Edward opened his eyes, glancing to the side, and found Chloe still peacefully asleep. Seeing his wife’s beautiful face without makeup made Edward unconsciously smile.
He observed her for quite a while, reaching out his right hand to gently caress her cheek and hair.
To him, every part of Chloe’s body was attractive. In fact, Edward considered himself extremely fortunate to be able to marry her, especially if he could win Chloe’s heart completely.
Honestly, he was once obsessed with having Chloe, driven by curiosity about why she adamantly rejected him. But gradually, Edward’s feelings changed. He tried to learn to genuinely love her.
However, now Edward had to face the bitter reality that the woman who was his wife had married him with ulterior motives. Instead of being worried, this revelation only fueled his determination to conquer and bind Chloe so that she could never escape from him.
The matter of Chloe’s birth mother, for example, Edward had even asked Hans to investigate and search for the woman’s whereabouts until she was found. All of this was done to capture Chloe’s attention.
Luckily, last night was like a breath of fresh air for Edward. Out of the blue, Sisilia approached and informed him that she knew and knew the whereabouts of his wife’s birth mother.
“How did you know that I was looking for Chloe’s birth mother? I never told anyone about this,” Edward asked, surprised.
Sisilia let out a short sigh. Actually, she had wanted to tell Edward about this matter since yesterday.
“I apologize, sir. Some time ago, I accidentally overheard your conversation with someone on the phone. I’m quite sure that you asked that person to find Chloe’s long-lost birth mother.”
Edward raised both eyebrows, trying to recall until he realized that he had indeed had a serious conversation with Hans on the phone shortly before leaving for a party with his father.
“So, Auntie, you really know the whereabouts of Chloe’s birth mother?”
Sisilia nodded confidently.
“I know the whereabouts of Patricia Hazel. I can even arrange a meeting between you and her.”
Edward breathed a sigh of relief. He was so happy to hear the news from Aunt Sisilia. That meant he didn’t have to bother asking Hans to conduct the search anymore.
“By God, I’m thrilled to hear this. So when can I meet my mother-in-law?”
Sisilia seemed to think for a moment.
“This weekend seems like the right time. But… may I ask for something?” Sisilia asked hesitantly.
“What do you need? As long as it’s not difficult, I might be able to fulfill it,” Edward replied.
“Please keep this a secret from anyone, including your wife.”
Edward looked puzzled. Why would Aunt Sisilia forbid Chloe, who was, after all, Patricia’s biological daughter, from meeting her own mother?
“But why?”
“I’ll explain the reason later. But not now. What’s certain is, if you want to meet her, this weekend I can take you to meet Patricia.”
Edward politely took Sisilia’s wrist and squeezed it gently while whispering.
“I’m really grateful to you, Auntie. Just so you know, I’ve been waiting for this moment.”
Sisilia smiled back.
“No problem, sir. I just want to help you, and luckily I can do it.”
Recalling last night’s conversation, Edward became even more impatient, eagerly looking forward to the weekend. He wanted to meet the woman whom his wife had never been able to find all this time.
He gazed at his wife’s beautiful face for a long time until she finally woke up from her sleep.
“What time is it?” Chloe murmured. Her voice still sounded hoarse, as is common for someone who just woke up.
“It’s only six in the morning. If you’re still sleepy, you can go back to sleep,” Edward replied.
Chloe closed her eyes for a moment before sitting up. She slid out of bed while speaking.
“I have an important meeting today, so I have to leave early.”
While Chloe was busy in the bathroom, Edward quickly made his way to the walk-in closet. He reached into the pocket of the jacket he wore yesterday to take out the medicine Jacob had prescribed.
Soon, Edward walked towards the dressing table, opened the drawer, and took Chloe’s medicine bottle. Carefully, he exchanged its contents with another one.
Meanwhile, Chloe didn’t immediately head for a shower; instead, she was busy admiring her reflection through the mirror. The red marks intentionally left by Edward on her body from a few nights ago were still clearly visible.
“Why haven’t you showered? Were you waiting for me?” Somehow, Edward had entered the bathroom without notice. He even deliberately hugged his wife from behind while giving a wet kiss on Chloe’s fully exposed back.
Not only her back, but Chloe’s body was now completely bare. There wasn’t a single thread clinging to her.
“Ed… I’m not in the mood for games.”
Unfortunately, Edward didn’t care. He continued to shower her back and the nape of her neck with kisses, inhaling her scent deeply while whispering, “I’m not playing around either. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with having morning sex, right?”
“Ed…” Chloe’s hair stood on end. Countless times she took a deep breath to calm her nerves. “I’m serious about—”
“Ssstttss…” Edward didn’t let Chloe voice her protests. Slowly, he turned his wife around, guiding them to face each other. “This won’t take long, dear. I’ve told you many times. Just be silent and enjoy; let me take care of you.”
