Chapter 420 Torment

In the VIP ward, the lights from the chandelier were dim. Credence had ordered Marvin to adjust the lights before leaving.
He did it to ensure Dorothy was as comfortable as possible while she rested.
The way he looked at it, Dorothy must be completely exhausted, she had been enduring so much pain for so long. Which was why she collapsed right after hearing the bad news from the test results.
She was spent and miserable. She wasn’t willing to wake up and open her eyes because she couldn’t accept such a disappointing reality.
In all those years they were divorced, she was only able to keep things together because she had Belle.
She endured so many grievances and was even willing to put aside all her resentments. All because she wanted to save Belle’s life.
However, the bigger her expectations, the more painful the disappointment.
She could not accept the fact that her only hope of saving Belle was shattered. Therefore, she would rather stay in bed instead of waking up.
But if she continued to sleep and refused to wake up, it was very likely she would never wake up ever again.
“Wake up, honey. Please stop sleeping!”
Credence moved his wheelchair to Dorothy’s bedside and gently stroke her pale face. His heart ached to see her like this.
She looked so much more haggard than before. Her chin was sharp and her lips were soft. They looked like dried petals, devoid of moisture and luster. Her skin looked like it was covered in a layer of ice.
She lost an exorbitant amount of weight in less than a day.
“Honey, I miss you! I wish you could talk to me, you can scold me as much as you want!”
The room was deathly quiet, only Credence’s deep voice could be heard. He was constantly calling Dorothy’s name. His voice was getting hoarse, it was painful and heavy. He felt like he had a frog stuck in his throat.
He had no idea how long he kept talking. It wasn’t until his voice became terribly hoarse and painful that he stopped. He then picked up her health chart the attending physician left by her tableside. He leaned towards her earlobes and spoke softly. “Honey, the child in your womb is 17 weeks old now. Among the nine categories on the test, only two were below the required standard. That would be the weight and heartbeat rate of the baby. The doctor said that as long as you wake up and slowly regain your strength, our child will be fine.”
“But if you continue to sleep, your child… our child may not make it.”
“Honey, you love Belle so much, and you love the child in your womb as well. You don’t want anything to happen to them, do you?”
“As long as you wake up, honey, as long as you wake up, I promise you that Belle will be fine, our children will be fine.”
But even after saying everything that was on his mind, Dorothy was still lying quietly on the hospital bed, completely motionless.
Credence stayed by her side for five whole hours, but Dorothy still didn’t wake up.
After they left the hospital, Jonathan and Marvin waited for a long time but didn’t hear anything from Credence. They guessed that Dorothy’s condition hadn’t improved, so they quickly rushed back to the hospital with doctors and fresh food.
The doctor changed Credence’s bandages. As for the food, they bought food for Credence and Belle. They also brought some for Juelz and Germaine as well.
Jonathan was an expert when it came to doing favors for people, that’s why he helped Credence.
Juelz’s ward was on the fifth floor, and Dorothy’s ward was arranged to be on the sixth. Clearly, Credence was the one who arranged it this way.
Even though Juelz was a shareholder of the hospital, he couldn’t do anything about Credence’s far-reaching influence.
After all, there was a huge gap between them in terms of influence, and it had been this way since the beginning.
Jonathan entered the room holding a takeout box. He noticed that Juelz had already woken up. He leaned against the bed and looked immaculate. As he saw Jonathan walk in, he had a look of concern in his eyes. “Has Dory woken up?”
“She hasn’t.”
Jonathan shook his head and sighed. “I don’t know what to do. Credence is still with her. He’s been talking to her for five hours now, but nothing has changed.”
Juelz clenched his fists, and his face darkened. “If Dory can’t wake up even with Credence calling her, then who could?”
Hearing that Dorothy had been in the operating room for such a long time, Germaine felt worried, and her fingers began to tremble. “She hasn’t woken up yet? Why don’t I take Belle over? She’s the most important person to Dory.”
Jonathan and Juelz agreed to her suggestion.
Since no one objected to it, Germaine took a deep breath. “Alright, let’s do it. When Belle is feeling better, I’ll take her to the sixth floor.”
She turned around and headed for the door.
Belle was still in the ICU. She was being injected with all kinds of liquid supplements. She would be done in another half an hour.
When it was done, she would take her to see Dorothy.
Mothers and daughters had a special connection.
Perhaps, once she heard Belle’s heartfelt cries, she would wake up.
Jonathan shook the big bag of food in his hand and stopped Germaine in her tracks. “Wait, it’s almost eleven o’clock. You and Juelz haven’t had dinner yet, right? Have something to eat first.”
Germaine immediately turned back and gave Jonathan a weird look. “Screw you, I’m not eating your junk food. Dory is still unconscious, I don’t feel like eating.”
After getting ridiculed like that, Jonathan could only curse in frustration. “F*ck.”
He came to understand that Germaine would scold him for every little thing. It was obvious that she was just getting revenge for Juelz since he had greatly aggravated him.

On the sixth floor, inside the VIP ward.
Marvin motioned for Chris to wait outside the corridor. He entered alone and saw Credence sitting in the wheelchair. His face was terribly pale, and his gaze was fixed on Dorothy. She was still unconscious on the hospital bed. He ignored the two people who came in and remained motionless.
He was really committed to Dorothy.
Marvin walked over to Credence’s side. “Credence, your legs are still seriously injured. You do know that if you want a swift recovery, you need to regularly apply your medication and change the wrappings?”
“My legs aren’t the biggest problem right now. Right now, the most important thing is for Dorothy to wake up.”
“Do you think Dorothy will be happy to see you as a cripple when she wakes up? Or is this your play, to act miserable in front of her? She’s straddling a fine line, if she continues to see you like this, I am afraid that plan will backfire.”
Marvin stared at his ashen face, he was worried at what he saw. “Credence, I think the most important thing right now is finding a match for Belle’s bone marrow. If she wakes up and asks you about it, how are you going to answer her?”
Credence was stunned for a moment. His deep and painful gaze gradually turned tenacious. “Give me some time, I’ll definitely find it, I will find it!”
Suddenly, a raucous stomping could be heard from outside the room. It was getting closer.
“I thought I ordered the entire floor to be quiet?”
Credence frowned as he slowly turned around. He looked at the chandelier hanging over the corridor. The light was a little bright, but his eyes focused on it on reflex. For a moment, his vision was blurry and he couldn’t see very well.
He could vaguely make out a small figure in yellow pajamas approaching. She was running while shouting. “Mommy! Daddy! I’m here to see you! Heehee, did you miss me?”
Credence’s entire body stiffened on the wheelchair, an intense pain slowly coursed through his burning and tormented heart!
