Dorothy had been unconscious for two straight days. She was barely up for two hours before she was sent to the operating room for emergency treatment. Every minute and second was crucial for her survival.
Germaine waited outside at the door of the operating room. She anxiously paced back and forth.
She sighed. Dory was extremely weak, yet she still worried about Belle and Credence. If this continued, how was her unborn child going to survive?
When she came back to her senses, she immediately snorted. She told herself not to think about such things.
She was currently worried about Dorothy’s safety and didn’t dare leave her, but she was also concerned about Belle, who was back at the ward. She had been sleeping for even longer periods now. Throughout the entire morning, she had only eaten half a bowl of porridge for breakfast before falling asleep again. She hadn’t woken up since.
As for Credence, she didn’t know about his current situation.
So many troubling situations, and all at once. How troublesome!
When Juelz and Jonathan rushed over together, Dorothy was still in the operating room and the lights were still on.
Juelz glanced at Germaine coldly, his eyes red. “Germaine, what’s going on? Didn’t I tell you to take care of Belle? Didn’t I tell you to not leave her side and to prevent Dorothy from seeing her? Her body is so weak that she’d fall from being blown by the wind, she can’t bear anymore pain. Do you want her to die in front of us?”
“Juelz, I wasn’t there at the time.”
Germaine quickly blinked her tears away and spoke in a hoarse voice, “I watched Belle for nearly ten whole hours today. I thought she would be hungry after sleeping for so long, so I went to buy some dinner for her. Who knew that Dorothy would sneak into the room like that…”
Seeing how upset Germaine was, Juelz couldn’t scold her anymore. He looked at Jonathan with his blood-red eyes and said angrily, “Mr. Stanton, haven’t you been searching for a bone marrow donor for Belle? How is that going? Have you found one? Do you have any good news?”
Even though Credence was undergoing surgery right now, whether he lived or died was up to fate.
If anything else happened to Belle, then how was Dorothy going to continue living?
“I’ve been working hard for such a long time, I’m f*cking anxious too, but it’s hard to find a matching bone marrow. It took me a lot of effort to find just one, and that maniac Melanie killed her. What could I do about that? I’m desperate too!”
Jonathan spread his hands in frustration. He frowned and closed his eyes bitterly. Suddenly, he remembered something Marvin had told him before. He immediately opened his eyes and turned to look at Germaine expectantly. “Hey, Miss Germaine, are you familiar with Jeremy? Weren’t you very close to him?”
Germaine glared at him. “Why would you mention him at a time like this?”
“Here’s the thing.” Jonathan licked his pale lips and said, “That pervert once said that Credence would definitely kneel down to him for Belle’s life. From the way he said that, it might mean that he has a way of saving Belle’s life. No, I guess he must know someone who is a match with Belle’s bone marrow. So, Miss Germaine, can you go to Jeremy and get that information from him? I will agree to any conditions that he might have.”
Juelz didn’t expect Jeremy to come up with such a cunning plan. He suddenly turned around, both he and Jonathan’s expectant gazes fell on Germaine. He suppressed his voice and asked, “Germaine, are you willing to go to Jeremy once more? For Dory and Belle?”
Seeing how stiff Germaine’s face was, Juelz felt a dull pain in his heart. “I know I’m asking you to do the one thing you hate the most, but I… I really don’t have any other option!”
Jonathan supported him. “There is no other way. So long as there is a glimmer of hope, we wouldn’t ask you to deal with Jeremy, that inhumane b*stard.”
Germaine stood planted on the spot, her face was pale. Her hands that were hanging at her side clenched into fists. Her sharp fingernails dug deeply into the muscles of her palm, and blood oozed out, but she didn’t feel any pain.
Her cold and clear gaze slowly swept over Juelz and Jonathan’s faces. Then it landed on the flashing indicator lights, she finally agreed. “Okay, I’ll go see him now.”
Juelz was right, no matter how much she hated Jeremy, she still needed to face him for Dory and Belle.
This man who she used to love so deeply had long formed a deep scar in her heart, it was a long and ugly one.
Only by facing him head-on could she fully recover from her scars.
…
As soon as she walked out of the hospital, Germaine bumped into Yezoo and Ysabelle, who were rushing in.
“Uncle, are you here to see Dory? She is in quite a complicated situation right now. You can go directly to the second floor. Juelz is there. I have something to do. Please excuse me.”
Germaine forced a smile and only greeted Yezoo. She didn’t look at Ysabelle. She held a black leather bag in her hand and was about to step into her car, but Yezoo whispered, “Germaine, you can’t leave the hospital. Tell me, where are you going? Is it really that urgent?”
Yezoo’s words were so gentle that it almost made her cry.
However, she did not want to show any weakness in front of Ysabelle. She took a deep breath and said, “I’m going out to see a friend. I will come back to the hospital once I’m done.”
Yezoo leaned back against his wheelchair and looked up at Germaine, who looked pale. His eyes were deep as he said, “Okay, go ahead then. I won’t keep you.”
“Okay.”
Germaine nodded in puzzlement for a moment. After that, she turned around and got into a taxi, and promptly left.
Ysabelle stared at the taxi and frowned gloomily. “Yezoo, I have a feeling that she’s going to see Jeremy.”
“What’s wrong with that?” Yezoo waved his hand as though he didn’t care. “You’re overthinking it and troubling yourself! If Germaine and Jeremy really end up together, I won’t object. After all, his indecisive character makes it difficult for women to like him. Besides, I am very clear about Germaine. She’s brilliant. A perfect match for Jeremy’s harsh personality. It’s a good match.”
Ysabelle was left speechless by Yezoo. She could only hold her breath and ask softly, “Didn’t you come to the hospital to see your daughter? Let’s not talk about Jeremy anymore.”
Yezoo turned around to look at her. When he thought of Dorothy, who had just gone back into the operating room after being brought out not too long ago, his eyes darkened and he remained silent.
A few minutes later, Ysabelle pushed Yezoo, who was sitting in his wheelchair, to the door of the emergency room. He stared at the closed doors. Even though she didn’t care much for her daughter who had suddenly sprouted out of nowhere, she still felt uncomfortable in her heart.
The hearts of a mother and a daughter are forever bonded, it would never part.
But when she thought of asking Dorothy to do the thing she had in mind for the future, Ysabelle pursed her lips. Her face slowly turned stiff.
Yezoo pushed the wheelchair towards Juelz and Jonathan and whispered to them. He carefully inquired about Dorothy’s condition. He also asked about Credence and Belle.
Juelz remembered that Yezoo had a heart condition. In order to not aggravate him, Juelz kept the story short and spared him the gruesome details. Instead, he explained their conditions rather vaguely.
Yezoo didn’t blame him for being so vague. He only sighed and said, “This is all my fault. My Dory has suffered so much since she was a young girl.”
Dorothy’s operation continued. It went on from 6:30 p. m. to 10:30 p. m.
This was a sleepless night for everyone.
Especially Germaine. When she spotted the familiar-looking stranger in the room, the only thought she had was that his laughter was so harsh that her eardrums hurt. Her pupils turned red, too.
