seemed Sybil couldn’t stand her.
“Well, it was nice to see you. Hopefully, we can do it again,” Carol replied.
Brian, meanwhile, didn’t spare her more than a glance during the whole conservation.
After Carol left, Sybil breathed a sigh of relief. There was a faint smile on her face as she blurted out, “Brian, you have a “great” fiancée.”
Brian frowned at her in response, so Sybil instead turned to Diana with a big smile and said, “Let’s hang out a bit?”
Diana gladly agreed, and Brian was very happy to see Diana and Sybil might become friends.
A sincere, heartfelt smile spread across his face when looking at the two girls leave together.
