” What do you mean?” David asked the little woman in his arms.
He was still angry about what happened earlier but tried concealing it from her.
” The mall will definitely incur a loss if they give all those items for free. Business is business after all.” Sheila reasoned.
” The loss will be nothing compared to if I decide to hold them responsible for what happened.” David answered.
He had to give it to the manager for being wise. He was willing to incur a few dollars loss than be at odds with the Brown Corp.
” Even so…”
” Relax, at least you get to shop for free.” David said, calming down the woman.
” Beautiful sister, are we not going to the ice cream parlour?” Lily, who had been sidelined, asked.
” I’ll just get you one, let’s eat it at home.” Sheila answered.
Her mood was totally soiled after meeting with Laura. All she wanted now was to go home and take a nap.
” Okay.” Lily readily agreed. Being an observant and wise girl, she knew that her beautiful sister was not in a good mood anymore thanks to that evil woman.
Thinking about what that lady told her beautiful sister, Lily could not help not glare at her father.
Thanks to him, her beautiful sister was embarrassed in front of so many people.
David turned to look at Lily only to find her glaring at him. He did not need a seer to tell him what it is he did wrong.
Laura not only embarrassed his little woman, she also caused his daughter to resent him.
He would definitely teach her a lesson.
Maybe things would not have come to this had he stayed away from Laura regardless of the familial ties between the two of them.
Meanwhile, Laura slammed the door to the car making Lucas flinch.
” That bitch! I’ll teach her a lesson. How dare she mess with me!” She cussed angrily.
” Are you alright?” Lucas asked, concerned about her.
She had left the car in a bad mood after receiving a call from god knows who.
Now, she was fuming mad.
” What do you think?” Laura snapped angrily, her eyes shooting daggers at the poor man who did nothing but be concerned about her.
” Drive!” She ordered and Lucas did just as instructed.
He heard from other workers that the Young Miss of the family was hot tempered. Seeing it firsthand, he could agree to their words.
The two arrived at the Anderson Mansion.
Laura stepped down and marched towards the house.
” You are back early.” Mr Anderson sounded from the sitting room as Laura headed towards her room.
She was in a bad mood but throwing tantrums to her father will do her much harm than help.
Smiling sweetly, she turned to look at her father, ” it’s boring shopping alone so I came back.” Laura lied.
” Really?” Mr Anderson’s face was laced with sarcasm as he uttered that question.
” Yes Dad.” Laura replied.
” How come that’s not the report I got? I heard that your shopping spree was so interesting that you ended up getting blacklisted from Phoenix malls.” Although his voice sounded pleasant, Laura could detect the concealed anger in her father’s words.
” You had someone spy on me?” Laura questioned angrily. What she hated the most was someone monitoring each and every one of her moves.
” You know I don’t like it when someone spies on me?” She added, her face morphed into a frown.
” You gave me all the reasons to have you spied on Laura but no, I did not hear about your little adventure from my men. David personally called me and told me to warn you.” Mr Anderson informed Laura.
” Warn me? About what?”
” Stay away from his family. He said that the next time you show your face in front of him or his family, he won’t hesitate to end your life.” Mr Anderson said to his daughter.
Laura’s face hardened with anger.
Was David willing to put aside everything Including the good relationship between the two families, for the sake of that low Life?
” I gave you permission to go out because I felt guilty keeping you in the house but after today, I am now convinced that grounding you was the best decision.” The Man declared.
Laura’s heart picked its pace, she had a bad feeling about her father’s words.
” What do you mean by that?” Laura asked, fear gripping her heart. She was afraid of what would happen to her after she heard her father’s declaration.
“You are not allowed to step outside the walls of this house Laura. You will stay here until you realise that you can’t go around messing with people.” Mr Anderson announced.
Laura chuckled mirthlessly. She could not believe her father’s audacity.
” Why? Do you think you are any better than me? I just want to be with the man I love, what’s wrong with that daddy? Didn’t you say that we should always get rid of the obstacles that stop us from achieving our goals? Ain’t I doing what you did thirty years ago? Or do you think I don’t know what happened to David’s parents?” Laura paused, giving her father time to digest her words.
” You have always wanted to take over the Brown Corp, don’t you think it’s easier to take over if I get married to David?” Laura added, baiting her father.
She always knew about her father’s intention of acquiring the Brown Corp.
” I want to acquire that company but I will do it my way. At first, I thought that you could win David’s heart but look at you, you are a complete failure. You can’t even manage to convince him to marry you. You are as useless as your mother. I don’t need your help lest you ruin everything for me.” The man declared ruthlessly.
Now that his daughter knew about his intentions all along, he did not see any need to hide the matter anymore.
” Are you admitting to using me? Just like you used my mother and discarded her when you did not need her anymore?” Laura accused.
Growing up, she saw how coldly her mother was treated despite her being the legal owner of the Anderson family company.
After taking over the company, he sidelined his wife, eventually kicking her out of the company.
Her mother succumbed into depression which claimed her life.
All that happened when she was young. Ofcourse being young didn’t mean she was blind. She saw everything that her mother went through and hated her father for causing her mother’s death.
” Don’t you dare bring your mother’s name into this matter.” Mr Anderson bellowed.
To him, his wife’s name was like a taboo.
” Why father, you don’t like hearing how you treated your own wife? You are where you are now thanks to her. Without my mother, you would be nothing!” Laura’s words earned her a slap from her father.
She looked at her father with unconcealed hate.
” You dare raise your hand on me?” She asked coldly.
” I’ll beat you to death if I have to.” The man declared without any ounce of emotion on his face.
” Now get out of my sight or I’ll throw you out of this house right at this moment.” The man added.
Knowing how ruthless her father could be, Laura understood that that was no empty threat.
With tears pooling in her eyes, she ran upstairs and into her room before slamming the door shut.
