Warren picked up Chris and asked, “What did she do this morning?”
“She was trying on clothes. She mentioned she’ll be performing in a show tonight.”
“What kind of performance?” Warren realized that since their “cold war,” he had become less and less informed about her activities and now had to rely on Mrs. Brown for updates.
Meanwhile, Penelope was quite content. After studying at the library in the morning, she returned home for lunch. The smell of steak wafted from the kitchen.
“It smells delicious. I’m going to eat a lot today,” she exclaimed, dropping her bag and heading into the kitchen.
Mrs. Brown smiled and cautioned, “If you eat too much, you might not fit into your dress tonight.”
Penelope immediately remembered and said, “Oh, right, I shouldn’t overeat.”
Mrs. Brown suggested, “If you’re hungry, have a bowl of soup first.” She placed a bowl of soup beside Penelope.
“Thanks.”
Warren walked downstairs carrying Chris, who had just woken up. The little one seemed a bit dazed but incredibly cute. Penelope walked out of the kitchen and couldn’t resist capturing his adorable moment with her phone.
Chris struggled to open his eyes, and his tiny hand waved in Penelope’s direction.
Warren reached out and handed him to Penelope, saying, “Go on, let your mom hold you.”
Penelope cradled him and said, “Baby Chris, what have you been eating? You’re so heavy!”
“Mom’s talking to you,” Penelope gently poked his little arm. His head completely drooped onto Penelope’s shoulder, and he fell asleep.
“He didn’t sleep well. Why did you take him out?” Penelope looked at Chris, who appeared quite sleepy and blamed Warren.
Warren took a sip from his teacup and replied, “Lately, he hasn’t been keen on sleeping in his bed. He can only fall asleep in someone’s arms.”
Penelope kissed Chris’s face gently and said, “That’s nonsense. Chris isn’t that delicate.”
Warren didn’t respond. After all, he had seen Penelope coming back upstairs, so he picked up his peacefully sleeping son.
Lunch was ready, and Mrs. Brown was preparing to set the table.
Penelope placed Chris in the cradle, but as soon as he touched the quilt, he began crying.
“Hey, baby Chris, don’t try to get me into trouble,” Penelope warned him, pointing at him.
Chris continued to cry, “Woo woo…”
“Alright, I’ll hold you while I eat lunch,” Penelope conceded and took him to the dining room.
Balancing Chris in one hand and a fork in the other, Penelope struggled through her meal. The tricky part was that during lunch, she tried various ways to signal for help, but Warren, on the other side, pretended to ignore her and enjoyed his food.
She managed to eat only two small pieces of steak, while the rest ended up in Warren’s stomach. Angrily, she put down her fork and decided to have some soup. Meanwhile, Chris was sleeping soundly in his mother’s arms.
Once Penelope was full, she carried Chris upstairs. They lay on the bed for about five minutes, but then Chris woke up.
“No…” Penelope lamented.
Chris waved his hands and feet, clearly not interested in going back to sleep.
“Baby, sweetheart, can you go to sleep?” Penelope, feeling drowsy after lunch, patted his little back and tried to soothe him. However, Chris remained awake, his eyes darting around.
Warren was getting ready for a nap when Penelope burst into the room with Chris.
“Here, it’s your turn,” Penelope handed over their energetic little one. Then she lay on the bed, pulling the quilt over her head. Chris looked at Warren and giggled.
Warren smiled and carried Chris to the study while scolding him gently, “Did you annoy your mom? Let’s head to the study and read some documents…”
With them gone, Penelope could finally catch a nap.
Around three o’clock in the afternoon, Penelope got up, washed her face, and sat in front of the dressing table, ready to do her makeup.
Warren entered the room with a sleeping Chris and placed him in the cradle. He glanced at Penelope’s face and advised, “Remember, those are all chemicals. Try to use less.”
Penelope gave him an annoyed look in the mirror.
Warren raised his right hand playfully, and Penelope immediately covered her head with her hands. He chuckled and went to bed.
Penelope snorted and happily began applying makeup. She had some knowledge of various things, including makeup, although she wasn’t an expert. Her makeup skills were above average, and she had learned them from her part-time job.
Moreover, since she had been with Warren, the skincare and beauty products she used were of high quality. She opted for a simple but stylish makeup look. Her hair was casually styled into a cute half-bun. She chose a see-through gauzy outfit that added a touch of charm without being flashy.
“Woo…” Baby Chris in the cradle started crying.
Penelope walked over, gently patting his little shoulder, and soothingly said, “Chris, don’t cry. Mom is here…”
Suddenly, a pair of hands tightly wrapped around her waist.
“My wife, you look so beautiful. Who are you trying to seduce?” He closed his eyes, seemingly still half-asleep.
Penelope was startled by his actions. She said, “Let go of me. Don’t wrinkle my skirt…”
His hand moved from her breast, tracing along her smooth waistline.
Penelope trembled and bit her lip. “Calm down.” Then, he removed her tattoo stickers and stuck them onto Chris’s cradle.
Her face turned red, and she felt strangely embarrassed.
“Change into a different outfit,” his breath tickled her ear.
Penelope quickly regained her composure and retorted, “You have no right to control what I wear!”
Warren responded, “You’re my wife.”
“We haven’t even obtained the marriage certificate yet!” She hurriedly clarified.
In an instant, the atmosphere turned cold. Penelope suddenly remembered that the reason for their cold war was her marriage to another man.
“Warren,” she cautiously turned her head to look at his expression.
He let go of her hand and left with a cold expression.
“Oh… I have an hour of free time, so you can do whatever you want,” she mumbled behind him.
When the door closed, he was truly gone.
“So stubborn…” Penelope pouted, removing the tattoo sticker from the cradle and sticking it back on.
Penelope went downstairs and handed Chris to Mrs. Jones. She looked around, but Warren was nowhere to be found.
Penelope had to admit that she had been quite effective at making Warren angry.
