Chapter 411 Hazy Mist

Book:My Husband Hates Me Published:2024-5-1

Jeremy was a man who had committed numerous crimes. Naturally, Dorothy didn’t trust him.
She sighed and continued, “Credence, this is very important to me. Can you get someone to look into it?”
She fixed her eyes on Credence. She hoped that he could immediately clear her doubts about Jeremy.
“There is no need to investigate this at all.”
Credence was a wise man. He had quickly figured out several key points. He slowly shook his head and said, “According to my sources, it is impossible for you and Jeremy to be related.”
Dorothy was flustered for a moment. “Why? Are your sources reliable? Jeremy stood right in front of Juelz and Germaine as he told me. He practically pointed his finger at me and told me that I was his cousin.”
Credence pondered about this for a moment, then looked at Dorothy. He was careful to speak slowly and clearly. “You can’t be cousins because Leilani might not be your real mother.”
That sentence greatly impacted Dorothy.
She already had her doubts about Leilani. When she almost had a miscarriage, Leilani did come to visit her. But she never asked how she was or seemed to care about her at all. All she did was ask her not to blame Credence for it. She even said that Dorothy was being too capricious.
Credence nearly killed her unborn child. Was she wrong if she wasn’t willing to forgive him?
If it weren’t for the paternity test which confirmed their relationship by blood, Dorothy was convinced she was much more likely to be Credence’s mother.
It was around this time that Dorothy had a hunch that she wasn’t Leilani’s biological daughter. That would explain how heartless she was towards her. She only wanted her to be with Credence so that she could continue enjoying the benefits of their relationship.
After all, not long after their family reunion, Leilani received a lot of gifts from Credence. She received a house worth several millions of dollars, a luxury car, as well as a disgusting amount of jewelry and cash.
With such a lucrative opportunity, Leilani wanted to get even more from Credence. So, why would she care about her when she wasn’t ever her daughter in the first place?
She never expected much from Leilani, so when she heard the news, she wasn’t very disappointed.
But she clenched her fingers and she put on a serious face. “If she isn’t my mother, then who is? Credence, you personally instructed Jonathan to carry out the paternity test. I doubt he’d hand you a fake result!”
She figured she could discover her real identity after Leilani showed up. Who could have guessed something like this would happen? Now she was more lost than ever.
“Don’t worry too much about this. Take care of yourself and leave the rest to me!” Credence had a calm look on his face.
He recalled that Leilani had personally handed Benjamin her hair.
This proved that even if Leilani and Dorothy weren’t blood-related, Leilani had to know who Dorothy’s actual mother was.
Also when Dorothy needed blood but when the hospital was running short, they had to call Leilani in. However, Leilani wasn’t the only one to arrive, she’d brought along Ysabelle with her, and Ysabelle was Jeremy’s mother.
Could it be…
An idea popped up in Credence’s mind.
If his estimations were correct, then the connection between Dorothy and Jeremy wasn’t something as simple as just being cousins.
Credence was so shocked by the thought that his entire body went stiff. The urge to find the truth subsided, he hoped that he wouldn’t find out too soon.
Having missed out on ten years of marriage with Dorothy, their relationship had finally improved, and they were getting closer. He did not want to be on her bad side again.
After a moment of silence, Credence squinted and carefully observed Dorothy. He noticed that she wasn’t denying his earlier statement. He slowly let out a sigh of relief.
If she had asked him to investigate her background right away, he wouldn’t have an excuse to refuse.
Since Dorothy needed his help, she agreed to let Credence stay in the ward opposite of hers.
Upon hearing this, Belle was overjoyed.
As for Juelz, he became extremely gloomy. He thought it through and then told Dorothy that he had some urgent matters to attend to at the company and then hastily took off.
His body swayed about limply and he walked aimlessly, as though he had lost his mind and soul.
Dorothy’s mind, on the other hand, was completely focused on her own hazy world. She was completely unaware of the sadness and loss in Juelz’s voice as he left.
However, even if she did notice it, there was nothing she could do about it.
Germaine, on the other hand, was very straightforward. She gave Dorothy a look which meant that she should take care of herself, then left.
When Dorothy was resting on the bed, Belle was laughing happily. She kept running into Credence’s ward and then back to hers repeatedly. She was so happy that she danced with joy.
“Mommy, Daddy wants me to tell you that he will come over for dinner tonight.”
Belle grinned and leaned on Dorothy. She pouted and said, “Mommy, I haven’t eaten any hamburgers, sandwiches, or roasted chicken drumsticks in such a long time. I wanna eat some! Daddy promised he’d order all of them for me. Mommy, can I, can I?”
She was such a little devil. She knew her mother would never make that promise, so she quietly went to Credence and asked him first.
He wasn’t as strict as Dorothy. She was rational and calm towards her daughter, but Credence must have felt guilty, so he agreed to all of her requests.
He was the good cop, and she had to be the bad cop.
How mean!
After venting at Credence for a while, Dorothy looked at her daughter and calmly shook her head. “No! We can have dinner together, but you can’t have hamburgers. Once you’re gotten better, I promise I’ll definitely let you eat all the hamburgers you want, okay?”
Hearing her say those words, Belle who was slightly disappointed, suddenly perked up. She stretched out her small hands and pointed at Dorothy’s belly. “Mommy, I think my little brother has gotten bigger. When he comes out, I’m going to take him out to eat french fries and fried chicken. I’ll even share Daddy with him.”
Dorothy was touched by how sweet her daughter was. She bent her thin eyebrows and asked. “Why do you want to share your Daddy with him?”
As her stomach grew larger, Belle would often talk about her soon-to-born brother. She initially kept referring to the baby as her baby sister from time to time.
However, over time, Belle decided to refer to the baby as her little brother. Soon, Dorothy stopped correcting her.
As long as the baby could save Belle’s life, she did not care too much about the baby’s gender. She would let nature take its course.
“That’s because Daddy also has to play with me!”
Dorothy didn’t expect such a simple reason. Her smile deepened. “That’s right, Belle, you are correct!”
In the other ward, Credence was sitting on the bed, leaned against the wall. He had his computer on and was working on some documents. He was waiting for Benjamin to bring over a sumptuous dinner from a nearby restaurant.
Hearing Dorothy and Germaine’s laughter from time to time, he felt a warm sensation in his heart. An unprecedented sense of satisfaction surged through his blood vessels. He felt happy.
At this very moment, no amount of money or fame would ever be as precious as Belle and Dorothy’s joyful laughter.
He was such a fool. Only now did he realize how important Dorothy was to him. When he heard her laugh, it felt like he had the entire world in his hands.
For a brief moment Credence, considered getting out of bed and running over to accompany them.
However, he quickly dismissed the idea with what little reasoning he had left.
He had to keep the act up. He was still pretending to be suffering from some very serious injuries after all. If he suddenly walked over to them looking fine and lively, all his efforts would be in vain. Not to mention Dorothy would really hate him for it.
Credence pinched his forehead and told himself to calm down.
“Mr. Scott, I’ve brought everything you asked for.”
Benjamin pushed the door open, with several bags in his hands. He suddenly caught a glimpse of Credence’s misty-looking eyes and felt as though he was mistaken for someone else.
Did Mr. Scott mistake him for someone else?
Benjamin didn’t think he looked like Dorothy at all.
Credence narrowed his dark eyes. “Put it aside. That will be all for now.”
Benjamin realized that he was just being a nuisance to him right now.
“Understood, Mr. Scott.”
He bowed and promptly left. His lips were still slightly trembling.
