CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
DAYS LATER
ASHER’S POV
These past days have been nothing but hell for me. I have never felt so miserable and useless in my entire life.
Alpha Adolph keeps send threats and reminders about the marriage everyday. Freya has dedicated her life to making Astrid’s and my life miserable in this castle.
I can see everything going down the hill, but there seems to be nothing I can do.
Yesterday I almost died when I saw Freya giving Astrid her dirty laundry to do. It was so difficult to watch and I wish there was something I could do.
But there has to be something.
There just has to be something that can be done.
This cannot be the end.
This can honestly not be the end.
“Alpha Asher” a voice calls and I raise my head to see who it is.
It’s Kane, my beta. I summoned him here so we can talk about this issue like leaders.
“You are here” I was so lost in thought that I didn’t even hear him come in.
“Yeah, I knocked for quite sometime, but no response came so I decided to invite myself in”
“I see… please sit down” I offer and he makes himself comfortable on the seat opposite mine.
“You sounded really worried, is everything alright?”
“Nothing is alright Kane. Everything seems to be going down the hill for me, for us, for this entire pack. Adolph and his family are making my life miserable!”
“Is it about the dagger”
“Yes, it is about the dagger! That is the only thing that could bring that tyrant down, but now, he has it in his possession. The witch has decided to not to help us out, what exactly do we do? How do we fight a battle we had no idea how it came about or how it has to be fought?”
“Alpha, I understand the reason for your frustration, this is definitely an ugly situation, but you can’t give up”
” I’m not giving up, Kane. I can’t give up on myself, I can’t give on my people, I can’t give up on Astrid! I need to find a way out. But right now, the only person that can help me out is not willing to do so, she keeps talking in parables”
“Do you mean the witch?”
“Yes, I mean the witch. Rowan and Arya were there a few days ago, but she didn’t tell them anything relevant. Nothing relevant at all!”
“Well, maybe she doesn’t want to disclose important stuff to them. Remember you are the Alpha and if any vital information about this issue has to be given out, it has to be to you and to no one else” He explains and I give him a hard look with creased brows
“Are you saying, maybe she wants me to go there myself”
“Yeah, something like that. I mean, this cannot be the end right? Alpha Adolph cannot win. There has to be a way the moon goddess has set for us to be able to overcome this challenge. The witch must obviously know that way, so you need to go there and find out from her”
Two heads are indeed better that one.
All this while, I have been mad at the witch for talking coded language, but I have never reasoned that maybe she wants to talk to me in person.
I have to go there myself.
“Then, let’s be on our way”
“Yes Alpha” We both rise up from our seats and exit my office.
It’s going to be along walk up that mountain, but I believe it’s going to be worth it.
Before leaving, I mindlink Arya and Rowan to place a keen eyes on Freya once I’m gone.
The last thing I want is for her to cause a scandal while I’m away.
After several hours of climbing and stumbling, we finally get yo the old, rusty gate that encloses the old magical cottage. I turn to look at Kane and I burst into laughter when I see him breathing so hard!
“Why…”
breathes hard.
“Why didn’t we…”
Exhales heavily.
“Why didn’t we just come here in our wolf form?” He asks almost out of breath.
“Well, she seems to be terrified of wolves, so she prefers we come here in human form.”
“Why did she choose to live in such a place, how does she even leave this place of hers.”
“She’s a witch Kane, she can suddenly vanish into thin air and appear wherever she wants”
“Oh… I see”
“Yeah” I say as I give him a gentle pat on the shoulder and lead the way to the gate. When I get there, I gently push it open and we both step in.
The beautiful garden around the cottage makes me smile. As we both walk across the beautifully cut lawn to the door, I can’t help but admire the variety of beautiful flowers in the garden. She must really love gardening.
“She lives here?” Kane asks in shock as he looks at the old cottage. I chuckle as I turn to face him.
“Don’t be decieved Kane, this is just a camouflage. It’s a whole mansion in there”
“How is that possible? This place looks like crap”
“She reads minds buddy and trust me you would want to change those thoughts of yours before getting in there, else you’ll fly all the way out here with just a wave of her hand” I caution and I can see him swallow dryly.
I chuckle and turn back to the door. As I’m about to raise my hand up and knock, the door immediately flies open, causing both Kane and I to tremble and take a step backwards.
“I don’t think I like this witch”
“I don’t like you either” the witch’s voice speaks from nowhere and I laugh hard when I see the horrified expression on Kane’s face.
“Let’s go in bro”
“She’s going to bewitch me for saying that, isn’t she?” He asks frightened.
“No… just come in”
“Are you sure!” He asks acted and I hold him by the hand and drag him into the living room.
As we both get it, the door closes behind us and I see Kane’s mouth drop when he sees how magnificent the house looks within.
“This is pure witchcraft!” He exclaims in awe. “I mean… how… how is this possible? Out there looks so crappy, but…”
“It’s pure witchcraft like you said, Beta Kane” The witch concludes and we both look at her.
She is gracefully seated on one of the couches in the sitting area, looking gorgeous as always and the smile on her face tells me she just read my thoughts.
I smile back at her and urge Kane to stop gaping around and take a seat.
“I can bet on life that you know why I’m here and I will be very grateful if you’d just tell me what I need to know” I say once I’m seated on the couch.
“So, what brings the Beta and Alpha of the almighty Crystal Moon pack to my humble home”bSge still asks anyway.
“There is nothing humble about this home” I hear Kane mumble and I nudge him with my elbow to stop.
The last thing I want is for this witch to get mad and set my ass on fire.
“Well, I can bet my life that you know why I’m here, so if grateful if you can just tell me what I need to know”
“I can see the confusion and frustration in your eyes young alpha”
“I’m glad you can see it, so please, I need you to help me out. I really need to get out of this situation soonest”
“I’m sorry I can’t tell you what you want to hear right now”
“What do you mean by that?”
“What I mean is, it’s not yet time for you to know what has to be done” She repeats the statement and I look at her like she has lost her mind.
What does she mean by now is not the time for me to know how to handle this situation?
The dagger of purity is with the tyrant.
I’m being forced to marry his daughter.
I’m very close to losing the woman I love.
My subjects live in fear because I get to take orders from the tyrant.
With all this bad things happening, when then is the time for me to know how to end this?
“So you mean, after everything I’ve gone through and I’m still going through, it still not time for me to know how to solve this issue? That I still need to suffer some more? Is that what you mean?”
“The Moon goddess has her ways, Young Alpha. When the time is right, she will permit me to tell you everything”
“So, until then, I just need to keep suffering?”
“This is not suffering?”
“It is! It is okay. Me living with a woman I don’t love is suffering! Me living in fear is suffering! What did I do to deserve all this? Why is all this happening in my reign? Why is it so hard for me to find happiness?” I ask in frustration, but she just sits there and looks at me like I’ve lost my damn mind.
“Like I said, when the times comes, you will be directed on what you, for now, you just need to go home and keep following the orders given to you by Adolph”
“You know what?” I say as I rise up from the couch. ” I don’t care if you turn me into a potato after this, but I just have to say it. Fuck you!” I say in rage as I barge out of the living room, hoping that I don’t turn into a potato indeed.
Like… what they are doing is so unfair.
There is actually a solution to all this problems, but they wouldn’t tell me.
What sorcery is this?
