Chapter 63: Act Quickly

Book:A Night With The Billionaire Published:2024-6-4

Everyone knew old Mrs. Duncan’s attitude toward Phillip. This time, she was so generous. The old Mr. Duncan was definitely in a bad condition.
“Then…” Penelope bit her lips. It was difficult to speak out.
“If my grandfather has to live like this, I’m sure Uncle Warren won’t be able to leave. If my grandfather is really… if there is one day, then there will be many things for him to deal with. What will you do then?”
Asher was definitely her true friend. He instantly guessed what she was thinking.
“If I wait any longer, I will certainly not be able to board the plane,” Penelope said with awkwardness.
A long-distance flight was very tiring. In addition, for a pregnant woman of over seven months, if there was any discomfort after a bump, she would probably give birth to the baby on the plane early.
“Yeah, your physical condition won’t allow it,” Asher said.
“Okay.”
“Or can you come back ahead of time?” Asher proposed.
“Ahead of time?”
“Why do you have to wait for Uncle Warren to pick you up? You can also come back by yourself. I’ll ask Uncle Warren’s assistant if his private jet is available.” Asher immediately called the assistant.
“Hey, I didn’t tell your uncle. Why are you in such a hurry?”
“I’ll tell him, and you pack your things up.”
“Are you serious?”
“I’m telling you, Penelope, act quickly! Don’t you want to see your man?” Asher hung up and turned to Warren’s assistant.
Penelope stood there holding the phone, stunned.
Nevertheless, she really wanted to see Warren and accompany him as soon as possible. She had to agree with Asher’s plan.
She did not worry about what Daisy said, that she could not marry into his family even when her child grew up. She only wondered if he had slept well and missed her.
Marrying him had never been one of the reasons she wanted to be with him.
It was love that mattered to her.
The old Mrs. Duncan sat in the lounge. The doctors explained the situation to her in turn.
They had tried their best, but the organs of old Mr. Duncan were debilitating. They could not help.
Warren pushed open the door and saw the doctors looking at him with bitterness. He nodded and said, “Thanks for your hard work. Please go take a rest.”
The doctors rushed out, leaving him and old Mrs. Duncan.
“When I was young, I always cursed him to die in front of me. Now, this day is really coming, I can’t stand it,” old Mrs. Duncan bowed her head and wiped her tears with her handkerchief.
“It’s not the last day, don’t be too pessimistic.”
“You don’t have to comfort me. I am clear about his situation these days. He does not have much time,” old Mrs. Duncan sighed. She had been wilting recently.
“We are trying our best. If we can’t do it, the outcome is not something we can control,” Warren gently said.
Old Mrs. Duncan looked at him amiably. “These days have been hard for you. You have stayed in the hospital for whole days, and you have thinned down a lot.”
“I don’t want to have regrets.”
Old Mrs. Duncan nodded and said, “Let Phillip come in. I have something to ask him.”
“He is suffering as much as I am, so don’t bother him.”
“I won’t bother him. It’s something within his ability.” After being upset for some time, she became level-headed again.
He said, “If it’s something about company shares, you don’t have to say it.”
Old Mrs. Duncan glanced at him. “You’re so keen.”
With a smile, he said, “What you are worried about is just a matter of property distribution after my father’s death. It is not difficult to guess.”
“Yes, I am worried about this problem,” Old Mrs. Duncan admitted.
“According to my father’s will, Phillip should get something.”
“What if he voluntarily gives it up?” Old Mrs. Duncan smiled slightly contemptuously.
He passed her a cup of water. “How are you going to force him to give up?”
“This is not your business.”
“I’m his elder brother. This is also my business.”
“You are my son,” Old Mrs. Duncan said with emphasis and stared at him. “I’m planning for you.”
“I am a man. I can earn for myself. I don’t want to depend on inheritance.” It seemed that he did not intend to give in.
“Why are you always biased towards Phillip and his mother? You are my son!” Old Mrs. Duncan pounded the table angrily.
Warren quickly explained, “He deserves his share. All I do is for the sake of my father.”
“Your father? When he betrayed our marriage and abandoned you and me, did he think of it for us?”
“That’s his business. I can’t control it.”
“Warren!” Tendons stood out from old Mrs. Duncan’s forehead.
Warren sat beside her and held her hand. “Mom, can’t you believe me?”
“What are you talking about?”
“If you believe me, forget about it.” Warren smiled. Though he was tired, he still kept the elegant demeanor of a master.
Old Mrs. Duncan thought it over. She admitted that he was right.
Her son was much more reliable than her husband, “Forget about it? It’s a few hundred million dollars.” Old Mrs. Duncan relaxed her tone.
“Phillip helps me a lot. The benefits he has created for the company are more than a few hundred million. Killing the goose that lays the golden eggs is not the way to do business.”
“Fine… you beat me.” Old Mrs. Duncan was relieved, but she still kept a look of helplessness.
The mistress’s son was only working for her son. After all, Old Mrs. Duncan won.
Warren knew what she was thinking, but he didn’t debunk her, as it would lead to another argument.
He also understood how his mother might threaten Phillip. His father’s situation wasn’t optimistic. If the day came, whether Phillip could attend the memorial service depended on old Mrs. Duncan. If she refused, how could he be there?
He knew his mother was more ruthless than anyone else.
“Bro,” Phillip stood up and looked toward the door.
“Go back and get some rest. It’s all right here.” Warren pulled open the door and closed it.