Edward wasn’t lying; the next moment, he worshiped Chloe’s body again, enticing her to respond to his every touch. Eventually, Chloe’s defenses crumbled. She couldn’t help but enjoy it, getting lost in the game Edward intentionally created.

“Ma’am, why have you been silent all this time? Is there something on your mind?”
Samuel had been waiting for Chloe to speak for more than thirty minutes. All this time, he observed how his boss just sat quietly in her office chair. Who knew what was going on in her mind this time.
“Ma’am!” Samuel called out again, raising his voice.
“Ah… Y-yes,” Chloe replied, acting surprised.
“I’ve been asking what’s on your mind that you’ve been silent like this,” Samuel repeated once again. He was getting frustrated with his boss’s behavior.
But before Chloe could answer her assistant’s question, an office boy suddenly arrived and handed her a package containing food.
The woman was initially confused because she didn’t remember ordering food for lunch. However, after reading the greeting card on top of the box, she realized who sent the package.
“If he keeps treating me like this, I might truly fall in love with Edward,” Chloe said with teary eyes.
Indeed, she felt touched by the food package that Edward sent. She wondered how he knew her favorite dishes, as she never told him before.
“You know it yourself, Sam…” Chloe continued. “… I never received such thoughtful gifts before.”
Instead of sharing the sentiment, Samuel laughed. “Instead of holding back, why don’t you just reciprocate Edward’s love? As time goes by, I feel like he’s a good match for you.”
Chloe sighed loudly. It was easy for Samuel to say that she should return Edward’s affection.
“If only Edward wasn’t the one responsible for Nathalie’s death, maybe it wouldn’t be an issue to return his love,” Chloe said. “Everyone knows how rich and handsome Edward is. He’s even skilled at charming women.”
Samuel furrowed his brow. “What do you mean, ma’am?”
“Well…,” Chloe nodded. “Just so you know, he’s taken advantage of me several times this week. If I hadn’t started taking contraception pills, as you suggested before, I might be pregnant by now.”
Samuel smirked with meaning. Little did his boss know that he and Edward had conspired to make her pregnant. Samuel couldn’t wait for that moment to come true.
Meanwhile, in a different location, Edward was engaged in a serious conversation with Hans in his office. He had just shared the information about Aunt Sisilia, who knew the whereabouts of Chloe’s birth mother.
“So, have you arranged a schedule to meet her?” Hans asked to confirm.
Edward nodded. “Aunt Sisilia promised to meet me this weekend. However, strangely, she forbade me from telling Chloe about all of this. I don’t know why.”
“But, speaking of Nathalie…” Hans changed the topic of their conversation. He took some files from his bag and handed them to Edward. “… you should read the preliminary investigation results that I’ve done.”
Edward accepted the files Hans handed him and started reading and understanding the contents.
“So, Nathalie was known to live with a man before she died?”
Hans nodded. “According to statements from neighbors, she had been living with a man for a long time. Whether he was a boyfriend, husband, or just a regular date, no one knew for sure. Oddly enough, nobody knew the identity or face of the man.”
“What? How could they know Nathalie was living with a man but not know what he looked like?”
“Well, it does sound strange. One of the neighbors testified that the man who lived with Nathalie was often seen coming and going. However, on every occasion, he wore a face mask, making it difficult to recognize his appearance.”
Edward sighed in frustration. It seemed like every case related to Chloe was so complicated to solve. Why did he get involved in such complex matters?
“Whatever it is, I hope you can find some clarity, Hans. And don’t forget to search until you find Nathalie’s diary. Maybe, it’s the only thing that can prove that I’m not the man Chloe has been referring to all this time.”
“I’ll do my best, Ed. In the next few days, I’ll send you updates on the progress of this case.” Hans stood up from his chair. Shortly after, he chose to bid farewell.
A few minutes after Hans left, another man showed up without permission. Edward was not in the mood to welcome him.
“Damian, what are you doing here again? Your presence is not welcome at all.”
Damian smiled widely, not bothered by Edward’s sarcasm. He even pulled a chair and deliberately took a seat right across from his cousin.
“Nothing. Just wanted to visit my future office.”
Edward laughed in his sitting position. “Don’t dream too much. Until the end of time, you won’t be able to have Quantum.”
“Who says I can’t have Quantum?” Damian asked. “I just need to wait for the right time. And when that time comes, I assure you that you’ll suffer, Ed.”
Laughter echoed from Edward’s lips. He enjoyed engaging with Damian, who was so obsessed with taking over the power he held.
“Okay. I’ll wait for those moments. The moments when you make me suffer, as you said.”
Damian smiled cynically. Before leaving, he gave Edward a warning. “Don’t be too proud. Just so you know, there are many people close to you who are helping me achieve my dream. I hope you won’t be surprised later when you find out they’re all on my side.”
Edward remained motionless, choosing to ignore the warning. But after Damian left, he couldn’t help but wonder who the person Damian meant was. Was it Chloe? Or was there someone else supporting his accursed cousin?
