Chapter 56

Book:Where We Belong Published:2024-6-4

Once I was safely in my car I locked the doors. A habit I had yet to break. Phone in hand I dialed his number putting it on speaker.
He didn’t answer.
I tried again only this time it went straight to voicemail. Placing my phone in the holder I hit Ally’s number putting it on speaker.
“Did you knock a bitch out?”. She asked.
“I fucked up”. I groaned.
“Wait, what happened, are you okay?”.
I could hear the noise in the background fading, the door to a room closing. “Are you still at work?”. I asked, turning on my engine and pulling onto the road.
“Doing my rounds, the big bosses are in so I’m currently hiding in a cleaning closet”. A laugh fell from her lips. “Tell me what happened”.
“Turns out that girl was lying”. Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip I stopped at a red-light signaling left. “He really was that drunk he couldn’t remember”.
“Shit”. She laughed. “I wasn’t expecting that”.
“Hey”….
“I’m sorry but he did have a reputation for it when you first started going out”.
I couldn’t argue with that.
“He’s going to think I don’t trust him at all. Watch this space for another massive argument”. I sighed as the light turned green. “Can you come over tonight please?”.
“Moral support, I got you gal but please don’t argue when I’m there. Blaze still terrifies the life out of me”.
“I doubt he’ll come home. I already told him not to. How do I even go about making it up to him?”.
“Lingerie”…
“Ally”. I sighed.
“Or sex, me I’d pick both. Oh, wait for him to come home but be in nothing but heels”.
She was good at this but that wasn’t me. I didn’t know how to be sexy. “Anything else?”.
“Could always just say you’re sorry. Personally I wouldn’t even apologise. It’s his fault you thought he cheated”.
“I feel bad”. As I parked up I turned my engine off and just sat there. All bikes were lined up outside so I knew he was here.
“Let me know if it’s safe to come over tonight. I have to go before I get my ass chewed. Let me know if you need me”.
“See you tonight. Bye”.
Unclipping my seatbelt I watched as the clubhouse door opened, my eyes falling onto Jared. He lit a smoke before making his way towards me.
“You just gonna sit there?”. He asked.
I wasn’t sure if I was still mad at him or not. He was Blazes best friend but he was also mine. “I’m still mad at you”. Guess I was. Regardless if it wasn’t true he still didn’t tell me.
“What did I do?”. He glared.
“You we’re with him Jared and-…”
“Aye darling but we were both shit faced. Didn’t even make it home”…..
“Well I’m still mad at you”. Opening my door I grabbed my bag from the back seat and got out.
“Ava”. He groaned slinging his arm around my shoulder. “You can’t stay mad at me”. He pouted.
Not being able to hide my smile I rolled my eyes. “Is he inside?”. I asked.
“Sulking over a beer”. He smirked. “Poor fucker can’t handle that he can’t remember”.
“That’s what happens when you drink like a fucking idiot. Know your limit Jared”. Pushing the door open his arm fell from my shoulders.
My mom was behind the bar, my dad sat with Blaze and Duke. Jared was right, he was sulking. Maybe he knew deep down he didn’t do anything?
“Hey baby”. My mom smiled placing a glass of orange juice in front of me. Taking a seat, I rummaged around in my bag for the scan pictures.
“Here”. I grinned before placing my bag at my feet.
“Oh Ava, Franko get over here”. She yelled. “Look at your little bean. We’re keeping this”. She grinned before rubbing her eyes.
Wait, she was crying?
“Aye darling?”. My dad leaned against the bar before taking the picture from her hands. A grin broke out on his face, slinging his arm around my shoulder he kissed the top of my head. “I’m glad you’re here for this one sweetheart”.
I was too. Being on my own the last time was scary.
“I’ve got a seat for him at the table”. My dad smirked.
Again, with the him.
“Do me a favour sweetheart?”.
“What’s that?”. I asked, taking a sip of my juice.
“Fix that”. He nodded towards Blaze. “Fuckers in some mood. The prospect got it tight this morning”.
“He’s lucky I didn’t set his bike on fire”…
“You tell her about that?”. He turned to my mom who smirked before winking at him.
“She’s a Mendez Franko but don’t forget she’s my daughter”.
“Aye fucking crazy”. He smirked, leaning in for a kiss. “Just fix it sweetheart I can’t have his mind on you when he goes out tonight”.
“Where’s he going?”. I asked.
“Never you mind that, just sort your shit out and fix his fucking mood”.
Rolling my eyes I slipped off the barstool grabbing my bag from the floor. “I’m going home so I can change my shoes”. I would talk to him, but I wasn’t doing it here.
