Chapter 33

We made our way to Logan’s office and I could feel the happiness radiating off Greg.
“I’m happy for you,” I said softly and he gave me a small smile.
“Thanks Charlie,” he said, “I honestly didn’t think I would ever find my mate but here she is. Thank you for that.
“Why are you thanking me?”
“Well if you never came along then you wouldn’t have met Jake and I wouldn’t have met Diana.”
At the mention of Jake my smile fell a bit but I forced it back up. If being with Jake means that Greg and Diana are happy then it’s all worth it.
“Well in that case you’re very welcome.”
“Are you okay?” he asked and I nodded, “Don’t bullshit me, I saw that frown.”
“I just wonder when I’ll find my mate,” I lied and he let out a sigh.
“Everything will turn out fine in the end.” He said and I gave him a small nod, “Now let’s see what your Alpha wants.”
He pushed the door to Logan’s office open and I saw Logan sitting in a chair with Jake sitting across him. I didn’t want to sit anywhere near Jake and as if Greg noticed he sat beside him and left the other chair for me.
I sat down ignoring the daggers Jake was throwing at me with his eyes and focused on Logan even though his gaze that currently seemed to be sliding from Jake to me wasn’t any less intense.
“First of all, I just want to say congratulations,” Logan began and Greg gave him a short nod in response, “It actually makes what I have to say a lot easier for me but first I have a question for you.”
If Greg was as confused as I was he didn’t let it show.
“Diana is like my sister and while I’m overjoyed that she found her mate, I can’t just give her to you when I don’t know anything about you,” Logan said but Greg’s impassive expression didn’t change, “I don’t know anything about your family but I know that you’re not a rogue; you walk with too much elegance and pride to be one.”
“No one can walk with as much pride as an Alpha,” Greg retorted but his expression didn’t change, “Fine, ask whatever you want and I’ll answer.”
“What pack are you from?”
“I don’t have one; I was never officially inducted into any pack so I’m a lone wolf.” He said.
“Where is your family?”
“My family is Charlie and a certain Luna who so happens to be enjoying herself with her mate,” he replied with a humorless smile, “You need to ask the right questions Alpha or you won’t get the answers you’re looking for.”
“Fine then; tell me what you think I need to know.”
“Now you’re talking,” he said, “My father is Alpha Hunter; I was his bastard child and he wanted to kill me but I got away and I haven’t seen him in years.”
“Is this some kind of soap opera?” Jake asked and I remembered he was here, “You’re both running from the same Alpha.”
“Believe me I was as surprised as you were when I got the call that I needed to take her in.”
“How did the both of you meet?” Logan asked and Greg frowned.
“We met through a mutual friend, she helped us both get out of our messy situations,” he began and Logan looked like he was going to say something but Greg cut him off, “Don’t ask because I won’t tell you who she is. I owe her that much for all she risked for both of us.”
“Fair enough,” Logan said, “I have an offer for the both of you,” he gestured to Greg and I, “But only if you’re willing to accept it.”
Greg turned to me in a silent question and I shrugged. I have no idea what he is talking about.
“I would like for the both of you to join this pack,” he said and my eyes widened.
“It’s not that I’m complaining,” Greg began, “But what brought this up because I know it isn’t a spur of the moment kind of thing.”
“Diana is his mate and she is a very social person and while she would be willing to move to the ends of the earth with you; a certain part of her will always long for the pack life. I’m doing this for her,” he said to Greg then he turned to me, “I have my reasons for wanting you to join this pack; reasons I won’t disclose for now.”
“But what would happen if Alpha Hunter comes looking for me?” I asked and he looked me in the eye before replying.
“I protect my pack members Charlotte; don’t ever forget that.” He then turned to Greg, “So what do you say?”
“I’ll be more than happy to move here,” he said then added softly, “Thank you.”
“The pleasure is all mine.”
Greg gave him a small nod then he grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the office.
“I can’t believe that just happened,” I whispered, “You get to be with your mate and I get to see you every day. That’s amazing.”
“What’s up with you and the Beta?” he asked and I frowned. He really doesn’t beat around the bush.
“What are you talking about?”
“The tension between the both of you was so thick I could cut it with a knife,” he said, “Now tell me what’s wrong?”
“We’re just having a disagreement,” I lied, “It’s nothing to bother yourself with.”
He lifted my arm and pulled my sleeve down so quickly that I barely had time to protest, “What is this?”
“Forget about it,” I said pulling my hand out of his grip, “It’s not what you think and don’t grab me like that.”
“You seem to? forget that you can’t lie to me,” he said, “I saw the way you started rubbing at your wrists the moment you saw him so you better tell me what the hell is going on.”
“It’s not what you think; we just like to experiment sometimes.”
He leaned closer into me and sniffed my skin, “That’s a lie because if you liked to experiment as you say, you would smell like him,” he said, “Now I’m going to ask again; what the hell is going on?”
I let out a small sob and he let go of me immediately.
“Shit, I’m sorry,” he said as he pulled me into a hug, “I never should have yelled at you and I’m sorry.”
“I can’t tell you what’s going on right now but I will,” I said softly, “But I promise that it’s not anything I can’t handle.”
“I don’t care if you can handle it,” he spat, “That bastard isn’t staying anywhere near you.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re going back with me to the town.”
“What?”
“I’ll tell the Alpha that I need you to come back with me to help me pack my stuff and wrap up my affairs,” he said, “But I’m not leaving you with that bastard when I can’t protect you.”
“Okay,” I nodded and he gave me a small smile.
“Now come on; let’s go give Diana the good news.”
