She pushed the door and quickly got out of the car. Then she bought something and ran back quickly. “Scotchtails, do you eat them?” Penelope asked as she hopped in the car.
The driver shook his head. “When I was young, I ate too much, and now I have no interest at all.”
Penelope nodded and said while eating, “I ate once when I was a child, but after that, I left with my mother.”
“Where did you go?”
“New York, to find my dad.” Penelope sniffed the scotchtails on her hand and said, “Unfortunately, my dad had already fallen in love with another woman.”
The driver fell silent.
“I don’t understand why my mother had to give up everything here to chase a man. How wonderful it is here. If I had lived here, I would have…” Penelope wiped away tears from her eyes and said, “Then I would have gone to all the schools that we visited just now one by one, and finally, I would have been admitted to a college.”
The primary school is on Church Road. The secondary school lies on Brereton Road, and the university lies on High Road. If she had stayed here and didn’t go to New York, she would have been walking on such a path.
The driver didn’t know what to say to comfort her, but he thought of a place that she would definitely love.
Penelope came out of the Crystal Palace Triangle. Her head, neck, and wrist are all wearing a variety of accessories, and she still has all sorts of gadgets in her hands. She looked tickled pink.
“It’s so interesting here. Next time I have to walk around the rest.” Penelope said excitedly, with a bottle of organic fruit in her hand.
The driver smiled and said, “It’s time to go back, or we’ll miss dinner.”
“Okay!” Penelope strode forward with a satisfied smile.
She sometimes felt depressed, but kind-hearted people always lifted her spirit.
This world is never pure black or white.
Destiny deprived her of many things, but fortunately, she is left with a heart that can fight against doom.
On the way back, they are caught in a traffic jam. Today is December. 31. Many people are preparing to celebrate the New Year in the shopping district.
Blocked on the road, they can’t move.
This feeling really sucked. Penelope lowered the window and turned her head to see a dark mass on the roadside.
“Hey, do you see what that is?” Penelope pointed to a group of suspected creatures on the side of the road and asked.
The driver has good eyesight. He recognized it as a stray dog at a glance.
The traffic slowly moved, but Penelope pushed the door and ran down.
“Miss Seinfeld…” The driver shouted. Penelope crouched down and picked up the dog. Its eyes are bright and scary. Whispering, its eyelids begin to droop. It seems that it is about to die.
The cars behind them keep honking, and the entire street is filled with violent horns.
Penelope got in the car with it and said, “We have to go to the hospital.”
The driver pressed the accelerator and said, “No pets are allowed at home. You need to get it somewhere suitable outside the house even if you take it back.”
“Why? It’s so small, it won’t occupy a big place.” The dog’s fur felt silky, but it is undeniable that it smelled terrible.
“Mr. Duncan doesn’t like pets. He won’t permit it.”
Penelope bit her lips, holding the shivering puppy in her arms, saying, “We’ll go and have it checked first. I suspected it had an injury on its feet.”
The consultation fee of a veterinarian is not cheap. Penelope had not brought much money, so the driver helped to pay for it.
“I will pay you back.” Penelope smiled awkwardly.
The driver hastily said, “You had better think about how to dispose of it.”
Penelope looked at it through the glass window. The dog kept looking at her with its eyes half-closed.
“Poor little….” Penelope sighed through the window. “I’ve already started my new life, but you…”
At the door of the house, Penelope kept holding the white dog. The veterinarian helped clean it and discovered that it was not a black dog but a small white dog. It is only three months old.
“You really want to bring it into the house?” The driver stared at the dog in evident embarrassment.
“It’s injured. Let us keep it until it recovers,” Penelope uttered earnestly.
The driver was worried, “How will you persuade Mr. Duncan?”
“Um…. It’s a bit difficult.” Penelope got stuck.
Obviously, Warren Duncan never easily changes his mind.
The butler clearly saw the car coming in, but nobody entered the house. He pushed the door and knocked on the window of the car tentatively.
Penelope immediately hid the puppy in her arms with a scarf.
“Have you eaten yet?” asked the butler, smiling.
Getting out of the car, Penelope bent over on her back, “I’m hungry, a little stomach ache.”
“Please go to have dinner, your meal is ready.”
“What about Mr. Duncan?”
“He is watching TV in the living room.”
Penelope nodded and walked into the house, stooping.
The butler looked at a string of things on her body and said to himself with a smile, “She must have enjoyed herself.”
The driver quietly parked the car in the garage, and he chose to say nothing.
Penelope sneaked upstairs with something in her arms, like a thief, regardless of the man in the living room.
“Wait.” Warren put down the cup and stared at her.
Penelope stopped and coughed, “You’re back? I’ll go upstairs and put these things away…”
“Where did you go?”
“Just look around.”
“At this very late?”
Penelope looked down at the burden on her arms. She is afraid that the little thing will die in her own hands because of being muffled for a long time.
“Ah, my stomach is really hurting…” She bent over and leaned against the baluster, “I’m going to lie down for a while, so uncomfortable…”
Before Warren could react, she ran away without looking back.
Entering the room, she quickly pulled the scarf away. The little white dog looked at her timidly, completely motionless. It doesn’t make a sound though being wrapped. It seems to know that they are both in trouble.
