Jack’s POV
“Has he left?” I ask Jake as he sneaks inside the room again.
“I’m not sure we’ll be able to leave tonight.” He says as I chuckle softly, trying to ease the tension around me. Jake and I have been trying to sneak out of the pack since it is the dead of the night and almost everyone has gone to bed. Only the security wolves and dad are present at the gate. We can decide to use the back of the pack but it’s so dangerous. And I’m certain there are also security wolves there though they can be bribed as I heard. It’s just too dangerous. You might be bitten by a vampire or a snake and you might never heal up.
What if I am bitten by a vampire and by the time I get my wolf, I become a hybrid? I think it over as I suddenly shut the door while drawing the curtains.
“Is he coming towards our direction?” Jake asks.
“I think so,” I say as I see dad pointing at the direction of our room while coming himself. Maybe the security wolves didn’t answer him. It can’t be. It definitely must be coming out of willingness.
“Let’s hide our head.” He says as we pretend to be asleep. Within a few more seconds, I can hear some approaching feet thudding on the ground. The doorbell suddenly begins to ring as I caution Jake to stay in bed and not try to say a word or make a sound.
After a few more rings, my phone beeps with the notification of a call. I can’t say I didn’t see his call, so I take it on time.
“Open the door.” He instructs and hangs up.
“He told me to open the door,” I inform Jake, “don’t worry. We are safe. We will try again the next day.”
The expression on his face isn’t satisfying but I shrug my shoulders as I disable the soundproofs. I unlock the door and Alex walks in. I lock it again and lean my back on it.
“Why are you here in the middle of the night?” I ask and cup my jaw as I await a response.
“I should be asking you why you are awake by the middle of the night.” He responds
“We need good sleep. I was just going to the restroom when I saw the notification of your call. I couldn’t have taken the call. What do you want?” I ask.
“Come up here, little boy.” He says but I remain standing where I am.
“I am Jack. I am eighteen. Yes, a few months more. Just one and a half.” I rebuff.
“Jack, come on, I’ve got some goodnews for you.”
“I’ll disable you if I find out it’s a trap,” I say and he chuckles softly. After I reach the bed, I sit on it and he begins to disseminate the information he has for us.
“I heard Dominic went berserk and his pack is ruined. Don’t say a word until I am done telling you everything I came here to say.” He says and I gulp and nod.
“His pack is without a ruler now and I heard his beta is the next ruler. But he isn’t really capable. So it’s still correct to say the pack is without a ruler.” He says and I heave a deep sigh. Jake glares at him, still trying to figure out the main purpose of his information.
“I want us to take down the beta and claim the pack as ours. We might employ another ruler and refurbish the pack while we eliminate Dominic.” He says.
“Are you saying this?” I suddenly ask. He tries to stop me but I stop him first, “I’m sorry if I came off rude or I didn’t obey you by permitting you to complete your speech first, but are you really saying this? Eliminate Dominic? If your twin brother goes berserk, aren’t you supposed to cater for him?”
“I understand your rants but you don’t understand mine.” He says.
“I don’t need to. By the time I try to eliminate Jake, you’ll understand my rants better.”
“I was just playing a prank on you. I want to see your reaction.” He suddenly says.
“What did I say I’d do to you if I realize it’s a prank? Isn’t it too early to play pranks on us? Are you being for real? Leave here already.” I rant.
“Jack, calm down. You’re speaking with your father.” Jake says.
“Hold it here. I wasn’t talking to you. Good that you know. So focus on yourself. Alex, what do you want? I am tired and need some rest.”
“You’re just a kid. If not, I’ll ban you from the pack for being so unnecessarily bold.” He says and I lower my voice. I don’t want to be a rogue or a wolf that belongs to Dominic’s pack. I heard he’s gone berserk. How does a crazy Alpha lead a pack? Now imagine being under that rulership.
“Okay. I just want to check up on both of you. Your mother said she feels there’s something wrong somewhere and she can feel it. I hope you’re all fine. By dawn, just come to the field and let’s play some game. And let me warn you now, it cost me a lot of things just to have you two here in the pack. Don’t try to leave or else you’ll be fired bullets at, at the spot.” He warns. For some minutes, I feel like he’s overheard our conversation. The one I had with Jake.
“I will leave now and your mother might come visit you by dawn.” He says and makes to leave but I hold him back.
“Dad, what about mum’s ceremony? She should be appointed as the Luna of the pack. Officially.” I suggest.
“She is.”
“It’s been a while. Several months, we left the pack. Does the pack recognize her as the female leader of the pack? I think it’s necessary to do it again for her.”
“I’ll consider it.”
“You’re not leaving here until you give me your word.” I hold him back to bed.
He gently pulls me into a hug as he whispers into my ears, “I will consider it, little boy. Don’t be this peevish.”
He finally leaves the room and after I lock it up, I confront Jake for sounding rude the previous time.
“We can try again. But how did he know we were going to sneak out of the pack?” Jake asks.
“I’ll relate with you well and answer every of your question if you comply with my rules. Don’t disrespect me. I have told you times without number.”
“I’m sorry, Jack. We can try sneaking out again.”
“Is it because this is for your benefit mainly?” I ask.
“I just need a girlfriend. You advised me. Remember?”
“I never forced the advice on you. Remember?”
“It’s alright. Case closed. I am not chasing the girl again. Whenever I see her in the pack, I’ll approach her myself.” He says and hurries to the restroom like though he’s got a runny stomach for a few hours now.
“Do quick and come here. I’ve got a wolf book for us to read. We will soon have our wolves. Yay!” I scream and I know he must be eager to know more about the book I’ve talked about. Even if I wasn’t holding a book, I could use it as a snare to bring him back to bed within a short time.
“Hold on. I’ll soon be done.” He screams from the restroom. With the way his voice sounds, I can guess he’s pooing. I walk up to the restroom to be certain he shut her door but it’s on the latch.
I suddenly open it and he’s pooing indeed. He almost flings a bucket at me for doing that. I playfully return to bed.
It seems like he’s an ambivert now. He can act as an extrovert sometimes but most times, an introvert. If only one can switch brothers before born, I might have done that.
“Okay. I’m here.” He suddenly says as I turn to face him.
“You scared me.” I express.
“Glad I did.” He says and jumps onto the bed, “where’s the book?”
“Right here.” I say and extend it to him. He gladly receives it and flips the page open on time.
“About our new shifting? Or what were you talking about?” He asks.
“You tricked me?” He suddenly asked.
“Glad I did.” I repeat what he said and roll off the bed before he hit me. I climb the bed again and edit my words, “just a joke. It’s actually a wolf book and you can see the stories of the young wolves that transformed under the full moon. The pain they went through. The joy they felt at being an official wolf finally, after so many oppressions from their mates.”
“Exactly.” He says.
“But all in all, I hope I am not mated to a weak wolf. I am sure I am a strong wolf. I aspire to be an Alpha.” I say and he laughs heartily. He points at me and says, “you surely can be an Alpha. I can see the rulership title running in your veins.”
I stare at him, slightly blushing, as I consider this statement the only reasonable one he’s ever made in his lifetime.