“Who’s collecting Everleigh?”. My dad asked.
“Her dad”. Car keys in hand I said my goodbyes before heading outside. I already knew he was following me. He hadn’t taken his eyes off me since I got here.
Reaching my car, I turned around and sure enough he was heading straight for me. “I can’t fucking remember what I did, but this fucking kicking me out of the house and not talking to me is not fucking happening”. Running a hand over his face he pulled out smoke lighting it up. “I can’t take it when you’re not talking to me. Yell at me, punch me, just please fucking talk to me”.
“Okay”. I whispered, unlocking my car and getting in. It was too cold to stand outside.
He jumped into the passenger side rolling down the window. Now it was my turn to explain that he did nothing wrong, and I had done all the above for no reason.
“I wouldn’t cheat on you Ava I know I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t risk losing my girls”.
“I know”. I sighed. Right now, all I wanted was a draw of his cigarette. “Would you be pissed if I asked for a draw of that?”.
“Don’t you fucking dare”. He glared. “You’re carrying my fucking son Ava”.
I shouldn’t have even asked but I wanted it so badly.
“You better not be fucking smoking”.
“I’m not and I won’t”. Turning my head away from him, a sigh fell from my lips.
“You letting me come home?”. He asked.
“Maybe”. I bit back my smile.
“Don’t fucking play with me”. He grabbed hold of my chin, turning my head back towards him. “I’m not in the fucking mood sweets”.
“You did nothing wrong”. I whispered.
“The fuck?”. He glared.
“She lied and you were that drunk you couldn’t remember”. He let go of my chin, his glare still clear. “All they see is the biker”. I repeated Candy’s words from earlier. “They think you’re all the same. She bet the other girls she could dance for you”.
“Babe I-…”
“And even in your drunken state all you could talk about was me. She didn’t like that, took advantage of the fact that you are not available and used it against you”.
“I’m sorry darling”.
“And so, you should be”. I smiled. “I don’t need the stress Blaze”. Reaching out his hand he lay it flat against my stomach.
“Our kid in their Ava”….
“Yes, and remember we already have one Blaze”.
“Aye babe and she’ll always be my number one, but I didn’t get to see her grow in your belly”…
“With this one you will”. I whispered, placing my hand on top of his. “But just so we’re clear if you ever cheat on me or disrespect me, I’m gone. I’ll take the kids and you’ll never see us again”.
“Aye sweetheart I hear you”.
“I mean it Blaze. I managed without you before and I can certainly do it again”. There were no other chances left. He either wanted us or he didn’t.
“I said I fucking hear you”. Removing his hand from my stomach he ran it over his face before flicking his cigarette out the window. “I’m not gonna do anything to fuck this up Ava”.
All I could do was trust that he wouldn’t be so stupid to risk losing his family.
“Will you be home tonight?”.
“At some point aye. Heading out at 8 but I’ll send Jared round the house”.
That wasn’t good. Jared was his right-hand man, would become his VP when my dad stepped down. Why wasn’t he going with him tonight?
“Cage is with me tonight babe. Jared will be there until I return. You’ve nothing to worry about”.
I wasn’t convinced in the slightest, but I wasn’t going to question it. “I’ve got church soon, you heading home?”. I didn’t want to go home to an empty house. It was boring and not to mention lonely.
“Not yet. I’ll hang out here for a little while before I pick up Everleigh. I need to pick up some things from the store”.
“I’ll pick up Everleigh, you go to the store. I want to see you before I head out tonight”. Taking my hand in his he placed a kiss on my knuckles. “I shouldn’t be too late, it’s only a little job”.
For once I didn’t want to know where he was going or what the job was. Every time he went out, I worried until he returned.
“I’ll try and stay up, but I doubt I will”. I grinned.
“You at the hospital tomorrow?”. He asked.
“Yeah, but I shouldn’t be there all day”.
“How about I take Everleigh to your moms tonight. It means-…”.
“No, I want her with me”. I had hardly spent any time with her over the past few days.
“I get that baby, but you need to rest”.
“I’m pregnant Blaze not dying, and I miss my baby. I’m not used to being away from her this long”.
“Aye darling, whatever you say”. Opening the passenger side door, he took another smoke from his cut lighting it up.
“Really?”. I glared.
I noticed how heavy a smoker he had become. Not that it bothered me but something in the back of my mind told me he was worried or worrying about something.
“You’re the one that’s pregnant darling, not me”. He smirked.
Rolling my eyes I turned on the ignition. “Get out, I need to go to the store”. Placing a kiss on my cheek he rubbed my stomach before getting out.
“One for good luck sweetheart”…
