Chapter 429 Don’t Be Afraid, It’s Me

When Credence wheeled himself back to the ward on his wheelchair, he had already calmed down. He was calmer than still water.
Even the bloodshot redness in his eyes gradually dissipated.
To him, it didn’t matter if he was in a complicated situation, nothing was more important than Dorothy and Belle.
After all, they were the ones he truly loved the most in his life.
Apart from compromising, what else could he do?
Besides, the ones who should atone for their sins were Ysabelle and his father, who accidentally killed his mother. It had nothing to do with Dorothy.
She couldn’t choose her parents, neither could he, she was the most innocent one out of everybody.
Credence lied to himself over and over again, and his pain slowly eased. He clutched Dorothy’s hand in silence and held it firmly in his palm. A trace of irrepressible pain slipped across the corners of his eyes as he murmured in a soft voice, “Honey, I know very well that the actions of the previous generation have nothing to do with you. I don’t blame you. So please wake up, stop tormenting me!”
As soon as he said that, Dorothy’s finger, which was in his blind spot, trembled slightly.
When Jonathan walked in with Belle, Belle heard some beeping sounds. She quickly let go of Jonathan’s hand and ran to Dorothy’s side. Her big beautiful blue eyes looked around. Finally, she locked her gaze on an instrument that was monitoring Dorothy’s blood pressure and heartbeat.
“Ah, Daddy, there was a red line just now, and it suddenly jumped up really high. Why?” Belle stood on her tiptoes and pointed to the display screen of the instrument.
Jonathan reacted faster than Credence. He quickly ran over and glanced at the screen. The lines were moving about, and he was flustered, “Credence, is Dorothy about to wake up?”
“Mr. Jonathan, is my mommy really going to wake up?” Belle raised her head and her eyes were red. “Mommy has been asleep for a very long time… I want Mommy to wake up and read comics with me.”
“Yes, your mommy will definitely wake up soon.”
Jonathan had simply answered Belle. Just as he was about to ask Credence if Ysabelle and Yezoo’s blood test reports had been released yet, he suddenly saw Credence lifting the thin white quilt that was covering Dorothy. He stared at her round belly. “Jonathan, something’s wrong. Go and get a doctor right now.”
“Oh, sure, okay.”
Jonathan was flustered. He immediately pressed the alarm bell next to the bed. When the bell rang out, the doctors were alerted and would arrive soon.
Credence, who was by the bed, almost stood up from his wheelchair. He was on the verge of standing up, but the pain in his bones stopped him. Soon, his blood slowly seeped out from the white plaster bandages and slowly dripped to the floor.
He hadn’t realized it was happening, as he was numb from the pain. All his attention was focused on Dorothy’s belly, his mind was in a mess.
“Honey, how are you? What’s wrong?”
Because he was so worried and nervous, his body was tightly pressed against the top of the bed. His fingers gently touched Dorothy’s bulging belly as he tried to give her a gentle massage just like how he did before.
After massaging her for a few minutes, Credence stopped looking at her belly. Dorothy’s slender fingers, which were stiff from her being unconscious for over twenty hours, suddenly curled up slightly and moved towards her bulging stomach very slowly…
He lowered his head and was looking down. As he was busy massaging Dorothy, Belle suddenly shouted in surprise, “Hey? Daddy, look, I think I see Mommy’s hand moving, her hand, mommy’s right hand… it’s really moving!”
Jonathan held his breath, as he fixed his eyes on Dorothy’s right hand. Sure enough, her palm had slowly moved towards her stomach.
“D*mn it, Credence, in my many years of clinical experience, I can see that Dorothy is finally going to wake up!”
Credence’s entire body was shaking violently, and his face stopped moving.
He closed his eyes and opened them again. He was in complete shock. He managed to ask in disbelief, “Jonathan, what did you say? Are you telling me, she’s about to wake up?”
“Yes, it’s true, I wouldn’t lie to you about this!”
Jonathan smiled. He noticed that Credence was still in a daze. He quickly squeezed over and carefully helped him up back to his wheelchair. He bent down and stretched out a slender finger to poke at Credence’s bleeding feet. He sighed and said, “Credence, I think, this time, you’ve pushed yourself too far. You’ve been defeated by Dorothy, and you can’t be saved anymore.”
He would give up his own legs just to focus on Dorothy. Before, Credence would never do anything like that.
But now, he had really done it. He had reached the point where Dorothy was the only thing he cared about. He completely forgot that his legs were still seriously injured. If he wasn’t careful enough, his legs might really break to the point of no return.
“I admit it, I’ve fallen for her.”
Credence exhaled as he spoke softly. His long and narrow eyes were firmly fixed on Dorothy’s extremely thin but beautiful hand, he looked at it carefully.
With his wild, beating heart, he stared at her hand without blinking. He used all the patience he had accumulated over the past 30 years to stare at her.
However, after waiting for ten seconds, he still couldn’t see Dorothy’s fingers move, not even a bit. His deep eyes turned darker.
At that moment, Belle raised her head and screamed in surprise, “Daddy, I saw Mommy’s eyes moving, not just one, but both of her eyes were blinking.”
Credence quickly turned around and stared at Dorothy’s eyelids. They were moving slightly. His throat suddenly became sore and swollen.
This time, he saw it clearly, he saw them very clearly jitter.
Dorothy’s eyelids were trembling, and her long and curled eyelashes were fluttering softly.
Credence’s heart began throbbing wildly, it felt like a violent storm in his chest.
He took a deep breath and had an irrepressible look of joy on his face. He fixed his soft eyes on Dorothy’s and whispered into her ear, “Honey, you’re awake, aren’t you? Don’t be afraid, it’s me, your husband. I’ve always been by your side. As long as you need me, I will always be there!”
Credence patiently repeated those words over and over again in her ears. He continuously called her name, over and over again, not once feeling annoyed.
After a long, long time, Dorothy’s body suddenly started shaking violently. Her closed eyelids slowly trembled.
Her movements were subtle, but Credence saw everything. It was incomparably clear.
His eyes teared up. He said in a hoarse voice, “Honey, open your eyes and look at me! Belle and I, as well as the baby in your womb, are all by your side, we are with you and protecting you!”
But before he could go on, a series of heavy footsteps came from the corridor outside, it broke the peaceful atmosphere in the ward.
Upon hearing the cold, frosty laughs of the men outside, Credence’s body turned stiff!
Everyone had come!
