Out of my married life

Sophia’s POV
Mr Prescott paused mid stride and she sidled up to him with a bright smile and a possessive hand on his arm.
“I didn’t know Daphne had business here.” Eliza commented idly, her razor sharp gaze on Daphne.
“Me neither. She turned down your husband’s deal, right?” Jill responded, seemingly perplexed.
“Yeah, something about keeping her focus on the American market.” Eliza said but I could barely hear what they were saying.
How could I when my gaze was focused on Mr Prescott?
He was smiling at Daphne and her hand was still on his arm.
Mr Prescott was only my business partner. Once this deal was done and over with, we would have nothing to do with each other.
I had no reason to care about the fact that Daphne was doing her very best to get as close to Mr Prescott as possible and he was letting her.
It might have been a moment or an hour later when people began to take to the dance floor.
I watched as Mr Prescott led Daphne onto the dance floor and jealousy bloomed hot and heavy in my chest. So much so that I could barely see straight and my grip on my juice tightened.
I’d already turned him down.
Turned down the only thing Mr Prescott could offer me. But I still couldn’t stomach seeing him with someone else. Pathetic.
“Sophia, are you fine?”
The sound of Rita’s concerned voice brought me back to myself.
“I’m fine,” I said, forcing a smile I could barely feel. “Please excuse me for a moment.”
I wasn’t sure I could stomach seeing Mr Prescott and Daphne dance together anymore.
I didn’t even wait to see if Rita bought my explanation before I quickly left the hall and made my way to the restroom.
Finally, alone, I sucked in a breath trying my best to hold in the scream growing within me. I closed my eyes but all I could see was both of them.
My body shook uncontrollably and I felt like breaking something.
“Sucks, doesn’t it?” Daphne rasped in that cool disinterested voice of hers as she strutted into the restroom.
I froze but Daphne seemed to have no problem settling right next to me before proceeding to touch up her lipstick.
It was obvious that Daphne followed me here for a confrontation, a fight. But she was barking up the wrong tree, I had no intention of picking a fight with her over Mr Prescott.
I tried moving past her to leave the restroom but Daphne blocked my path, stepping right up into my personal space as she reached out, tucking a lock of my hair behind my ear and holding my chin between her index finger and thumb.
“You are so completely unremarkable,” Daphne sighed after a few seconds, her eyes sparkling with contempt. “Yet you get to be his wife.”
“Get your hands off me.” I snapped as I slapped her hand off my chin.
Daphne didn’t seem fazed as she spoke again.
“You should get a divorce.”
“What?” I asked, unable to believe my ears.
Was audacity on sale today? Who did Daphne think she was to tell me to get a divorce?
“Reid will come back to me, he always does,” Daphne said leaning in with a condescending smirk. “I’m just saving you some time and effort.”
Her words summoned an image of Daphne and Mr Prescott in his office and the way she had touched him so intimately.
I wanted nothing more than to slap the smirk off Daphne’s face but doing that would be letting her win. Letting her know she had gotten to me.
“I refuse to have this conversation with you.” I said curtly as I shoved her to the side making my way towards the door.
If she wanted to have a villain monologue, she could do it by herself.
If she thought she could steal Mr Prescott from me then she should just do it instead of telling me. Maybe that would end these inexplicable feelings I was having.
I was almost at the door when she spoke again, her elegant voice no longer controlled and snide but angry and irritated.
“People like you shouldn’t reach above their class. Penelope tried the same. She thought she was special but Reid discarded her as he will you.” Daphne snapped.
I looked over my shoulder at her and shrugged like I didn’t care if Mr Prescott ‘discarded’ me
“Then I guess we’ll see who Reid chooses, Daphne. But until then keep your mouth out of my married life.”
