Inside the ward.
Dorothy hadn’t fully woken up from her coma yet. The cramp in her abdomen was getting seriously painful. More importantly, she hadn’t eaten or had anything to drink for nearly 24 hours. Her stomach was empty and she was very hungry, which led to her entire body twitching uncontrollably.
Her stomachache was also affecting the baby in her womb. While the baby was usually quiet, now it was flailing and kicking about in Dorothy’s belly. The pain she felt made her groan hard.
“Oof…”
She hadn’t opened her eyes and her entire face was covered in sweat. It was soaked all over her forehead and scalp, strands of hair stuck onto her face, and it made her pale face look even more so.
“Honey, does your stomach hurt?”
Credence immediately brought his head down and reached out to massage the sides of her abdomen. He didn’t massage her too rough or too lightly, but just right.
It was probably because the baby felt some comfort from his father nearby that it eventually stopped kicking, and Dorothy relaxed. She slowly opened her eyes, and suddenly, spotted a familiar and handsome outline firmly on her chest. She was scared, and her eyes had turned red. “Credence, what are you doing? Let go of me, let me go. Stop touching me. Go away, get away right now!”
When she saw that he wasn’t responding to her and continued to massage her belly, her eyes turned even redder as she stared at him. She could not suppress the pain and sorrow she felt, it was written over her face, “Credence, I am very upset right now. Go away. Can’t you leave me alone? You’re the last person I want to see right now!”
She screamed out that last sentence with all her strength.
She knew that the baby in her womb wasn’t a match for Belle’s bone marrow. This was fate, she had no way of dealing with it, no one did. It had nothing to do with Credence.
However, she only felt pain in her heart, and she really wanted to vent all her pain and sorrow on him so that he could get a taste of the despair and sadness she felt.
She would even think about it involuntarily. If only Credence hadn’t forced her to divorce him back when he was cold towards her and watched her get thrown into prison while doing nothing to stop it. Perhaps Belle would not have gone into premature labor, and she would never have gotten this damned disease.
Everything happened because of him! It was all his fault!
She despised him!
He did not expect her to be so determined to drive him away the moment she woke up. Credence was shocked. He was stunned for quite a while before slowly coming to his senses. His thin lips moved with great difficulty. “Honey, what did you just say?”
He could not believe his ears. Everything she said was absolutely true.
Ever since she fell unconscious, he did nothing but worry about her. He was anxious about her and couldn’t sleep at all. He wished that he could stay with her, 24 hours a day. Even though she had countless female doctors and nurses and Germaine taking turns to look after her, he couldn’t be sure. He insisted on caring for her alone. He fed her water, wiped her face, washed her body and changed her clothes. In the end, the only thing he heard from her was “You’re the last person I want to see!”.
At that very moment, when faced with Dorothy, who had been suffering for more than 20 hours, Credence forced a bitter smile. Finally, he understood a little bit of the pain he had inflicted on her from all those years.
He hadn’t personally experienced such gut-wrenching pain before. He thought he would never be able to feel the stabbing pain that he personally inflicted on her. He would never be able to know how much pain she had been in!
Now, he finally knew just how much pain she suffered.
Credence deeply looked at her pale face. He choked from sobbing, and the guilt in his heart grew more intense. However, he also knew that all the worries occupying her heart stemmed from finding a suitable bone marrow for Belle.
He took a deep breath and slowly withdrew his hands from her belly. He stared solemnly at her and spoke hoarsely, “Baby, there is one thing I have to tell you, I must apologize to you! I made a mistake when I searched for your parents before. In fact, I’ve found your real parents.”
Sure enough, Dorothy focused on his words.
She stopped wondering why this man was still leaning on her bed. She frowned, her pale lips trembled as she asked hoarsely, “Credence, are you telling me that Leilani isn’t my biological mother?”
“No, she isn’t! But she is related to your biological mother.”
Credence pursed his lips and pondered for a few seconds. He didn’t tell her the truth. Instead, he softly asked, “They are waiting outside. Do you want to see them now?”
“Are you telling the truth?” Dorothy was dumbfounded. A thought quickly flashed in her mind, and her breathing quickened. “Credence, my biological parents are all here. Does that mean Belle can be saved?”
“About that… I can’t guarantee anything, I will need to do a comprehensive assessment before we can know for sure. But now that you have three more relatives, I’m sure one of them is a suitable match.”
“Three relatives? Does that mean that Belle still has a chance?”
Dorothy was excited and hopeful. She blushed, and her breathing grew faster. She then stretched her hand out and clutched Credence’s arm tightly. Some of her nails dug into his flesh due to her tight grip.
She noticed that he was a lot shorter than usual. He was sitting in a wheelchair, and his legs were bandaged. She had no idea what had happened to him while she was unconscious.
But at this moment, Dorothy was completely focused on Belle. She ignored Credence’s injuries and continued to tug on him relentlessly. She stared at the half-closed door and muttered, “Credence, let them in! Bring them in! We have to save her! Tell them to save Belle’s life!”
Her excitement reminded her of her belly. She was so hungry that her stomach was on the verge of withering away. It began to throb again, the pain caused her to inhale a breath of cold air. She withdrew her hand and placed it on her stomach. She closed her eyes in pain. “Ouch! It hurts! Credence, my stomach hurts so much!”
“Baby, don’t be afraid. I’m here. I will always be here.”
Credence frowned upon seeing how unwell she was. He quickly raised his long arms and jammed the bell button above the hospital bed.
