CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
ASTRID’S POV
Drama.
If there’s one thing I do not like to encounter, it has to be unnecessary drama.
All what happened last night at the dining was nothing but drama that was uncalled for. If only Alpha Asher had just let me stay in my room and have my dinner as always, that fight would not have occurred and I wouldn’t be walking around scared right now.
Yes, I feel so scared about what Freya is going to do to get back at me. One time at the Black Wood pack, a guest Alpha had defended me against her and she made sure her father had me locked up in the darkest silver prison for a whole week without food or water.
I only survived because an old maid who used to like me always snuggled in with food and water every evening so I can eat and drink. Since that day, I learned my lesson and resorted to serving and taking any kind of treatment from her without complaining.
I know in here, she cannot order for me to be locked up in a dungeon because she doesn’t have the power to do so yet, but she can do other mean things I do not want to say.
Freya really isn’t kind at all and that is one of the reasons why I’m so scared to get on her bad side.
After she left the dining last night, Alpha Asher insisted we all ate without her. At first I was reluctant to eat, but Arya and Rowan changed the entire atmosphere and my mind with their numerous jokes and hilarious past experiences. I laughed so hard that I forgot there had been a fight earlier.
One thing I noticed was the way Alpha Asher kept looking at me. Our eyes met every time I turned to look at him and he never seemed to want to break the eye contact. The butterflies that kept rising in my stomach was unbearable and my heart beat so fast that I was scared it was going to hope out of my chest.
I don’t know how much longer this crush I have for him is going to last, but I hope it’s not going to be for long.
This morning, before I came to the field to practice, he came into my bedroom to give me another set of training clothes and wish me a nice day here at the field. I blushed from my bedroom all the way to the field.
His gestures toward me these days gives me the chills, but I know I had better not get used to it, because he certainly doesn’t feel the same way I do for him. He is engaged to Freya and soon, they are gonna get married. I had better stop having this little fantasies in my head if I don’t want to get hurt.
“Alright everyone, I’m letting you girls have a short break for ten-minutes, we will ride on after that” Rowan announces and leaves the field. I tiredly lie on the grass, spread my arms and feet wide apart and taking in the fresh breeze that’s blowing.
We have been running in the woods all morning in our wolf forms, trying to take Rowan down to no avail. He is extremely fast and too strong for any of us, I wonder if I will ever become as strong as Alpha Asher wants me to be.
I haven’t even mentioned how fascinated the others were when they first saw my big snow white wolf. Even Rowan was and he made me run harder than everyone else, because I’m an Alpha and I need to worker harder than the others.
“Astrid” I hear a group of girls call and when I open my eyes to look, I quickly shut them close again when the violent rays of the sun shoot into them, causing them to hurt. With my eyes still closed, I manage to rise up and sit on my butt. The girls lower themselves to the ground and sit around me and I can’t help but wonder why.
“Hi” I great with an unsure smile and they all grin at me, making the situation even more awkward. “Is there anything I can do for you?”
“Is it true that you are the rightful Alpha of the Black Wood pack?” One of blonde girls asks in a low tune while hiding her lips with her hand and I chuckle.
“Uh, yeah. My father was Alpha Tarlishi. He was murdered by Alpha Adolph”
“Oh my God! That is mean”
“I hate that girl called Freya, if Alpha Asher marries her, I swear I will leave this pack” the Brunette girl swears with a firm tone and I just look at her quietly.
“And where would you go to If you leave?”
“Just any where else, but here. I would rather die than have that uncultured whore rule over me”
“Leila!” I caution as I look around. “That’s the Alpha’s fiancé you are talking about. You could get into trouble.”
“I doubt if he even loves her. I have never seen them do any activity together. She is always indoors while Alpha Asher busies himself with Pack business” Leila adds and I can’t help but smile.
She is the chatty type.
“Leila, that is none of our business and it’ll be good if we do not concern ourselves with it.” I explain and she smiles.
“I wish Alpha Asher marries you instead, you are so nice”
I swear I almost choke on my saliva and without uttering another word, I rise up from my spot and walk far away from them before I go mad.
First, they risk my life by involving me in their gossip about how mean Freya is and now, she just said the most absurd thing that can ever happen.
I don’t think I can take anymore of their crap.
ASHER’S POV
I was walking over to the Agricultural department office when I saw Astrid and the other girls in the field and decided to stop and admire her for a bit.
Rowan mind linked me a while ago, totally freaked out about how beautiful and large her wolf is and I couldn’t stop myself from going to see it myself. That same moment, I dashed straight to the woods where I shapeshifted and spied on them as they trained hard.
I actually got jealous of Rowan because he got to enjoy all that fascinating sight for a whole lot of hours.
Everything about Astrid is intriguing, everything about her makes me more attracted to her and I’m not sure for how long I’m going to keep hiding my feelings from her.
“Look who is spying on the love of his life” A voice, which I recognize to be Arya’s speaks from my side and I smile, but I don’t turn to look.
“What are you doing here Arya, you are supposed to be training with the shewolves”
“Duh! there’s something called “break” okay, we are on break”
“I see”
“So, your latest hobby is spying on Astrid, isn’t it?”
“I was just passing” I try to deny it as I start walking away.
“I saw you!”
“Arya, just leave me the hell alone”
“You know you can’t keep hiding it forever, right?”
“Arya, please don’t start”
“Admit it Asher, it’s eating you up inside, you have to do something”
“Like what exactly? Look, there is still a tyrant Alpha to defeat, the beautiful witch keeps talking in parables and the dagger is right in father’s study, but I have idea what has to be used for. So many clues, but they aren’t adding up to anything. As it is now things are already very jinxed up. Let’s not even mention the fact that I now share a bedroom with a mad woman. It’s all complicated already and the last thing I want us for things to get messed up. I don’t want to drag Astrid into all this”
“I’m… sorry, I… I… didn’t mean to get too pushy. I just want you to be happy that’s all”
“Arya, I will be happy, but for now, I need to figure out what exactly is going on so I can deal with it. The time will come when I will confess my feelings to Astrid, I am very sure of that” I assure her and she nods her head.
“I’ll just go back to my post. See you around” She leaves and I continue my journey to the Agricultural department office, feeling guilty for being too harsh on her.
She is my sister and I know she loves me very much, she is only trying to look out for me, I didn’t have to take out my anger and frustration on her. I need to apologize.
As I walk across the field, I look around for any sign of Astrid, but she seems to have disappeared all of a sudden.
A wave of disappointment washes through me as I walk on. It would have been nice to see her face one time so I will have something to smile about for the rest of the day.
I can’t wait for evening to come, so I would go into her bedroom and have a little chit-chat with her.
She is such a charmer!
