Dorothy took a closer look, and she found out that it was a young man who was about 25 or 26 years old. He looked handsome and somewhat familiar, however, she did not know where she had met him before.
She vigilantly pulled Belle close to her, her face darkening. “Who are you?”
“Hello, Miss Fisher, I’m Mr. Juelz Sherman’s assistant, Sontha Lanes. We’ve met a few times. Do you still remember me?”
Sontha had a pair of gold wire-rimmed glasses on, and he spoke politely. He gave off a good impression.
When Dorothy heard him introduce himself, she immediately recalled having heard Juelz mention him before. Juelz had said that he was young, but he was good at what he did.
It was just that while she was working for Juelz, though she was supposed to be his secretary, she hadn’t really done anything and didn’t really remember any of her colleagues.
“Hello, Mr. Lanes. What can I do for you?”
“Miss Fisher, Mr. Sherman is seriously injured, and he is being treated in this hospital too. Do you know about this matter?”
Sontha raised his hand and adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. At the same time, he concealed the flash in his eyes.
“You are telling me that Juelz is in this hospital as well?” Dorothy was very surprised.
Not long ago, Credence had told her about Juelz getting injured while protecting Belle from Rosalie’s men, but he hadn’t mentioned that Juelz was here.
At this moment, hearing that Juelz was here, Dorothy was taken aback first, then she was delighted. She said, “Can you tell me where Juelz is?”
Belle blinked and piped up, “Yay! Mommy, I want to go see Daddy Juelz.”
“Miss Fisher, Belle, please come with me.”
Sontha smiled. Then something occurred to him and his face fell. “Miss Fisher, it’s been a few days since Mr. Sherman was admitted here, and I heard from him that Belle was here as well. I wanted to visit her on his behalf.”
“However, the building that you and Belle were in was surrounded by guards. I was chased away the moment I got close, and I couldn’t get in at all.”
“Because of this, Mr. Sherman is not in a good mood, as such, he is recovering very slowly.”
“Miss Fisher, please forgive me for saying more. Mr. Sherman cares about Belle, but he cares about you even more. If you can visit Mr. Sherman and go talk to him more often, I am sure he will recover faster.”
Dorothy knew that Credence had arranged the bodyguards for their safety.
Hence, she smiled with some embarrassment and said, “Sure, I have something to tell Juelz as well. Let’s go.”
There would definitely be the marks left on her heart after certain things had happened.
However, if she did not speak out and let those complex emotions stay in her heart, the deep friendship that they had for so many years would start to fall apart.
Dorothy did not want to see their friendship break apart at all.
If she didn’t have Juelz’s protection after being released from jail and getting divorced with Credence, she and Belle wouldn’t have made it here, and she definitely wouldn’t be pregnant again.
Her gratitude towards Juelz was immeasurable.
Sontha led the way, and Dorothy followed him, holding Belle. They took twists and turns, finally arriving at a deserted building. It was quiet everywhere.
Dorothy had been at the hospital for a period of time, but she didn’t know that there was such a building here. She was taken aback.
This place was quite far from the building which Belle’s ward was at.
Why did Credence bring Juelz to such a remote building?
Sontha seemed to know what was on her mind. He turned around and smiled. “Miss Fisher, Mr. Scott specially arranged this for Mr. Sherman. The air is fresh and the environment is quiet. He probably doesn’t want Miss Fisher to meet him either.”
There was a deeper meaning to his words.
Dorothy was in daze, as she shook her head helplessly. She did not know how to refute.
With Credence’s domineering character, this was indeed something he would do.
This small building had a total of four floors.
Juelz’s ward was situated on the top floor. There were no elevators here, only steep stairs.
Sontha picked Belle up and spoke as they walked. “Miss Fisher, the doctor in charge of Mr. Sherman said that the reason why there are no elevators here is so that Mr. Sherman can take the stairs every day to help with his recovery.”
“However, Mr. Sherman is badly injured now, and he can’t stand yet. I think Mr. Sherman’s going to have to wait for some time before he can start using the stairs.”
Dorothy immediately understood that this was all part of Credence’s plan. His goal was to prevent Juelz and her from having too much contact with each other.
The phone she’d been using before this had gone missing when Hugo had kidnapped her. Credence had given her a new phone a few days ago, along with a new number, which she hadn’t had time to inform Juelz of yet.
If she didn’t call Juelz, then there’d be no way for him to reach her while he was still hospitalised…
Credence, the b*stard! He’d gone too far!
Dorothy walked to the fourth floor in silence and saw that there was only one ward with its lights turned on. No sound could be heard as well, as it was deathly silent.
Sontha bent down and carefully placed Belle in the corridor. After that, he stood up and smiled politely at Dorothy. “Miss Fisher, Mr. Sherman is inside.”
“Alright.”
Dorothy smiled back at him and rubbed Belle on the head. She led Belle into the ward.
Almost instantly, they could smell the strong smell of cigarette smoke coming from the ward, mixed in with the muffled sound of coughing.
Dorothy immediately frowned, and hurried into the ward with Belle.
Juelz laid on the bed, and he was wrapped in bandages from his neck to his feet. From a distance, he looked like he was in a cocoon.
He had a half-smoked cigarette in his fingers, his fifth of the day. His handsome face was fatigued and listless, and he had a frown on.
Even when he heard the door creak, he did not raise his head. He said calmly, “Sontha, don’t tell me that smoking is harmful to my health. I am not in a good mood. I can’t move, I can’t even die. Can’t you let me smoke a cigarette to relieve my boredom?”
“Juelz, it’s me!” Dorothy sighed.
At Juelz’s strange appearance, Belle cheekily said, “Daddy Juelz, you look like a cocoon!”
Juelz seemed to have been struck by lightning. He abruptly looked up, and when he saw Dorothy and Belle standing at the door, his breath hitched. “Dory, Belle, what are you two doing here?”
