Dorothy walked over, and her gaze swept over Juelz. She noticed that he looked haggard and crestfallen, and his shirt had specks of blood on it. Her heart jolted. “Juelz, did you get hurt as well?”
“Dory, I’m fine! These bloodstains are not mine, they’re all Germaine’s. She was tortured and suffered major injuries.”
Juelz realised that Dorothy was somewhat concerned for him. His heart warmed a little but he still felt bitter.
He did not expect her to care about his wellbeing even after he’d schemed against her. Her concern for him was still there.
She was such a kind and beautiful woman. How could he bear to let her go?
Dorothy did not know about these conflicting thoughts in Juelz’s mind. Her attention was all on Germaine.
After hearing that Germaine had been tortured, she immediately looked panicked and asked bluntly, “Jeremy did it, right?”
That sinister and evil man gave Dorothy gave off the aura of a ruthless man. He was someone who wanted to take control of the world.
Unexpectedly, he had hurt Germaine, the woman he deeply loved. Was he still human?
He must have gone insane.
The next second, Juelz answered her queries, “Dory, Jeremy’s sick. He has a very serious mental illness and has a tendency to abuse women. The louder a woman screams, the better he feels.”
After hearing this, Dorothy’s face paled in shock. Her first thought was that Jeremy was indeed insane. He was someone that loved to torture people.
Occasionally, when she watched TV shows, she would see how some men found joy in terrorising other people. Every time these men broke down, they would have an urge to torture a woman to the point of death.
Dorothy’s heart ached in her chest. She frowned and looked towards the door of the operating room and asked in worry, “Then, how is Germaine?”
At the mention of Germaine, Juelz’s face steeled, and rage burned in his eyes. He wanted nothing more than to rip Jeremy to pieces. “Jeremy whipped her with a whip covered in spikes. She has wounds everywhere.”
“Apart from that, she’s endured too much emotionally. She couldn’t cope with what happened so now she has developed some psychological problems.”
Dorothy did not expect something like this to happen to Germaine. She had only been going to see Jeremy for her and Credence’s sake, yet she almost lost her life along the way. All sorts of emotions welled up in her heart, and she did not know what to say for a while.
Back when she fell into Talco River and was saved by Jeremy, the first thing she saw when she woke up was Jeremy’s impassive face. She could tell that he was a cold and evil man at that moment. A fierce aura surrounded him, and he seemed like a difficult person to get along with.
Now, not only did he seem like a tough person to get along with, it could be said that he was as cruel as a demon.
Even so, Germaine loved him so much. She had loved him ever since she was a child. How could he bear to torture a woman who loved him so deeply? Was there still any humanity left inside of him?
In conclusion, all of this happened to Germaine because of her.
Dorothy felt guilty and upset. She clenched the thin strap of her leather bag with her fingers and said brokenly, “Juelz, Jeremy is a vicious man with evil intentions. Not only does he want to destroy Scott Group, he even wants to destroy Credence’s life. You’ve known him for so many years. Do you know why he hates Credence so much?”
Upon hearing this, a look of sadness flashed across Juelz’s eyes.
So, even after all of this, in Dorothy’s heart, Credence was still the most important person to her. No one else could replace him.
However, it was solely because of how persistent and affectionate Dorothy was towards everyone that made him fall In love with her.
Juelz blinked his eyes quickly to hide the fondness in his eyes. His heart felt like it was being pierced by needles. He looked up at Dorothy and shook his head. “When my uncle remarried, his new wife brought Jeremy with her. Though his surname is Sherman, he never stayed in the Sherman family home when my grandfather was in power. He stayed in a separate house that my uncle bought.”
“Jeremy was always an eccentric and cold-tempered person. Ever since he was a child, he never liked talking to people. You know how I was, I was lively and energetic. I could not get along with him, so I rarely got into contact with him.”
“Soon, many things happened in the Sherman family. My parents’ death was indirectly caused by him, and I almost died by his hand as well.”
“So, I really don’t know why he hates Credence so much, to the point of wanting to kill him.”
“I see.”
Dorothy paused for a moment before continuing, “Juelz, I will wait for Germaine here. You should go back and change your clothes, you will feel more comfortable afterwards.”
Juelz wanted to stay with her for a little while longer. He thought it would be good enough to just sit with her silently, even if they didn’t speak to each other at all. Standing at a distance of less than half a meter away from her was still better than nothing.
However, it was obvious that she was still cautious around him because of that incident. She kept it in her heart and unconsciously backed away from him. She was reluctant to be with him.
Her body language had betrayed her truest thoughts. It was all too hard for him to accept.
Since she had suggested that, Juelz could not refuse her. He could only nod and said, “Alright then, I will head back first. Call me if you need anything.”
“Sure.”
Dorothy casually replied and turned around. She stared at the door of the operating room with clear eyes.
Juelz sighed sadly and turned to leave. He’d just reached the elevator when he turned back and called out, “Dory, Jeremy promised Germaine that he’d return all the Scott Group shares that he has. Don’t worry, I’m sure Scott Group will end up just fine.”
After hearing the word ‘shares’, Dorothy turned towards Juelz. Her voice was soft and full of guilt. “Juelz, this is all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Germaine would not have been tortured so badly.”
“How can you blame yourself for that?”
Juelz rubbed his face hard and smiled bitterly. “Dory, even if it hadn’t happened today, something like this was bound to happen between Germaine and Jeremy sooner or later.”
“Jeremy’s a monstrous man who has walked the path to hell for the longest time, and she was a woman with a personality that was as bright as the sun. They’re like night and day, completely different from each other. How could a relationship between the both of them work?”
“Either the darkness would consume the light, or the light would outshine the darkness. There was no way they would be able to get along.”
As Dorothy listened to it, she felt really upset. She sighed, but didn’t say anything else.
After Juelz left, Dorothy continued to wait for around forty minutes before the door to the emergency room opened.
