” Okay, fine you win. I called to discuss something with you. I don’t know if you are interested or not.” Sheila said in surrender. Seems like her senior knew her all to well.
” Let’s hear what you have.”
Taking a deep breath, she started.
” After thinking, I have decided to accept your proposal but I have a condition.”
” Continue.”
” I need a job in your company.” Mira announced.
” Does this mean you’ll sell the designs to me and the only condition you have is getting a job?” The voice asked, not quite believing what he was hearing.
” Yes Blake, I only want a job. You said that you’ll grant me anything I want if I ever decide to sell my designs to you.” Sheila said.
” Yes I did and that includes taking you as my wife. Are you sure you don’t want to be Mrs Shelton little princess?” Blake said half jokingly.
” Come on Blake, I’m being serious here!” Sheila jabbed, annoyed.
” Okay princess, I accept the deal. I’ll make you the chief designer for my brand. You know I have always wanted to poach you to work with me. Seems like at last my prayers have been answered.”
” No Blake, I don’t want a higher position. I want a position that will challange me to grow. I would prefer to work as a designer.” Sheila argued.
Since she would be selling her designs after all these years of turning down lucrative prices, she would be venture into her passion.
She tried to hold on to her parents wishes of working in a huge company but her efforts to seek a job had been futile in the past one year.
Maybe this was her wake up call to embrace what she’s passionate about, and that’s designing.
” Anything you say princess.” Blake replied. You couldn’t fail to notice the happiness in his voice.
” I’ll arrange anything for the contract signing. Where do you want us to meet and at what time?” He added, seeking her opinion.
After trying countless times without any success, he had almost given up on the designs that caught his attention since their university days.
He was her senior in the business course but one day, she had asked him to give his opinion on three jewel drafts she had designed.
Blake fell in love with them at first sight, asking her to sell them to her.
Being the bastard son of Shelton’s family, nobody paid him any attention on what he did in life.
He had always had a thing with fashion and jewellery and after talking to his father, he had funded him into starting a jewellery company while in the university.
He wasn’t interested in the family business, not like anybody would allow him to step foot there.
He had just started his company and was in need of designers when Sheila showed him her designs.
He offered her a job to work with his company with a good salary, at least for a student and an offer to buy her designs, but she declined his offer.
She said that the designs were her first ever creations and dedications to her parents and that she couldn’t sell them to him. Although disappointed, he understood and respected her decision because he was aware of how good their relationship was.
She declined to work with him, reasons well known to her and as the gentleman he was, he didn’t probe any further.
Having her agree to finally bless him with the pieces of art he had been eyeing for long, he could not afford to give her time, lest she decides not to continue with the deal.
” That’s your decision to make.” Sheila replied. She Just wanted to close the deal and move to the next step of her life.
Although reluctant to part with her first creations, she knew that to move out of the house, she would need cash. She would also use the remaining cash to set up a simple jewel shop where she will start her journey to becoming a renowned designer.
She believed that with time, she would accomplish her and her parent’s dreams.
” Let’s meet at Spoon zoom over lunch. We could have a meal together and catch up.” Blake proposed and Sheila agreed.
The call ended after a few words.
She had finally come to a decision, she just hoped that she was making the right decision.
The following morning, Sheila escorted Lily to the school.
David left home before dawn as usual, solidifying Sheila’s belief that the sooner she left the house, the better for everyone.
She couldn’t control the sadness crawling to her heart when she imagined that she would be separated from Lily.
She had come to grow close to the little girl and seen how lovable she was. It was such a pity that the two of them will have to depart and continue with their usual life.
After dropping Lily to the hospital, Sheila asked the driver to take her to the City mausoleum. She didn’t forget to get a bouquet of baby breath flowers and white roses.
Walking to the cemetery, she approached her parent’s graves which were next to each other.
Placing the baby breath on her mother’s grave, the roses went to her father’s.
” I’m here to see you Dad, mom. I missed you.” She started, sitting on the edge of her mother’s grave.
” You know, I still don’t believe that you are both gone. It’s been three years but it’s hard to forget that you are no longer with me. Life hasn’t been easy on me and I admit that’s what proves your absence in my life. It’s never the same again without you.” A lone tear escaped her eye but Sheila did not make an effort to wipe it.
” I have decided to sell what was made to be special for you. I didn’t want to do it but I have to make that decision for my future happiness. I found him, the special one mom always talked about. Unfortunately we can’t be together because we come from two different worlds. I am poor and can’t fit in his cycle. That’s why I made the decision to sell my drafts to Blake. I know papa you always liked him for me. He’s good but I don’t love him and don’t want to accept him just because I can’t have who I want. I promise that when I come to visit next, I’ll come with good news.”
Sheila stayed at the cemetery until afternoon when she Left, boarded a taxi and went to meet Blake.
