Carl checked looked around the house after he went into the room, and then went into his own small bedroom after confirming there was no a problem and then closed the door. Living with a girl in a house, not only Emma felt embarrassed, Carl didn’t get used to it too.
“Come upstairs.” Emma shouted Cindy lying on the sofa.
“Why so early? Watch TV for a while.” Cindy ignored Emma and turned on the TV.
“Whatever, I’ll take a shower first.” Emma said and went upstairs.
Cindy sat on the sofa watching TV, but her attention was diverted to Carl’s closed door. After a while, Cindy knocked at his door, and then said, “Carl, may I come in?”
“Come in.” Carl said lightly after hearing Cindy’s voice.
Cindy pushed open the door and went in. Inside, Carl was sitting on the balcony in the bedroom, smoking.
“What’s on your mind?” Cindy went to the side of Carl and asked.
“Nothing. Have a seat.” Seeing there were no other chairs, he stood up and gave his chair to Cindy, and he sat directly on the balcony railing.
“Are you worried about Frost’s operation?” Cindy asked, and directly sat down on the chair.
“Yes, the doctor is scheduled to operate on her next Monday. There are only a few days left. The operation is actually risky and there is no guarantee that the operation will be successful.” Carl lit a cigarette and then lightly said.
“Don’t worry so much. You cannot believe all what the doctor said. Doctors like to talk about problems before they have an operation. They usually tell you the worst result but they know they can make it. Besides, I believe that heaven will bless Frost, a lovely little girl.” Cindy was comforting Carl.
“Thank you, I hope so.” Carl smiled and said.
“Did you… Did you tell Frost that you are a bodyguard for Emma?” Cindy asked Carl.
“No.” Carl shook his head.
“Why didn’t you tell her? Frost is really worried about you. She doesn’t know what you’re doing. She’s worried that you might do something bad to raise money for her treatment.” Cindy asked Carl curiously.
“There is no need to tell her that it is my duty to raise money for her medical treatment and her education and her life,” Carl said, “In addition, although bodyguard is also a career, in people’s hearts, this is not a glorious career. I do not want her to know that I am a bodyguard for others and feel indebted to me. She now needs to make sure she is in the right frame of mind to go through the operation.”
“How about you? Do you feel wronged by being a bodyguard?” Cindy asked immediately.
“You’re a bit like a gossip journalist, asking sharp questions.” Carl looked at Cindy and smiled. Then he said, “I am just a retired soldier. I have graduated from junior high school and have no diploma or skills. I’m satisfied to have a job to support myself and to cure Frost.”
“Did you apply for your discharge or did it come from your army?” Cindy then asked.
Carl was curiously looking at Cindy, lightly asked, “What difference does this have?”
“No, but it makes a big difference to the Frost.” Cindy also felt that she seemed to ask too much, she was too curious about Carl, so she talked about Frost Ye.
“It doesn’t make any difference to her. I’m her brother and my parents aren’t around, so it’s my responsibility to take care of her and raise her. It doesn’t matter if I’m discharged automatically or passively.” Carl said lightly.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” Cindy suddenly asked. After seeing Carl’s strange eyes looking at her, she blushed and said shyly, “Don’t misunderstand me, I just want to ask you about your situation. After all, it is very important for Frost.”
“No.” Carl did not ask much, but answered simply.
“Frost has told me a lot today, about herself, about your family, and about you. She felt very indebted to you. She said that if it weren’t for her, you might not leave the army, or you would have married and had children. That’s why I asked.” Cindy found an excuse to the question.
Carl was stunned, turned to look outside, saying nothing.
“Your job is very special and you certainly don’t have time to accompany Frost. I will spare some time to accompany Frost every day in the future. She is a girl, and stays alone in the hospital all day, with no one to accompany, no one to talk to. She must be very nervous since she is going to have such an important operation. She needs someone beside her to comfort her and cheer her up. What do you think?” Cindy looked at Carl and said.
Carl looked at Cindy without speaking for a moment. Then he got down from the railing and said solemnly, “Thank you, Miss Hu.”
He was not good at speaking, and he did not like to say too much. However, he knew what Cindy said was right. Frost really needed company in this situation, but since he had taken other people’s money, he should do a good job. Therefore, he didn’t refuse Cindy Hu.
“This is what I should do. Frost is my student, it my responsibility to care about her as a teacher, besides, I have always taken her as my sister. Frost has been the class leader, helped me do a lot of things. By the way, could you stop calling me Miss Hu? Although we are the relationship between teachers and parents, we are now friends. Isn’t it too rude of you to call me Miss Hu?” Cindy said to Carl with some dissatisfaction.
“Then what should I call you?” Carl asked.
“Call me by name, Cindy Hu, or you call me Cindy.” Cindy said.
