(3rd person P. O. V)
“Cole, what is this?” Nikki’s whimpers ring in Cole’s ear as he watches his mate being torn apart by the heat.
She had never felt so helpless. She felt like her insides were in a fire. The heat that gnawed on her skin was like a thousand needles were piercing through her body. The only thing that made her feel better was the touch of her mate, but Cole didn’t want to hold her, he kept pushing her body under the cold water, making sure her head stayed afloat on the surface.
She pleaded with her eyes, as she couldn’t utter a word to him, yet Cole didn’t understand. No, he understands but he refused to do so. But, why?
Now, there were 3 people inside the bathroom except her and Cole. All of them were talking to each other but she couldn’t hear what they were talking about because of the ringing sound in her ears.
The only thing that she was certain about was, that Cole shouting at the doctor. But why should he be angry at the doctor, when the thing he could do now, was simply held her? She didn’t understand this situation and as she closed her eyes, her body was engulfed in darkness.
When the sun started to rise on the horizon, Nikki found herself lying on the bed with a blanket over her, It was the sparks that Nikki felt on her right cheek that told her Cole was right beside her. She wakes up feeling her body numb due to the pain she endures.
“My love…. are you awake? How are you feeling now?” Cole asks when she opens her eyes to look at him. Her throat was so dry and hurt, which she assumed was due to her screaming last night.
“Do you feel better now?” Cole asks her and she weakly nods her head at him.
“Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?” Cole asks and she nods her head again. Cole was quick to reach the glass of water near the bed, that he had prepared for her and help her drink it.
When the liquid moistened her throat, she felt better and got some energy to talk to him.
��What was that?” she asks, her voice sounding rough and dry just like the dessert.
“You were in the heat last night,” Cole said to her while holding her in his arms and pulling her to make her sit on his lap, and she snuggled in his arms.
“The process, the moon goddess made to make sure, that the mates, complete the mating process?” she asks him.
“You know about it?” he asks her.
“Yes, Kiyara explains it to me, when I pass out on you after my first shift,” she said to him.
“What did she say about it to you?” Cole asks her.
“Kiyara said that every unmated werewolf has to go through a process called heat. So, the moon goddess makes sure they get mated and convinces the child. In this process, both unmated males and females go in heat where they feel their bodies burning like hell and can only be cooled down by the touch of their mates.
The mating process is divided into 3 parts.
1. Marking – which means your mate will mark you and you will mark him/her at the place where your shoulder and neck meet, it will tell the world that you were taken and not available for others.
2. Claiming – where you claim your mate by your know-how and 3rd but not the last
3. Blood ritual – where you cut your hand and join your hands which will make your blood mix and make your bond fully completed and even stronger than before, ” she explains and turns her face pink when she explains about the Clamming process.
“This is what it feels like when every time you go in heat?” she asks after clearing her throat and he nods his head again.
“God, it’s awful,” she said with a groan.
“I know right?” he said with a sigh.
“How many times does it happen, in a year?” she asks him.
“It happens after every 3 months and when you mark your mate,” Cole said curly.
“Talking about marking, when are you going to mark me?” she asks him.
“When you turn 18 and feel ready to do it,” he said nuzzling in her neck and she nodded her head. Then a knock sounded on the door.
“Come in,” Cole said in his alpha tone and Emma entered their room with a tray of food in her hands.
“How are you feeling now, Nikki?” she asks him.
“Fine,” she said snuggling closer to Cole.
“I have brought something to eat for you and drink this potion after you finish eating your breakfast, it will give you strength and stamina and also decrease the effect of heat on you,” Emma said putting the tray on the nightstand.
“Can you make pills of these potions to help the unmated males and females, who go in heat?” Cole asks her. She nodded her head and walked out of the room.
“You need to eat my love, you must be hungry,” Cole said to her and fed her with his hands. After that, she handed the glass containing the potion to her. As Nikki put the glass near her mouth, she smelled the disgusting smell coming out of the glass.
She shakes her head while pulling the glass away from her mouth and putting it back in the tray while making a disgusting face at it.
“What happened?” Cole asks.
“It smells disgusting, I can’t drink it,” she said making a disgusting face at him. He wanted to chuckle at her antics but control it.
“Do you want to go through that pain again?” he asks in a serious tone and she shakes her head furiously.
“Then drink it all and finish it all,” Cole said to her and she finished it all in one go. She put the glass over the tray and ran to the washroom to brush her teeth and remove the awful smell from her mouth, while he just chuckles at her. After that, she takes a shower gets dressed, and walks into the room feeling tired, so she gets inside the bed and falls asleep.
They stayed at the pack-house until Nikki’s heat week was over and Emma had also prepared the ton of pills for his pack, while she was there in the pack-house.
