(3rd person P. O. V)
The following day, everyone gets up early in the morning, comes down for breakfast, and then goes to the stadium for the annual function.
“Today, for a special opening, we had arranged by arranging a fight between two alphas of the strongest pack in the world, Alpha Cole and Alpha Bryan of Calamity pack,” Emma called their name, and they both walked inside the stadium ground.
“I don’t think Alpha King Cole should participate in the annual function. I mean, he is the king and Nikki’s mate. It won’t be that hard for him to win this competition. He is fighting with the alpha of the strongest pack after him,” one of the luna of another pack whispered in her friend’s ears.
“It’s literally like cheating, isn’t it? So much for making sure ” Luna of the traditional pack commented on it, and Nikki heard it.
“While preparing the stadium for the annual function with other witches, Emma planted a spell on the stadium ground so that the participants only use the amount of energy and strength needed to make sure it is fair competition. Your chances of winning or losing the game depend on how you use your power and strategy to win the match. And no one cheats in the competition by using their strength. If you don’t believe me, why don’t you send one of the witches who joined your pack after finding her mate to go and check the ground.” Nikki roared for everyone to hear it.
“Isn’t it strange, Daisy, at first, when Cole takes the position of the alpha king, people raise their fingers at his capability of handling that position? But now, when he is participating in the annual function, people are saying that he is cheating because he is an alpha king?” Nikki asks her.
“You’re right, Luna. People should think about what they are saying about others behind their backs. What will happen if the words reach the person they were talking about and create havoc in their life?” Daisy asks her.
“We are sorry, Luna,” both Luna’s of another pack apologized to her while bowing their heads to her.
“It’s okay. It was normal for anyone to get suspicious of us. It only proves how strong my mate is,” Nikki said with a smirk on her face.
“Nicely done, boss,” Daisy said with a smirk on her face, and both gave each other a high five.
“Now, I want you to shake your hands with each other, take your positions, and wait for my signal,” Emma said to them, and they followed her instruction.
*Go and show them, Cole. Who is the boss?* Nikki silently cheers for him by using their mind link.
*Do I have to?* he asks her.
*Yes, if you do that. Whoever secretly questioned your position as an alpha king would never be able to raise their finger on your capability. Besides, if you win this competition, I will reward you.* Nikki said to him.
*Is that so? It looks like I have no choice then* Cole said with a smirk and got ready to fight. Emma signals them to begin their fight. When the match started, the crowd roared with excitement.
Cole and Bryan started moving around each other, assessing each other next move. Cole observed his movements and indulged in the familiar feel of adrenaline rushing through his veins. After a few minutes of dodging Bryan’s hits and annoying him, Cole finally caught on to his moves.
Bryan slightly ducks his head before throwing a punch, and Cole notices that Bryan shuffles on his feet before throwing a kick. Cole also noticed that the left side of his jaw was wide open most of the time since Bryan seemed to be left-handed.
Cole made a quick decision and gave Bryan a blow on the side of his thigh hard enough to make his leg slightly limp. Cole made a move to jab Bryan but got blocked. Cole expected him to cover his face with both of his hands, but Bryan didn’t do it properly, and the side of his face was left unprotected. While throwing a jab, Cole swung his fist, aiming for his jaw, and Bryan strumbled backward before he caught himself.
To finish this fight, Cole grabbed the back of Bryan’s neck, ready to pull Bryan down and knee him in the face. However, Bryan caught on sooner than Cole expected and tried to cover his face before Cole could hit him with his knees. Cole improvised and used the inside of his arm, right below his elbow, to hit Bryan Adam’s apple while his foot went behind Bryan and hooked itself to the back of his knee, effectively tripping him.
Cole pins Bryan’s hands with one hand and his leg with another hand on the ground. Emma counted to three, and when Bryan didn’t get up and fight back, she declared Cole, the winner of that match. After the game, Cole shakes Bryan’s hands one more time and walks back to his mate.
“So, where is my reward?” Cole asks while lifting Nikki in his arms and taking her seat while making her sit on his lap.
“I will give you one when we go back to our room one for winning the match and one for putting up a good show while doing so,” Nikki said while kissing him on his cheek. Emma called the next contestant of the match, and they resumed watching the game.
After another 20 matches, the time for lunch arrives, and everyone goes to the castle to have lunch and get some rest before the next contest begins. After one and a half an hour later, everyone comes back to watch other matches.
Each passing day of the annual competition gets tougher and tougher. At first, only small and weak animals like rabbits, deer, and pigs were released for hunting competition. Still, with each passing day, more challenging and brutal animals like bears, lions, tigers, and boars were released for hunting competitions.
The same goes for archer and shooting competitions; each passing day makes it difficult for contestants to hit their targets. In the last round of the competition, contestants were made to clear an obstacle course while hitting moving targets. But still, everyone enjoyed the annual function. Some people enjoy the annual function so much that; they suggest to Cole and Emma that it should be held every year instead of every five years. But Emma and some other people reject the idea that it consists of lots of work to be held every year.
Some Vampires also request their king Ryan to hold the same function for them or ask Cole and Emma to allow them to participate in the function when they have it next time. Ryan listened to their request and said that he would talk about it with Emma and the vampire council and inform them about their decision.
